You and Me by Nicola Rayner is a psychological thriller that explores the dark side of friendship and obsession. The book follows the lives of two women, Alice and Kat, who met at a dance class and became inseparable.

Read this in one sitting on a cold miserable dsy in December. There are quite a few characters and you have to concentrate on who's who. The main character is a bit of a misfit and I had her pegged for all sorts of things along the way.
This left me guessing until the end. A definite 10/10

We follow the story of a woman in love with a man she can never have as she spends her mornings watching the sunrise alone while her love is inside with his wife. You and Me is a standalone psychological thriller written by Nicola Rayner. It was originally published on October 1st, 2020 by Avon Books UK. I was able to read this book by obtaining an Advance Review Copy (ARC) from the publisher on NetGalley.

Francesca, known to her friends as Frannie, is a loner, working at a local bookstore, and currently lives alone since her mother passed away and her sister and niece are always traveling, to the point where they never speak except for the occasional email exchange. Ever since she attended Chesterfield Boarding School, she has had a “crush” on Charles Fry, though the term is used very loosely, since her life and outside activities completely revolve him and his own work and outside activities.

However, her capability of being a loner and able to hide in the shadows goes out the window when one night as she is following Charles and his friend Dickie, she sees Dickie die in front of her eyes when he falls in front of the subway. But Frannie can’t help but wonder if her mind is playing tricks on her, since she could have sworn that she saw Dickie get pushed, but she can’t be sure since there was so many people on the platform. As a result of his death, Frannie is pulled back into the social circles of Chesterfield that she has tried to avoid since she left, but if it brings her closer to Charles, maybe this is actually a good thing?

Rayner has created very complex characters that are not so easy to read or figure out, which brings out even more suspense to the story. Frannie is not always the best narrator, but again, this adds more layers to the story, since of course it is not always told upright from the beginning. I could not have predicted the ending of the story as complex as it was, but it was not convoluted to the point where it was not believable, just shocking.

I would recommend this novel for all psychological thriller fans, and I will definitely be reading more books by Rayner in the future.

You and Me is a story full of twists and turns. Its a bit slow at the beginning, but picks up pace soon, and then doesn't let go until the ending. And what a surprise that was!

This was my first Nicola Rayner novel, but it won’t be my last! I definitely didn’t guess the ending, and I spent the entire novel wondering which characters could be trusted, if the narrator was reliable, and what the truth really was. This was a great suspenseful novel, and I look forward to more.

Fantastic read such an interesting plot. Weird characters but made it all the more enjoyable. Creepy at times. That definitely adds to the suspense of the book. Definitely worth a read

After a very slow start I got hooked on this suspenseful book. Great tension build up and turned in to a twisty thriller later in the book, but takes some perseverance to get to it.

This was a very good story about Fran who lives alone and works in a bookshop. Her mother is dead and she misses her sister and niece who live abroad. Fran is obsessed with Charles, an old school friend, who has his own family, who she likes to watch from afar. I thought it started slowly but it does start to pick up and the ending, wow, was totally unexpected. I never saw it coming. Very dramatic! I was totally gripped and read this book fairly quickly, A very good thriller!

Interesting concept and a little bit different. Not quite what I expected but well written and good characters.

I really enjoyed the writing style in this book. The twists and turns kept my attention throughout. I will definitely be checking out other books by this author and I would recommend this book to friends and family.

This book just wasn’t my cup of tea. The story didn’t really draw me in, so I got through it very slowly. The pace of the story was also too slow for me, sadly.
This surely can be a great book for lovers of suspense and slowly discovering things, but it wasn’t for me.

Patience with this one! While it might move a tad slowly at first, think of it as building the story that will build the tension that turns this into a twisty thriller. Fran, our unreliable narrator, is also unlikable in many ways but I felt sympathy for her as she's faced bad things at every turn. No spoilers from me. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.
