As someone that hates doing laundry, this book proved to be very informative while also helping me combat so many of the things that I hate about this chore. Richardson writes in a personal and instructive way that never mocks the reader even if the subject matter appears to be simple. Since not everyone has had the chance to be instructed in the correct ways of laundry, this compassionate and enlightening book will change you relationship to your clothes for the better.

Laundry Love
by Patric Richardson; Karin B. Miller
Published Mar 30, 2021

If you would have told me I would read a book on "laundry" and actually enjoy it I would have laughed in your face. But this book was recommended by one of my favorite book bloggers, Anne Bogel so I decided to take a chance.
This was a good book and I will recommend it to others. Thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for the ARC.
This is a 5-star book.

Who knew that reading a book would inspire me to get up and do my laundry? Laundry Love: Finding Joy In A Common Chore by Patric Richardson with Karin B. Miller was a delightful read. I am so glad that I picked it up after seeing it featured on Modern Mrs. Darcy. This book helped me to up my laundry game and as domestic as that sounds, I am so excited about that.

Laundry Love is all about Richardson’s love affair with doing the laundry and garments and textiles. I loved it. It felt like a friend dishing to me about different things but also educating me. I learned so much from this book. This includes hacks to save me money on laundry as well as how to get out different stains so as to save me money on clothes. I loved learning how to make my clothes last longer as well as how to lower the environmental impact from doing laundry. I actually felt inspired enough from reading this to come up with a tiktok on laundry hacks learned from this book.

Personally, I will be adding a copy of this book to my collection once it is out in paperback. I feel like it can sit next to Marie Kondo’s The Life-Changing Magic Of Tidying Up on my shelf. Granted, this book absolutely does not espouse a minimalist philosophy about clothes — rather the opposite. I just liked that it got me all pumped up about doing a chore and ultimately improving my home aesthetic — actually doing all the laundry one one day and not leaving clothes unfolded and in baskets. This book strikes the perfect tone for both people who are laundry lovers and laundry beginners.

And well, if you need the inspiration, give it a read. This book is quick to get through and you’ll walk out with practical knowledge. If you’re anything like me, walk from reading this book right to the washing machine, basket in hand, ready to go with your new skills.

A strangely interesting and useful book. It has changed how I clean my clothes in several ways. In some ways it is too much information, but the author is passionate and I learned some good things--especially about avoiding chemicals in my cleaning products.

I listened to this via audiobook gifted from MacMillian audio. It was a well done nonfiction novel that was narrated by the author Patric Richardson.

I want to say that I first noticed that this man gives all the women in his life so much praise. They noticed that he was very fascinated by laundry and fabrics and such a young age and he appreciated it and loved them for that.

I will say that as much as I enjoyed the audiobook version I will say that I would have preferred to have a print copy also. There were so many lists and tips and I think I would like a physical copy to keep as a reference. The author gave so many amazing stain removal tips (one that I have already used, not even a week later to clean up a mess left my my dog on the rug). I love the natural and environmentally friendly solutions that he had. I am excited to get my laundry line too.

Defiantly a great reference read!

This book was excellent! I immediately purchased a copy for my library and will be promoting it to students. I learned so much about doing laundry and caring for my clothes and I'm making some major changes in the way I do this simple task. It also made such a simple, routine task fun and exciting. I was especially thrilled to find the author has a tv show on Discovery+.

This book was easy to read and quite helpful! I haven't tried many of the tips yet on my own laundry, but I'm looking forward to saving money and time! Cheers to whites that stay white and colors that don't fade! Oh and don't forget that fresh from the line smell! I will never be going back to the harsh cleaning methods I was using again!

I read Laundry Love: Finding Joy in A Common Chore on the recommendation of @annebogel. She sang high praises in one of her book talks. I was lucky enough to get a preview copy on @Netgalley.

The book is a nonfiction book with loads 😂 of ideas to make your weekly or daily laundry chore more efficient and enjoyable. I knew from the beginning of the book when I read this quote: “My idea of the ultimate in luxury is sun-dried, fresh-smelling laundry taken right off the line--especially sheets and then sleeping in those sheets,” that I was going to enjoy this book. There is nothing I enjoy more than fresh smelling sheets from the clothesline. I didn’t know if this book was going to tell me anything I didn’t already know after all I’ve been doing the laundry for 37 years.

