I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The second installment in the American Royals series does not disappoint. It’s fast paced and engaging, and surprised me quite a few times. Beatrice and Samantha continue to be outstanding characters that embody everything a modern princess should be. The romantic musical chairs led to some odd pairings that I ended up really rooting for. The ending was not what I was expecting and does not really feel like the end of the story, so I’m really hoping there’s a third installment in the series announced soon!

Enjoyed this second book even more than the first one. Still a few plot points hanging for a third book.

review// And @katherinemcgee does it again! Ever since finishing #AmericanRoyals, I’ve been eagerly waiting this sequel - and thanks to @netgalley and @penguinrandomhouse for the e-ARC!
.
Things I Loved: New supporting characters that I’m hoping we see more of in another book. Strong female characters. All the pomp, circumstance, and licensed products that I’m sure would go into royal, American, wedding. Satisfying character growth.
.
At times, I was frustrated with characters who seemed to just go back and forth on a dime on who they liked, their thoughts and motivations - but it was written and developed in a believable way, so I don’t think it took anything away from the story. We see satisfying character development from many of the main characters, and, again, we are left with a major cliffhanger and my almost immediate desire to have another book in the series. Pre-order or add this to your library queue now - because I can guarantee this will be a popular read come September! {5/5 stars}

Rarely does a sequel meet the magic of the first book, but Majesty just isn't another sequel.
It might be even better than American Royals.
So much about the first book was in anticipation - of Bea ascending to the throne, of Sam and Jefferson finding their path, and of Daphne and Nina circling each other without with minimal contact.
Majesty is where all the action happens.
Bea is the uncoronated queen and finding herself and her voice, Sam is figuring out what it looks like to be the first-in-line, and Nina reclaims her life - or so she thinks.
And Daphne, the shit stirrer you. couldn't stand in the first book, proves the old adage that there's more than meets the eye.
The end of this book offers a little more closure than American Royals, but sets up the third story perfectly. I can't wait to see how McGee sums out this trilogy.

Katharine McGee has done it again! American Royals II is the absolute, most perfect follow up to the first book with twists, turns, and shake ups that I was never expecting. I was so thrilled to read this and see Katharine didn't follow the cookie-cutter model of events that I've come to expect as a reader. I've already pre-ordered my physical copy, and am PRAYING there's a third iteration of this amazing series.

Who wouldn’t love a young queen and watch her learning from the mistakes. After the death of the King, the Princess Beatrice is crowned as the First Queen of America!! She now has to decide her love interest to gain more acceptance towards the Crown. Filled with drama, love, romance and of course the familial dysfunction. Definitely a worthy sequel that lived upto my expectations!! If you loved American Royals, you’ll love Majesty.

Thank you NetGalley, Katherine McGee and Random House for the ARC.

I loved some things more than American Royals in this installment (BE👏🏻A👏🏻TRICE👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻) and others fell a little flatter for me (BOO and BYE, Jeff, you boring 👎🏻)

I loved where the story went (this truly is about Beatrice’s ascension to reigning monarch), though its pacing fell a little flat for me, and I didn’t really kick into high gear on this one until about 50% of the way through. I can’t where to see where McGee take this story next!

(Also, I should mention: my capacity for most things is entirely thrown off by the pandemic. So I like to give the disclaimer that my brain could be one reason that I found the pacing a little off, not the fault of the book.)

Thanks to Netgalley and Random House for the opportunity to read an early copy!

I loved this book! I always worry about book twos in a series, especially when I loved the first book. However, this book kept up the drama and character development from book one.
I highly recommend this book (read book one first) to fans of fun, fast reads with interesting characters and a fantastic premise.

Just as complex and satisfying as the first book. It really highlights the growth of the main characters. Perfect for fans of The Crown. I love the cover.

To be completely honest, I didn't even realize this was a sequel when I first requested it. So, I began reading the first book and devoured it in hours, and the same thing happened with this one. I love how messy the relationships are, all of the drama and intrigue reeled me in. It's honestly all that I wanted in a book about the drama of an American royal family. However, this book also held a certain depth to it that was interwoven with the lighthearted romance and public scandals. It dealt with topics of racism and sexism upfront and honestly. This was such a fun, fast-paced read, and I can't wait for book three!

