An easy to read adorable book! This book revolves around Sadie who goes back to her hometown (which is also a beach town) after her grandfather passes away. Although she isn't sure what she wants to do with her life, she knows she wants to help her grandmother get their famous waffle house on the pier up and running again. There she finds an old love, and a new love, family issues and she ultimately finds what she is looking for. I enjoyed this book - as mentioned, it was very easy to read and although it was quite predictable, it was quite lovely and enjoyable.

Tilly Tennant books rarely fail to please and this one is no different. Sadie is training to be a teacher but when she goes to visit her Grandparents at their Waffle House on the Pier, tragedy strikes. With the loss of her Grandfather Sadie wants everybody to pull together and ensure the safety of the future of the Waffle House.

Sadie’s family are all really likeable and there is a strong sense of family bond from early on with her brother Ewan and his wife Kat, her Mum and Dad as well as her friends. Sadie’s situation is pretty relatable as she decides that she will give up her training and run the Waffle House with her Grandmother (Gammy).

We follow the story as Sadie tries (and fails on many fronts) to manage heloing run the business as well as negotiating her friendship with her ex-boyfriend Declan. This story was such an easy and thoroughly enjoyable read and it certainly transported me for the hours I spent reading it. This was a solid 4 star read and one that I would have no hesitation in recommending.

The Waffle House On The Pier by Tilley Tenant

Sadie’ s grandparents Have owned the Waffle House, on the pier, for many years. When Sadie’s grandfather dies, she quits her job and comes home to help run it. Her family does not agree with this. She also runs into her high school boyfriend.

This was as very light and enjoyable cozy mystery. The descriptions of the town, the beach and the attractions we’re very vivid. I can’t wait to read another book by this author. I highly recommend this book.

Trigger warnings: two drowning scenes and dementia.,

I wished I had read this book in the summer as it would have been a great read whilst relaxing on the beach. I loved meeting and reading all about the characters (although sometimes there was too many)

Even thought the title says about the waffle house, not many chapters occur there and felt like the brothers diving business was mentioned more!
There was only a few chapters where the main character was at the waffle house and actually working there!

I feel like the book should of had an epilogue where it goes to the MC running the waffle house in the future and catching up with everyone!

Saying that, I think I'm going to go find somewhere nearby that does waffles!

I thought the synopsis of the book sounded interesting, but rom-coms aren't my typically genre. In the end, it was too cheesy for me to continue.

This was an enjoyable read about love, finding oneself, and family. I would love to go to Sea Salt Bay. I really liked the characters and hated for the book to end.
Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

Sadie comes home to Sea Salt Bay to try and save their family waffle business on the pier. Her grandfather died and she wants to give her grandmother a sense of purpose to help her with her grief. She gives up her training as a teacher and throws herself into bringing the waffle house back to life. Her family are all busy with their own businesses in the bay and she soon discovers that she may have bitten off more than she can handle. Her grandmother shows signs of dementia which make running the business a lot more difficult than she expected.
It is a lovely read, with people excited to see the waffle house reopen, making your mouth water. It has everything, family, sadness, hope and waffles! It gives you a real sense of a traditional holiday by the sea, with the pier being a focal point for meeting, eating and generally enjoying the sea air.

I requested The Waffle House on the Pier because the cover and description made me think of an easy read with sweet romance. While this was partially true, it was a big disappointment.

The storyline, well, since it was a summer read I wasn't expecting a brilliant novel. It wasn't, but that was fine with me.

The biggest disappointment was the romance. So little chemistry between the main characters! Instead of endearing, her love interest came across as a bit controlling and smothering when he popped up wherever she was every single day.

Thank you to Net Galley for the ARC for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this copy of The Waffle House on the Pier by Tilly Tennant in exchange for an honest review. It published June 25, 2020.
This is your typical, cutesy, romcom, with heartwarming moments, a fairly stressful situation, and an atmospheric setting.
This book was a delight to read, however, the chapters were so very long, and those chapters were filled with extremely long paragraphs. When I’m coming to read a romance, I’m not necessarily looking for fluff and mindless nonsense, which this isn’t, but I expect short chapters and not to be in the narrator’s head as much.
I think this is worth the read if you’re interested in this genre, just be ready to focus for long periods of time!

Having never read Tennant before, I was glad to read this latest book on vacation. A perfect beach read, it gave the perfect balance of plot development, intriguing characters, and vivid imagery. WIll seek out some of her other titles.

I really enjoyed the family aspect of this novel. I thought Sadie's relationship with her brother was very believable and enjoyed their banter.

Sadie's relationship with her grandmother was adorable and I really connected with that part of the book. But with that being said, I did not fully believe the romantic connections that Sadie had with Delcan or Luke. I wanted more from that standpoint in the novel.

The romantic relationship that Sadie and Luke had seemed forced and I did not feel the chemistry between the two. I also felt that Sadie's character was very flat and underdeveloped.

My favorite part of this novel, though, was the setting of Sea Salt Bay. It was very atmospheric and I could picture the sea side town in my head. I thought the author did an outstanding job at making the reader really feel the small town setting and almost the nostalgia of the town itself.

