Definitely filled with southern charm and hospitality, but for me the intros and asides were the best part of this cookbook. The recipes didn’t grab me overall. Others may love this book, it just want to my taste.

This cookbook is enjoyable and has recipes great for family and/or friends. I bought several copies for our library system and it already has some holds!

Come on Over! Is filled with wonderful recipes. I enjoyed the photographs that go with the recipes. It makes the book more enjoyable to flip through. It is a nice edition to any Southern cook’s library.

I read (browsed?) this coolbook as soon as I was approved... months ago. Since then I've switched devices and don't have an accessible copy, but I can't remember that anything specific stands out. I remember bookmarking a few recipes, and thinking the southern charm was definitely infused throughout, but in a market where everyone seems to be releasing a cookbook, it didn't stand out as one of a kind (although I will acknowledge that it's one of a kind by merit of the author's own reflections - her stories are hers alone.) My thanks for the approval and opportunity.

What a delightful book. The photographs are beautiful. There are not only photos of the various dishes, but lifestyle photographs of the author and her family and their mealtimes.
The recipes are all relatively easy and I found myself commenting at regular intervals, "Oooh, I want to make this." Some of the ingredients may be a bit harder to come by not being in the USA but I'm sure Google will offer up suitable alternatives for this South African.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me the chance to read this book.

This is a nice Southern focused cookbook. Recipes for all types of food are divided into chapters on weekdays, party days, Delta days (Mississippi), summer days, beach days, game days, school days, diet days, and cheat days. As expected in a Southern book, many of the recipes include seafood, and there are lots of desserts. Full color photos are included for most but not all of the recipes.

In the spirit of southern love and hospitality, Come On Over!, by Elizabeth Heiskell brings fresh choices of delightful recipes to share with your dearest neighbors, ,friends and loved ones. It has a variety of red for easy to prepare casseroles and sides sure to be appreciated by many.

Come On Over! Or not... Though I'm sure that Elizabeth is popular in her own kitchen, unfortunately the recipes shared here just missed the mark for me. I don't know whether it was the tacky cover, poor layout of the book, or repetitive content that failed to set this cook book apart from the rest.

I love cookbooks! I like cookbooks that aren't a lot of fluff, they are good quality and have a wide collection of foods that I would really make. This cookbook is great! I wish the publishers the best of luck on the publication!
Thanks to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and NetGalley for the ARC.

This cookbook is all about making everyday food special. I loved the quote, "No one is coming to my table that is more important than me." Also, just because it's a Monday doesn't mean that you can't cook a nice dinner. I love that concept so much and it really drew me to this book. It's all in the prep. There are plenty of shortcuts in the box like using a boxed dessert to get you started. It encourages you to use what you have making easy substitutions. The book is broken down a bit differently than other cookbooks. The sections are Weekdays, Party Days, Delta Days, Summer Days, Beach Days, Game Days, School Days, DIet Days and Cheat Days. The book doesn't have many food pictures and I would have loved more. Overall, I thought it was a helpful cookbook, just not great.

I received and voluntarily read an e-ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thanks for the opportunity to review this cookbook. First, let me say that I'm not familiar with the author of this cookbook. I did a quick search to see if I was clueless (I usually am). Yet, it doesn't seem like I am in this instance. So, I judged the cookbook based not on the appeal of the person its written by, but more so what would make this one stand against a bigger name.

I think the strengths of this book in that context are 1) it is very nicely designed; 2) it has "normal" recipes with dishes I would like to make with things I am familiar with; 3) it looks like a high quality book worth its price (200+ pages, nice illustrations/design/full color photos.

One thing I don't usually like about cookbooks is all the fluff. You know what I mean... the personal stuff, the ten page backstory before the reicipe. However, this book got me thinking... cooking is a intimate and personal business. Why else would you want to share your cooking histories and influences with others? So, I thank the author for that. I still think that sometimes cookbooks / blogs go overboard with it, but in this instance i think the author struck a good balance between their personal content and food related content.

Good job! Nice book. Great luck with its publication.

This is a cookbook filled with a lot of southern recipes. I found several that I'd love to whip up. The photos were of a great quality. I would have preferred to see a recipe corresponding to each recipe, but I think this will make a nice quality hard cover cook book.

Y’all these are the recipes I grew up on! This is a great, easy, Southern cookbook. Each section has a variety of different recipes (including drinks and desserts in some sections). If y’all have never tried tomato pie, when tomatoes are at their peak, you are missing out. This cookbook has a great recipe for one you should try. Also I have been looking everywhere for a chocolate cobbler recipe and it’s in this book! I will be trying it this weekend!! I cannot recommend this book enough!

Let’s just start out by saying this is gorgeous!
I haven’t had a chance to make all the recipes but I LOVE that they’re all thinks that I would realistically eat. You know those books with all the recipes that are so gourmet that normal people don’t eat it??? Well this is NOT THAT! I barely made it through the breakfast pages the first time I opened it and I want it all! Yum!

This is a cookbook that has a spot on my shelf! Loved everything about it. And a must try on so many recipes I am gaining weight just thinking about it. Love the pictures of the food. The ideas and the chapters I just loved how the author and publisher put this book together! High marks on that!

This cookbook does a great job at including kid-friendly, adults-(probably)-only, and DIY to everyone’s own tastes. About half of the recipes have pictures. And each recipe has a blurb to introduce Ryan’s reasoning for including it. Many of the recipes also have notes at the end for substitutions and other tips. It’s a great cookbook to give as a gift to new families or more established families who may need some new staples.

Wonderful for the home cook though definitely not for those on a diet! The photos are gorgeous and the recipes are varied and doable.

I love to read cookbooks like novels. On more than one occasion, I have curled up with a cup of coffee, a new cookbook and a stack of post-its to tag the interesting recipes. So I'm always interested in one that has a good story along with it. I was intrigued to see the author had included so many personal anecdotes... but I never connected with her. I actually started skimming through her comments. The "Fat Lady Soup" for when you over-indulge maybe should have stayed an in-joke between friends, and the endless reminders of her money and privileged upbringing were just a bit cringe after a while. I was not familiar with Elizabeth Heiskell before reading this book, and despite her stories and reminiscences, we just didn't click.

That said, there were some interesting recipes I might try. They were fairly straight-forward and easy enough for the beginner-to-average home cook - nothing too complex here. Some were completely from scratch, and some included packaged ingredients, allowing for a quicker cooking process. There were plenty of attractive photos, which I always appreciate in a cookbook.

Thank you to NetGalley and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt fo providing me with an ARC in return for my honest opinion.

Fun recipes. Beautiful photography. Recipes are not too complicated. Would be good for a beginner looking for good party or potluck recipes.