This was a fun read. I do wish that there had been a bit more building of Beatrice & Teddy's relationship but perhaps that will come in Book 3.

As someone who grew up in the Meg Cabot, Princess Diaries era, I am always a sucker for a good YA book with royalty and the American Royals series lives up to those standards. I adored American Royals and when I saw I had the second book, Majesty, I knew I had to read it. I enjoyed this book even more than the first. As  Princess Beatrice rises up to become Queen, we see her grieve for the loss of her father, navigate through difficult political agendas and deal with a truly complicated relationship. Katharine McGee shows us the difficulties a strong woman faces when she is the leader in a male dominated field. I loved the way Bea handled herself in this situation and look forward to the day when we see more women in our society in leadership positions.

Sam's story arc was my favorite. She is so much more than the "party princess" that the world believes her to be. She still has fun and definitely gets into some interesting shenanigans. Will her love for Teddy cloud her judgement? Or will the new party prince catch her eye?

Daphne continues to be classic Daphne. She is still scheming and trying to win the love of Prince Jefferson. I am HERE for all of her scheming and "evil" plans. There were several side characters involved in her arc that put a few wrinkles into her plans.

Nina's arc was the most disappointing. I felt that she was more of a side character. While she tries to break away from the Royal Family, someone pulls her back in.

Overall, I loved this book and was able to finish it the same day I got it. The chapters switching from each characters POV keeps me interested. I had heard this was potentially a duology and am hoping that rumor is false. I need more of the characters and all of their drama. It's a must purchase for anyone who enjoyed the first book.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC of this novel.

SPOILERS AHEAD

The drama continues! Majesty follows in the same footsteps as American Royals, it is fun and highly entertaining, I had a hard time putting it down. Somehow each chapter tops the last with the twist and turns of the Washington’s lives.

With that being said, I felt like some of the plot points resolved themselves a little too quickly. For instance, after learning her best friend drugged her, causing her to be in a coma for nearly a year, Himari forgives Daphne within a few chapters. Connor and Beatrice’s relationship was mostly pushed to the side and is basically resolved in one chapter towards the end. This was disappointing because their relationship was one of the reasons the first book was so good. I wish it had more of a chance to fizzle out.

But to me, some of the most interesting aspects of the book are Daphne’s schemes that wreak havoc in everyone’s lives. Lucky for me, that plot was left wide open. So, all I can say is; there better be a third!

Thank you, Net Galley, for the Advance Reader Copy!

Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this title.

I loved American Royals when I picked it up last fall so when I saw Majesty I was excited to pick it up. I remember staying up late into the night eager to finish American Royal. Sadly that just wasn't the same for Majesty.

I was quickly swept up in the drama, but honestly I also found myself kind of bored. The first half dragged on and I didn't find myself all that interested in picking up the book. I would read a chapter or two and then set the book down for a few days, which for someone who takes just a couple days to read a book is definitely a sign that the book isn't working. I did find myself eager to read the last 1/3 of the book but mostly just so I could finish and move onto something else.

I think with tighter editing and a little more character depth this book could have been great.

WOW 😍 this is my most anticipated read of 2020 and it did NOT disappoint.

First of all, this cover, y’all. I can’t wait to add this to my shelf when it comes out in hardcover.

This sequel continues to follow Beatrice, Samantha, Nina, and Daphne in the aftermath of the events from book 1. I could read an entire book just from Bee’s perspective, so obviously her chapters were my favorite, but the maturity of each character surprised me. I absolutely loved how the author highlighted each character’s growth over the course of the novel and the evolution of each relationship - familial, romantic, and between friends. Sam became a quick favorite of mine in this sequel, and Teddy 😍😍 that’s all I’ll say for now. If you know, you know.
PLEASE tell me there is a third book coming! I could read about our American Royals forever.

Thank you to Random House and Random House Children for my free review copy. All thoughts are my own!

