“Fake news” is definitely a term we’ve heard quite a bit over the last few years, to understate things just a little bit. But what is it exactly? Honestly, the term is now used so heavily as merely a knee-jerk response or an insult, it may be a pretty vague term for quite a few people.

So that is why I really liked what I found in “Won’t Get Fooled Again.” Using an array of different characters having discussions together in an equally varied set of contexts, this covers all the different aspects of what fake news is, why it’s a genuine problem, why it’s so furiously on the rise at present, and all that can actually be done about it. A rather complex topic is thus laid out quite clearly for anyone who wants to know more, making this book an effective teaching tool. To say the least, it’s definitely the kind of work I’d like to see widely-available in the collections of both school and public libraries (including the graphic novel section of this librarian’s very own workplace).

Simple and easy to digest compendium about fake news, the role of journalism and critical thinking. Using real examples will help to understand that the need to deal with this problem is urgent. Recommended for young adults and everyone who isn't media literate.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance copy of this book.
