Have you ever wondered about astrology and all the different houses that they talk about and you have no idea what it means? This book will explain the astrological houses and how the sun and moon within them will reveal your life story! Sounds exciting, right? I loved every minute of it! I was completely into everything I was learning.

I'd say this is a book for someone just starting to be interested in astrology like me or even someone that is experienced in the subject matter.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading BEHIND THE HOROSCOPE. This book offers such wonderful insight on each sign and information i have no yet encountered.

A great book for anyone interested in expanding their knowledge of astrology. This book was very in depth and enjoyable.

Of course as a qualified astrologer myself, I had to snap up this book. I thank NetGalley for my free review copy. I am so glad I found it, I have bought a paperback. It really is wonderful, whether you are someone well versed in the science of astrology, or have no real knowledge at all.

Whether you're well versed in astrology or not, I found this book to be well written for the masses. So even if you don't have a qualification, or done any formal training it's written in simple terms that everyone can relate to. The book does cover and focus only on the importance of where a person's sun and moon are placed, within the houses of life, in their own birth chart. All twelve houses are covered and how this energy can resonate in a person's life. Keep this in mind, this is not a general book on astrology as there are eight other planets to consider, however the importance of the sun and moon in astrology is significant. So it's very clear why the author has placed her focus here.

The interpretation is detailed and I liked the fact that the author (who is an experienced astrologer), has based her book on research and her own work as an astrologer, from interpreting a high amount of individual birth charts of real people. This was a major selling point to me, this is not 'theory' this book is full of tried and tested interpretations, based on what she found with 'the masses' of people she worked with.

What also was really lovely is that I read the information on the placements for my own sun and moon, in my birth chart, my son's sun and moon. Was it accurate? Yes for me it was and made a lot of sense. The information I read on my son's chart I had already kind of concluded from studying his chart before myself, but not in as much detail as the author was able to offer. It was a beautiful reading experience! Overall I recommend this book as a book for anyone who has an interest in astrology, there are things to learn and consider here as you practice, when it comes to the importance of the sun and moon in a birth chart. For those who just have an interest in the topic, because of the ease of ability to read the subject matter, and as it's not over technical or 'sciencey' I recommend it. I can't wait for my copy to arrive, it will sit very proud on my bookshelf. Note that to gain the full benefit of the book, you will need a copy of your own birth chart or the charts of people you wish to understand, to locate areas in the individual charts. But you can always get your birth chart done for free from many online resources, if you don't pay an astrologer.

This book has an interesting concept that focuses on the house aspect of astrology and where your sun and moon sign rules and includes the different house systems. It provides good insight and is informative when trying to learn about the deeper aspects of astrology.

Interesting Take on Sun/Moon House Placement

Having been a student of astrology for over 40 years, whenever I see a book on the subject at one of my favorite book review sites, especially one that promises a new slant, I snap it up. The concept of this book, which takes a close look at the Sun and Moon in their houses, certainly intrigued me. It's clear that the author believes house placement is important. In the introduction, he states that the Sun is our sense of self and the source of our vitality, and its house is where we shine. The Moon’s house, he states, is our refuge, where emotions, instincts, and intuition reside. Having done charts for my family and ex-husband, I looked at their Sun and Moon house placement sections in the book. I found the author's couple-of-pages description of the Sun placements to be mostly accurate and gave good insights concerning the missions. Certainly, my own was food for thought. I found the couple-of-paragraphs sections on Moon placement less helpful. The brief description didn’t give me much insight or food for thought. The author writes in a friendly, easygoing, and at times humorous style. He stated in the introduction that he not only looked at traditional correspondences between houses and luminary placement, but he also studied the lives of people with these placements. It was fun to see that people as different as Alan Turing, Chris Evert, and Elvis Presley shared my solar house placement. I wish the section on the moon was better, but I appreciated a fresh look at the importance of houses for the luminaries.

I have always been interested in learning more about my horoscope. "Behind the Horoscope" by Wendell C. Perry is a thorough explanation of the meaning of the sun and moon signs in each of your houses. It is essential that you do find your complete natal chart, which you can find for free online, before hand to use this resource. This is an excellent guide for anyone who wants to delve deeper into your horoscope.

I have always been interested in Astrology. This is a good beginner book. I like how it encourages you to get a free copy of your natal chart right in the beginning of the book. I already have had several done. I really appreciated how the houses were broken down. I’ve always been confused when it comes to them. I’ll definitely be getting a physical copy to add to my reference book shelf.