Would I recommend this book as a romance? No. Would I recommend this book as a domestic family fiction novel? Yes. If you like family-focused novels that talk about grief and loneliness in a "light-hearted" way, I think this would be perfect for you.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

When Sadie's grandfather dies, her family is torn about what to do with the waffle house he and his wife owned. Sadie sees an out to her current teaching job she's not cut for, so she decides to keep the business going alongside her grandmother. She wasn't expecting to find out her grandmother is starting to show dementia signs that will cause some inconveniences keeping the business afloat. Her ex-boyfriend (who now has a girlfriend) is still in her life, helping her deal with the changes in her life. After an accident at sea, she ends up meeting a new man who will make her doubt who is the man she wants in her life.

Ok, so there was a bit of everything in this book. When I saw the premise, I thought the romance would have had more presence in the story, but it actually kicks off halfway through the book. What this book is really about is Sadie's self-discovery path. Getting to know what she wants in her working life, as well as her love life.

I really liked how believable were the characters' actions, I even related to side characters who even not having a POV narration felt very well developed.

Tilly Tennant is one of my favourite authors, she always gets the blend of interesting characters & good storylines just right. So I was really looking forward to reading this book. However, had I not known it was by her I would never have known. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still an enjoyable book which I devoured much like one of the delicious sounding waffles in the story. But, it just wasn’t as good as her previous books.
The wrangling within a multi-generational family was good to read, the grief of losing a grandparent and the shockwaves of discovering that a loved one is declining was well-written, but at times somewhat a little far-fetched & beyond my imaginings for my liking.
A good, enjoyable read, but just not as great as her other books.

This book had a really dramatic start, and I loved that! This was an engrossing read, which took you on an enjoyable journey. Sadie is very lovable and her story is heartwarming.

The family relationships and values were really nice to read. I found the teenagers really funny, their attitude and actions brought a lot of humour into the book. I also loved the portrayal of ageing relatives, the ups and downs of trying to find a place in life.

This book also shows you a lot of what it's like to live by the sea, the joys, but also the dangers. I enjoyed this a lot because I also live by the sea and know both of these things.

Sadie feels uninspired with her small town life and is training to be a teacher however she thinks that won't suit her either. But then a family tragedy makes her re-evaluate her priorities and she leaves her course in order to run the waffle house with her grandmother. But April's health is in decline so who can Sadie turn to for help: Decllan her ex boyfriend or Luke her current beau?
There is romance and drama but also emotion and grief in The Waffle House on the Pier. It is still a light hearted read but does tackle tough subjects in a gentle way.
I was a little frustrated with Sadie and her vacillating approach to life. I felt that the teacher training experience was a little unrealistic based on my own work in schools. Her love life and family circumstances were enjoyable to read about and countered the sadder elements of the plot.
The love triangle with Declan and Luke was intriguing. Sadie isn't completely over her relationship with Declan but isn't sure if she loves him like a best friend or brother rather than a lover. She loves him rather than being in love with him and is getting in the way of his new relationship, with her friends egging her on to rekindle the romance.
Meanwhile, her relationship with Luke gets off to a bad start when he accidentally injures her, earning the animosity of her family. He arrives in her life at both the wrong and right time: he wants to help her with her plans for the waffle house but they have been together too short a time for it to be a realistic option. But he is able to support her in her choices even though they striggle to find time together due to her new commitments.
The ending was a little abrupt and I was left wanting to know more about the solution the family settles on in the last pages. However, it was also a sign that I enjoyed the book that I wanted more!
This is an engaging and entertaining book and put me in the mood for summer love and a beach holiday. Oh, and waffles!

You know what REALLY bugged me?

The fact that I cannot give this book anymore than five stars :(. (Sorry Tilly, you can breathe now haha). If I could reach into the night sky and pluck out every single shining star there was, I would put them onto Amazon and co in a heartbeat. I truly, truly think that this novel is worth its weight in gold – I loved it. This is Tilly Tennant at her finest, and then some.

Why?

Because ‘The Waffle House on the Pier’ isnt just about what toppings you can put on your waffles, nor is it just about keeping memories alive. It’s about being strong enough to know when something in your life isnt right for you, something which Sadie took the guts to change when she realised that she wasnt entirely cut out for the career she had been working towards.

Not only that, this book is about learning not to settle for second best and being true to your heart. Sadie’s love life was questionable, and many of her loved ones felt as though she made the wrong choice by choosing to ‘dump’ Declan. Every man she dated after him was always being compared to him and his personality. Although I was gutted to find that she didnt date an Ant….

Sadie wasnt given enough credit by her mother for the way she conducted her life, which I felt was a shame as, even if parents dont like the choices their children make, surely they should support them in their endeavours regardless? That certainly wasnt the case there and i really did feel as though Sadie was quite a misunderstood character.

For me, the waffle house may have been a sweet family connection, however it was the true heart and soul of the storyline. A real stepping stone, if you will, to allowing Sadie and her family to finally realise their worths.

Like I said before, this was Tilly Tennant at her finest and, despite having read many, MANY of this authors books, I will even go as far to say that ‘The Waffle House on the Pier’ is my most favourite book that Tilly has written so far.

A delectable, heartwarming, generous, free spirited novel that was absolutely spot on.