However, Patric Richardson is a clothing expert. He majored in fashion design and runs a clothing store and Laundry Camps. So he knows a bit about laundry himself. His writing style is very casual, and it feels like you were having a conversation with a best friend.

There are so many great tips in the book and my favorite section is how to spot out every type of stain. What I really liked about this book was Patric’s attitude toward the laundry. When you are doing the laundry for your family you are showing them how much you care. You care that they look their best and feel their best each time they get dressed. This is definitely a book you may want to give as a gift to someone who is just moving out on their own AND add some tabs and notes so you don’t get calls about how to get stains out of the carpet.

Thank you @NetGalley and @flatiron_books for allowing me to preview this wonderful book.

Laundry Love is an interesting philosophical and warmly humorous love letter to laundry and textiles by Patric Richardson. Due out 30th March 2021 from Macmillan on their Flatiron Books imprint, it's 208 pages and will be available in hardcover, audio, and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats.

This is a genuinely engaging thorough tutorial with solid information aimed at extending the life of our textiles, taking care of the items we have and saving time, using economical environmentally friendly cleaning products (which are less expensive than pre-packaged single use "pods"), and making a household chore less unpleasant (or dare I say it, actually fun).

From the information the author provides throughout the chatty text, it seems we grew up in the same geographic area of Appalachia during roughly the same decades (he looks a few years younger than I am), and I recognized so many of the archetypal characters from his formative years. I could "hear" their voices as I was reading - so this read was much more for me than just a dry tutorial guide to doing laundry.

Five stars. Beautifully written, engaging, warmly funny, exuberant, and full of valuable info. I really honestly loved this quirky book. I want more from this author.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

I think I might have fallen in love with laundry. What an awesome book! Patric certainly made me giddy to sort my clothes and also motivated me to make some drastic changes. This book is filled with practical tips for better laundering as well as charming tales of history and proven results. I've already ordered some supplies and I'm ready to become a mixologist of natural laundry solutions that will make our household healthier and happier. When it comes to the chemicals we use in softeners and detergents, I've never been comfortable, but now I feel like I have the right guidance to get me into a healthy routine that takes us back to the old-school way of doing things. The right way of doing something is sometimes the simpler way and I appreciate how this book laid out the steps for each fabric, color, and stain while also sorting away all the unnecessarily complicated instructions our machines and labels give us. Thank you so much, NetGalley and Flatiron Books for letting me in on this book! I loved it!

I loved this book! It was like sitting down and having a wonderful chat with your favorite fashionista friend over the best possible cup of coffee. (Like my first cafe creme when I finally made it to Paris!)
Patric knows everything about textiles, fabrics, fashions and how to care for them. In my 20's I was a hopeless clothes horse, working in the industry and spending a HUGE part of my meager earnings on my dry cleaning bill. It wasn't until my late 40's that I finally got up the courage to take a few "dry clean only" items and wash them in cold water. We all survived! And cashmere sweaters that were part of my "salary"...well if a goat can live outside, I'm sure hand-washing a sweater won't hurt it. If only I had this book back then! I was so nervous every time I didn't follow the washing instructions on labels. Patric confidently instructs us all, with great humor, knowledge and so many fun stories. I wish I lived closer to his shop so I could attend his Laundry Camp with my dear friend, Lori. I know we would have a blast. I'll settle instead, with giving her this charming book for her birthday.

This title may seem like an oxymoron to some, but by the end of the book, you'll be converted. You also may think you know how to do laundry, but the author may surprise you there, too!

What I loved most about this book is that it took something I view as a task, and while not my least favorite task, it's still more of a chore, and it made me view it as potentially more of an art. The tone is both serious and playful, practical and approachable. This book surprised me in how much it made me want to throw out all my detergents and softeners and convert my laundry room into a sanctuary of clean and simple.

I loved this book so much! I found it to be an unexpected and delightful combination of soothing and informative, and am eager to put some of Patric's tips into practice right away! I took copious notes, which I imagine makes me like most readers of this chatty and helpful book. This would make an excellent gift for all kinds of occasions and I look forward to introducing many readers to it in the future.
