An excellent start to a new cozy mystery series. I fell in love immediately with the setting. I spent many a vacation in the Emerald Coast of Florida. Since traveling is limited currently this was the perfect staycation book. Beautiful scenery amidst the murder.

Many interesting characters that will build the series with their stories. I'm interested to learn more ViVi, Rhett and Joaquin. Plus many others.

I'm not much of a drinker but I think it would have been interesting to have some of the drink recipes included.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher, Kensington, through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in the above review are entirely my own.

A new series from Sherry Harris has readers jumping for joy. From Beer to Eternity, the first book in the "A Chloe Jackson, Sea Glass Saloon Mystery" saloon series, is a true wonder. Chloe would not be anyone's idea of a hero, but she steps in when her best friend, Boone, dies while in the military to help and protect his grandmother, Vivi. However, Vivi is unlike any grandmother Chole has ever known or expected. She is feisty, smart, and puts up with no-nonsense from anyone.

The characters in this new series are already well-rounded, with distinct personalities and weaknesses. They ooze charisma and diversity. From Chloe herself to Joaquin, the bartender, to what is hoped to be Chloe's love interest Rhett, these characters will keep readers enthralled. The setting of a saloon, which isn't a saloon as she imagined it would be but a beach side bar, has a charm all its own. Readers will yearn to sit on a beach and sip a cocktail while people watching.

The murder victim is found behind Vivi's saloon, and none other than Chloe and Rhett find the body. It doesn't take long for Chloe to suspect Vivi may have had a hand in the man's death, or fo the police to think the same. She feels it is up to her to clear Vivi of the suspicion as quickly as she can while keeping her promise to Boone before returning to her home of Chicago. Not that she has a home to return too. The suspects all have sensational motives, but only one of them is a killer. After a hair-raising chase and heroic action by Chloe, the killer is exposed.

From Beer to Eternity is a spectacular beginning for what will be a remarkable series. Readers expect nothing less from Ms. Harris, and she delivers. I can't wait to read more of Chloe's adventures and learn more about Vivi and her saloon, not to mention Rhett and Joaquin's stories. I am overjoyed to recommend this book to readers who want a great read with memorable characters and a setting that will leave them breathless.

Too many notes to quote a famous movie. There was too much going on in this book and the story seemed contrived to make all the side tangents fit together in a jumbled mess. It was ok but nothing I would rush to recommend.

Title: From Beer to Eternity

Series: A Chloe Jackson, Sea Glass Saloon Mystery

Genre: Cozy Mystery

Rating: 4 stars

Publisher: Kensington

Librarian Chloe Jackson finds herself working at the Sea Glass bar in Florida after a promise she made her best friend Boone. She working as a waitress at Boone’s grandmas bar when she stubbles over a dead body a body that leads to Vivi being the prime suspect.

Now it’s up to Chloe to clear Vivi’s name and find the real murderer all while keeping her promise to Boone a secret.

I’ve read plenty of cozy mysteries set in bars and restaurants but this was the first one I’ve read set in Florida at a beach bar. It was a fun quick read that I enjoyed and I look forward to the next book in the series. I did enjoy the fact that Chloe was a Librarian who was always adding bookish tidbits to the story and the fact that she got a kick out of meeting a guy name Rhett. And her saying drunks aren’t that different from toddlers in the library was classic.

I can’t wait for the next one in the series and I recommend this book to fans of cozy mysteries who love eccentric characters.

As a huge fan of Sherry Harris's Garage Sale Mysteries, I couldn't wait for this first book in a new series. Although very different, this book did not let me down.

Chloe Jackson leaves her library life in Chicago to head down to the Florida Panhandle. Chloe's best friend, Boone, made her promise that if anything ever happened to him, she would go check on his grandmother, Vivi. Vivi was not what Chloe expected. A vivacious, beach bar owner, Vivi is not some frail grandmother but it doesn't mean she and Chloe don't need each other, they may just not know it yet.

With the loss and grief of Boone, a dead body, Vivi being a suspect, and someone out to get rid of Chloe; Vivi and Chloe form a bond.

I enjoyed the setting, the characters and the relationships formed in this book. I look forward to seeing their growth as the series progresses.

I had a digital copy of this book from Netgalley and the audio version narrated by Nancy Wu.

This is the first book in Sherry Harris's new Chloe Jackson, Sea Glass Saloon Mystery series. Chicago children's librarian Chloe Jackson has temporarily moved to Emerald Cove, Florida, to help her best friend Boone's grandmother, Vivi, run her business after his death in Afghanistan. Chloe is not sure why Boone made this request of her before leaving for his deployment, as Vivi is not the frail old lady Chloe had been picturing, she is feisty, and independent and does not want Chloe around, especially working with her. When a murder victim is found behind the bar, and it is a patron that Vivi had argued with, she becomes the main suspect. Chloe doesn't think that she is guilty and decides to do her own investigation to prove Vivi is innocent. When she starts to get involved, she soon becomes the killer's next target.

