I'm a southern cook with a TON of cookbooks (three 6' tall shelves full!) but when I saw this one come across NetGalley, I knew I needed to check it out. Unfortunately my busy schedule didn't allow me to actually test any of the recipes but there are so many delicious looking ones in here that I'm buying a copy of the book so that I can add it to my groaning shelves! The beef bourguignon alone makes my mouth water and I can't wait to dive into several of the other dishes as well. As someone who likes to cook for others, I can see this book becoming a frequent "go to" when I need a dish to share. Thanks NetGalley for adding to my cookbook shelf once again!

I enjoyed this Southern cookbook from Elizabeth Heiskell which is filled with recipes from her successful catering business. The recipes in the book are grouped into sections titled: game day, beach day, cheat day, diet, party, etc. It is beautifully illustrated throughout. The recipes are not complicated and the author provides a lot of helpful tips and uses both seasonal ingredients as well as convenience items, such as canned soup. There are delicious new twists on old favorites like blueberry-peach cobbler and other tasty desserts such as lemon sparklers and pots de crème. There are also a few easy slow cooker recipes that I marked - there can never be too many ways to make chicken! I enjoyed her anecdotes about the recipes - like her children asking if she was going to make the "good chicken" for dinner. In all, an enjoyable book with yummy recipes that are easy to prepare.

I ended up buying the cookbook because the version I was sent didn’t work for me. I love cookbooks. I have an obsession for them apparently. However, I haven’t cooked any from this book yet.
Mainly because there are a lot of recipes want ‘cream of’ whatever soup. Which I can’t stand. It alters the smell and flavor of everything for me. I enjoyed her stories and the photographs though. I’m glad to have this in my collection

There is a lovely selection of recipes that I look forward to trying.
A great collection of southern recipes that are a nice change from what I've seen before.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is a wonderfully put together cookbook filled with warm recipes that will keep you coming back for more and a look into the authors life. I'm from the south so I always love finding new recipes for the foods I already love. There can never be to many ways to make a favorite and I found several new to me recipes throughout the book. I also enjoyed that the author included tips, those are always useful to the home cook. As I said I'm from the south, Georgia to be in fact, so the first recipe I tried was the Peach and Blueberry Cobbler. I have my own blueberry plant so I love the chance to use them and who doesn't love peaches. The recipe was easy to follow and different from my own so it gave a chance to use ingredients I love in a different way. I've marked several more recipes that are must try for me and I can't wait for cooler weather to try them.

Super fun cookbook obviously written with her fans in mind. This isn't just a cookbook but a little foray into the authors life. With that said there are some solid recipes sprinkled within these pages that are sure to be long standing favorites.

The author offers lots of different recipes. I liked the author's other book What Should I bring better. I feel that I would not make as many of the recipes offered in this book.

I really liked this cookbook. I wasn’t so I’d like the way the chapters were divided (by occasion instead of ingredient), but it ended up being helpful. I found some great seafood recipes I’ve made several times.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

With beautiful pictures and very interesting food, this cookbook is a must have for anyone thinking of taking a deep dive into southern cooking. Or really just anyone who wants to try something new.

Full of colourful backgrounds on each of the recipes, this book was a joy to check out, and I'm sure a ton of people I would know would enjoy trying some of the food out. Things that really stuck out to me were chocolate pots de crème, fat lady soup, egg roll in a bowl, spaghetti pie, and a drink simply called blue boy. I'm not a huge fan of gin, but with an entire container of blackberries in there, I just might change my mind! I can't wait to make some of these for myself.

If you're looking for a home style cookbook to add to your collection, than this might just be something you want to check out next! I loved the stories attached to each recipe, and I'm sure you will too. Definitely check it out if you get a chance.

Just so you know, I am an avid cookbook collector with a moderate level of cooking skill. I thought there was a nice array of recipes (most with a picture!) and that they would be perfect for a wide variety of serving occasions. I felt a lot of laidback, downhome charm from the recipes themselves, so don't expect big and complicated. I think that this cookbook is best suited for cooks of a moderate level and people who want to keep things simple and low fuss in the kitchen but still want to have something tasty. There are some recipes included that require convenience ingredients such as cream soups or ranch dressing or gravy mix. Some cooks just actively dislike this and cooks based in other countries might find it challenge to get these ingredients at all but for those who have health issues this can be a huge concern, so if you fall into any of these categories, you will want to take that into consideration before buying this book. While, I very much enjoyed the recipes, I have to say that I found the author off-putting at best and in the end not someone I felt was likable. She was privileged and posh and she new it and she made sure that you knew it to. Add to that a few instances where things got surprisingly tone-deaf and in one particular case totally offensive and you end up with a mixed bag of feelings. In the end I'd rate the recipes four stars and the author two stars and average it out to a solid three star rating as a whole. This is my frank, freely posted review.

Just when I thought I couldn't possibly add another cookbook to my mix, along comes Elizabeth and her beautiful collection. Divided into nine sections, the book's recipes are organized into "game day, beach day, cheat day, diet, party, etc." Featuring standbys from her successful catering business and time spent growing up in the Mississippi Delta, Elizabeth offers the home cook a range of tried and true recipes. Favorites of THIS cook include Chocolate Cobbler (I didn't know there was such a thing!), Lemon Sparklers, and Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings. And, just in time to shed some of those Covid pounds, Fat Lady Soup to get my eating back on track!

Some of my fondest food-related memories are when I would go over to a friend's place and we would all get together in the kitchen and put together a meal. It may have been slapdash and I may have had to run out to get another baguette at times, but they were real moments of coming together. I got the same vibe from Heiskell's 'Come On Over!'. I really enjoyed that rather than splitting the book into sections per course it was organized by what kind of day you might be having. Is it a party? You're covered! School day or Cheat day? You're also good! And one day I'll be confident enough to make her Chicken Divine ;)

Come on Over! by Elizabeth Heiskell is a fun cookbook that is well organized. Its receipes are not fussy and the ingredients are easily obtained at your local grocery store. One caveat: if you are a completely from scratch cook, this may not be the cookbook for you, but for those that don't mind a shortcut here and there, I highly recommend that you check out Come on Over!

Very nice book. Nice set of recipes, although I prefer more dinners and less desserts, but that is just my personal preference. At first, I was not crazy about the commentary and not feeling much connection to the author, but she grew on me and this ended up being almost the best part! Beautiful pictures, I just would have loved a picture for EVERY recipe. Again, just me. All in all, nice cookbook. I think this would make a fun gift for foodie friends.

Thank you to #NetGalley, Elizabeth Heiskell and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for this ARC.