To say I am impressed with this sequel is an understatement. I have to say, I didn't love book one. I am an avid royal reader and was so intrigued by the concept. I found the characters repetitive, unlikable, and one dimensional in book one. But in book two I was pleasantly surprised by all the growth with the characters! I want a whole book from Beatrice's point of view truthfully and I am desperately hopeful we will get a book three! I found the writing and storytelling to be elevated from book one. I felt both Sam and Daphne were able to grow into more dynamic characters. I appreciated Nina's storyline in book one more than book two but love love LOVED Beatrice's growth. This book kept surprising me with where it was going in such a good way. I've read all of McGee's books and I have to say, this is without a doubt my favorite. While it was still YA, I was totally captivated. I will gladly read a million more in this series. I'd love a history book of the Washington Monarchy in America! If you could give half star ratings, this would be a 4.5 star read for me! I loved it, was impressed by the character growth and elevated writing style, and want more. Please give us a book three!

Beatrice, Samantha, Daphne, and Nina are back in action. After Princess Beatrice and Princess Samantha’s father tragically and unexpectedly passes away, Beatrice is thrust into the role of Queen. The first Queen to rule solely without a King Consort, Beatrice faces more challenges that just grief in the wake of her father’s death; she must convince both the American Congress and government as well as the American people that she is worthy of ruling on her own. Princess Samantha is suddenly the heir, and not the spare, to the throne. Living recklessly and in love with Beatrice’s fiance, Teddy, Samantha must face the reality that she needs to change her ways. However, she still wants to make Teddy jealous. Enlisting the help of Marshall, she sets out to make Teddy jealous, but the road to success is not always straight!
Daphne is a social climber and she will stop at nothing to get her way. After breaking up Nina and Prince Jefferson’s relationship, she embarks on her mission to win him back after nearly a year of being broken up. She enlists her “friend” Ethan to entertain Nina and keep her out of her way so she has an uninterrupted path to Jeff.
Nina is facing heartbreak after Daphne broke up her relationship with Prince Jefferson and when she confronts him to tell him of his ex’s toxic ways, he doesn’t believe her. But all of a sudden, Jefferson’s best friend Ethan is interested in her, and she’s not sure she can resist him.
The sequel to American Royals follows the lives of these four women after the tragic ending of the first book. Reader’s will laugh, they will cry, they will hate specific characters, and they will root like heck for others! Well-written and further developed characters make McGee’s sequel a smash!

I devoured the first book of this series even though it felt like a guilty pleasure, I couldn't put it down. That's why I couldn't wait for the sequel, which I'm sorry to say was a major letdown. Yes, the author's style is the same so the story has you hooked, BUT, some of the characters changed completely, while others had no personality or backbone at all.

Let's start with Beatrice. She is SO boring! No backbone or personality to speak of! She's that boring vanilla character on the soap opera, the one who fits with any leading male. Everyone falls in love with her, and the viewer/ reader is left wondering why. How could she go from having deep, long term feelings for Connor, to all of a sudden, falling for Teddy? So convenient for the plot, but so unbelievable. Next, the same thing goes for Ethan. For years he's carrying a torch for Daphne (though we're left wondering why. He knows what she's capable of more than anyone. How can he love or trust her?), but makes a complete 180 and falls for the runner up in boring, Nina. How does he go from the evil bitch to boring goody goody, Nina. And side point about Nina, please grow a backbone. She acts like she doesn't care that she's on the outside, but allows Daphne to break her up from Jeff and then Ethan, and has a heart to heart with her so called best friend right after, and doesn't tell her everything Daphne did, even though Samantha is slowly befriending Daphne. If my best friend were befriending someone capable of such evil, why would I keep quiet? She's allowing Daphne into the royal fold so she can potentially call the paparazzi on the royal family. Clearly, the author wants to keep Daphne around for more drama in the next installment. Typical soap opera villain who keeps getting away with everything.

Next, let's talk about Jeff. How blind (and boring) can you be? Goes from Daphne to Nina and back to Daphne again. Never really explained. We know how Daphne feels- she never really loved Jeff, she always loved Ethan. But how is it so easy for Jeff to go back and forth? Does he truly have feelings for anyone or is he just an empty shell?

I guess, the reasons I loved the first book, became too unbelievably annoying in the second.

Katharine McGee has done it again! I found American Royals enjoyable but Majesty blew me away. At the center of this novel was so much more than the romances for each of the four female leads, it was a story of discovery and validation. This was a page turner that kept me wanting to see what would happen next. Every reader of teen-centric royal novels will love the arcs showcased in Majesty and look forward to what will unfold in any future novels. This will surely me a must read this fall.