I enjoy Sherry Harris' other series and her writing, so was happy to delve into this book. As expected, I enjoyed her writing, the plot development and the characters. Her descriptions had me picturing the setting and longing to head back to Florida for the sun, sand, and water. Chloe is a great character. She is smart, caring, loyal, likable and has a sense of humor. I was rooting for her to figure out what was going on and to be accepted by Vivi, her dear friend's grandmother. I am looking forward to seeing what is next for her, especially in her relationships with Vivi and Rhett. The mystery was well-crafted, with plenty of twists and red herrings to keep you guessing until the exciting reveal. There were other plotlines that were an integral part of the story and very timely in our world today. I enjoyed this book with its mystery, humor, quirky characters and beautiful setting and recommend it to cozy mystery lovers as well as those who enjoy books set at the beach.

Chloe Jackson travels to the small Florida Gulf Coast town of Emerald Cove to fulfill a promise made to her late best friend. Boone was killed in action and she had promised to help his grandmother Vivi run her beach bar, the Sea Glass Saloon. Almost immediately after Chloe's arrival, a long-time local is murdered right behind the bar and Vivi becomes the prime suspect. After Boone's will is read, Chloe and Vivi's relationship becomes entangled, providing her more reason to help exonerate Vivi and solve the crime.

This debut book is a great start to this series set in area known for its quiet beaches and quaint small towns, outside the party atmosphere of Panama City and I was fortunate to have spent some quality time there. The author paints a detailed setting and I feel like I'm back there enjoying the beach and foods. Chloe is a strong character, loyal to Boone, but now struggling with the loss of him as well as memories of a traumatic childhood event. She's brave, resourceful and stubborn--qualities also shared by Vivi. The reading pace was comfortable and the number of characters was easily manageable. Her friendship with co-worker Joaquin provided a realistic insight into local, tight-knit community who are naturally suspicious of the Northern newcomer. The book also reflects the tensions many beach communities face between long-time residents and newer ones regarding development and how much is too much. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series!

Thanks to NetGalley and Kensington for a copy of this book. My review is voluntary.

Chloe made a promise to her best friend before he went to Afghanistan that if anything happened to him, she would look after his grandma. Well Vivi isn’t the sort to take kindly to be looked after. When Chloe finds a body behind the sea glass all fingers point to Vivi. Chloe has to stay and help her, but can she help Vivi stay out of jail?

It took me a bit to get into this book and the killer was a little obvious but the unfolding story between Chloe and Vivi was delightful. Add in a handsome man and I will check out the next book in the #seaglasssaloonmystery series!

From Beer to Eternity is the first book in the Sea Glass Saloon Mystery series! We meet the main character—Chloe as she’s helping her late friend’s grandmother—Vivi run the Sea Glass Saloon in the Florida Panhandle. A regular at the bar is found murdered, and Vivi’s the main suspect.

To be honest, this book was a little hard to get into at first. I think it was the writing style—lots of huge paragraphs right off the bat, which turned me off. But I kept trucking through, and after I got past the first couple of chapters, it got better and then I was hooked!

The setting was literally gorgeous! It was very beautifully described and vivid. I felt like I was actually there in the hot Florida sun, feeling the scorching winds on my skin.

The cast of characters was awesome! They were delightfully colorful and entertaining. They all added a unique charm to the story. I also really connected with Chloe and her lingering emotions regarding her late best friend. Her emotions felt very pure and real, and they really got to me—touched me.

The mystery itself was well done. It was very intriguing and twisty at times, but certain parts and twists were predictable. The ending was very satisfying though and wrapped up rather nicely.

One thing that did bother me was the setting descriptions. Yes, they were beautiful and well-written, but there were TOO many of them. I get setting the scene but some of the descriptions weren’t needed. Sometimes they felt awkwardly placed, which messed up the flow of the story for me.

Overall, it was a great start to a new series! It was very fun and exciting, and I look forward to reading the next book in the series!

Just found a new favorite cozy mystery series! I love everything about this book--the touristy beach setting, the water sports, the glass bottom boat tours, the booze! I was a little worried about the whole "Redneck Riviera" locale since I deplore this particular culture, but the author threw in some LGBT characters and a very progressive female protagonist, so I didn't come across any tone-deaf, cringe-worthy moments. Hoorah!

As for the mystery, I enjoyed accompanying Chloe as she tracked down clues at seedy bars (with sugary machine-made margaritas, ick!) and various tourist attraction ran by proprietors who all had ample motive for knocking off the town weirdo who scared away customers with his bizarre armadillo hat.