And in-depth explanation of the horoscopes. This book would be recommended for anyone with a basic knowledge of horoscopes who is looking to build a more solid foundation.

This book was filled with fascinating information and at times it felt a little overwhelming.
I have not studied the horoscope in a long time and had hoped this would be a refresher, but it provided a lot more information than expected (that's a great thing). This will make a great reference book for future studies.

This isn't really a book for beginners. You will need to either find a copy of your birth chart online for free, or you will need to know what houses your sun and moon are in. But once you have that information, this is a very unique and insightful book. It tells you what your sun sign being is whichever house actually means, rather than information on what your sun sign is. Then you can take your sun sign and moon sign and put them together. So for example, you are not going to read about an Aries, you are going to read about a sun sign in the 10th house and then what a moon sign in a 2nd house means. Hence why you MUST either know your chart really well or be able to refer to it while reading this book. If you are looking for something new and unique, then this is a winner.

There’s a common disdain professional astrologers share with books that feature a “cookbook” format for quick and easy horoscope interpretation. These are the compendiums that feature all the possible combinations of say, planets, Signs, and horoscope Houses with short, general––and rarely accurate––meanings. Not so with this book! Mr. Perry offers rare insights and interpretations of Sun and Moon placements in the Houses of the horoscope based on timed birth charts. The meanings he offers convey a deep understanding of these placements that can certainly be attributed to considerable experience with clients and a thorough mastery of the astrological art. This is a unique reference that offers understanding and practical direction to those who consult its trove of wisdom.

The start of the book encourages you to get a free Natal chart from a suggested site such as Astrolabe and then use the more accurate birth chart for a more astrological reading within this book.

I enjoyed reading this book and found it different to normal astrological books about horoscopes which was a refreshing change.

In order to fully understand this book, the reader must have a chart. You can request it for free on some websites mentioned by the author, so there's no need to worry. You only need to know your date, time, and place of birth.

I already had mine, so I jumped directly to the meanings of the sun and the moon in each house, and combined with each other. It was a very interesting read! I could totally see myself being described in these words.

THE COVER OF THIS BOOK IS SO BEAUTIFUL. While nowhere near all-encompassing, Behind the Horoscope focuses on the Sun & Moon and their placements in your chart, essentially buffing up your standard horoscope reading. With that said, I enjoyed this book immensely. Perry evades the common and mundane ways of reading a horoscope, instead voicing that there is no single accurate system, and by using your intuition and knowledge of self you can divine your horoscope in a more personalized manner. Overall I feel that this is a great concept with an equally great attitude, and enjoyed the prose as well. A more detailed book on astrology that I highly recommend is How to Be an Astrologer by Constance Stellas .

I love learning about astrology; I have been studying it since I was a teen and I am always so excited to learn new information about the art. There are 12 signs in the zodiac, each being represented in your chart in by the twelve different houses. For example, your rising sign rules your first house and describes the way you present yourself to the world. Your sun sign, the zodiac sign you typically look for when reading your horoscope, describes your inner ego while your moon sign rules your feelings. From these components, an astrologer can develop a thumbnail sketch of your personality, and by knowing this hopefully you can improve your life. This book does a great job of introducing readers to the different meanings of the houses and signs, and showing us how we can use that knowledge to better our lives.

I read the book with some interest as I am a longtime student of astrology. I think the section which combined the placement of sun and moon by house was rather unique as books go (this is the first book I've seen do this, most do only individual placements and the few ones I've seen do a combination of placements have organized it by sign and not by house. ) Combinations always bring additional interest and something that makes the book stand out for those interested in astrology because it's rarely done and because the vast majority of people who like or study astrology nevertheless have great difficulty synthesizing their charts. So I applaud that feature.
However, I do have to say I found the interpretation of the sun placements to not resonate that much with my experience, owing to the fact that I didn't really agree on some of the house interpretations. Regardless, it's good to see unique content and I'm sure many astrology students and those interested in astrology will love to have a chance to make their own judgement. I thank the publisher for allowing me to review an advance copy of the book in exchange for a honest review.

As someone new to astrology, I found this book to give a nice comprehensive overview! I like how it was broken into three parts, each one building off the others. This is definitely a book I’ll be referencing many time over in the future. Thanks so much for the ARC!