The only thing that irked me was Chloe's bartending boss, Vivi. Also, I didn't quite understand how she could throw her big city Librarian career away to go work a minimum wage barkeep job without a roof over her head. I mean, yeah, she promised her deceased best friend she'd take care of his bitchy aunt Vivi, but dang! Well, she's a better person than me because I would've spun on my heels and fled back to Chicago the moment Vivi slammed the door in my face. I'm sure in the next book, she'll be much more pleasant, but throughout this first installment, I just wanted to wring her neck.

That aside, this is a quality read with an endearing and relatable female sleuth. I'm interested to see how thing progress with the hunky and mysterious Rhett!

From Beer to Eternity by Sherry Harris is a fabulous start to a new series. The characters and the setting are perfect.

Will Chloe keep her promise to Boone or die trying?

Chloe Jackson
Chloe is our main character and sleuth. She is in Emerald Cove to mourn her best friend and keep her promise to him. Chloe lives in Chicago and is a librarian in the children's department there. But she made a promise and now finds herself in Florida, waitressing in a bar and sleeping in her car. Chloe questions why she is there, when Vivi (Boone's grandmother), doesn't even want her around. But none of that matters as Chloe is there for Vivi, and she can't believe that Vivi would commit murder. So, Chloe is out to find the real culprit, so; she can return to her real life.

I like Chloe, she has heart, integrity, honor, loyalty, and she is stubborn, a little reckless and didn't see what was right in front of her until it was too late. But she has plenty of time to figure all that out. Heck, she may even make a good bartender one day.

The Mystery
Vivi is accused of killing Elwell, with her knife and leaving him in the dumpster area behind her bar. First off, that is preposterous. Who would be that dumb? But there seems to be more going on than just Elwell's murder. Chloe starts asking questions, and now someone is after her too. With the help of her new friends, she figures out some of what is going on. But is it enough to save Vivi and herself? You'll have to read the book to find out.

Five Stars
I was excited when I first read about this book, and it didn't disappoint. Chloe is funny and is willing to do what has to be done to get the job done. The characters are well developed, and the setting is beautiful. The author's descriptions paint a brilliant picture. My rating for From Beer to Eternity by Sherry Harris is five stars. I loved it and recommended this book to all you cozy readers out there.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

I am so excited about Sherry Harris’s new series. Don’t worry, there is a new Sarah Winston Garage Sale Mystery coming in December.

In From Beer to Eternity, we meet Chloe Jackson, a children’s librarian in Chicago who has taken a leave of absence to fulfill a promise she made to her best friend Boone who was killed in Afghanistan. She promised that if anything happened to him to go help his grandmother in the Florida Panhandle with her business, the Sea Glass Saloon. Short on details, Chloe uses a few white lies to get Vivi Slidell to hire her as a cocktail waitress so she can find out just what help this seemingly very competent woman may need. Chloe never expected she would be working to keep the woman out of jail after one of her regulars is found dead behind the bar. Chloe soon finds that something is clearly brewing in the town of Emerald Cove and her questions could land both her and Vivi in the line of fire.

Ms. Harris has introduced some very strong characters in this story and fleshed them out nicely in this first book while leaving them plenty of room to grow in future installments. I loved that Chloe found common ground with the sometimes cranky young children she usually works with and the overindulging patrons at the Sea Glass Saloon. Handling both in the same way successfully. She is smart and can think on her feet. Dealing with Boone’s death is hard especially when she finds out his true feelings. Vivi is a strong, independent woman, and nothing like Chloe expected. She has run her business successfully for years. Bartender Joaquin befriends Chloe quickly and is a great buffer between Chloe and Vivi. These main characters are surrounded by a great supporting cast.

The setting for this series is positively divine. A place I would go to and probably never leave. As in her other series it is set near military bases, Elgin Air Force Base and the nearby Hurlburt Field and there are Navy bases nearby too. Her descriptions of the area were fantastic and created wonderful imagery. She took us to several places and I really felt like I was right there with her.

The mystery was well done, complex, and intriguing with plenty of suspects. I couldn’t really hone in on any person fully because they all seemed a bit shady with secrets or hiding something. The mystery reveal was a bit rushed for me although very exciting. I was on the edge of my seat.

As the book came to a close the ending wasn’t much of a surprise but this series is off to a fine start.

From Brew to Eternity feels like more than a cozy mystery. While it has all the cozy elements, amateur sleuth, small-town setting, humor in all the right places, etc. Chloe deals with the loss of Boone and that adds an extra serious element. I am eager to see where the author takes this series.

I loved this book! Lots of interesting, complex and quirky characters. Twists and turns that keep you guessing to the end. Chloe follows through on a promise to a friend to help his grandmother after his death. Murder and mayhem follow. A wonderful read!
