Action and Danger! How does Sarah Denning, a journalist with the US Army, end up in a psychiatric hospital? Sarah has done investigative reporting and sees something suspicious in all of the suicides among people who have been hospitalized there including her brother who seemed to be doing great. I admired Gavin Black who was hired by Sarah's father, The General, to protect Sarah. Gavin is in a difficult place where he wants to get to know Sarah better and knowing she will be furious if she learns The General has hired him. Sarah has faced difficulties in her teenage years with poor judgment and knows God has forgiven her but has trouble forgiving herself or believing Gavin won't hold it against her. I liked how Gavin helped Sarah see that her past was not who she is now. I recommend Acceptable Risk to others who enjoy romantic suspense but the suicides and other somewhat gory scenes may be difficult for some people to read. I received an advance e-copy through NetGalley and Revell Publishing. This is my honest opinion.

I could not put this book down. The books in this series just keep getting better. This book shows how we all need to listen better and learn from each other. The characters are fantastic. This has many twists and turns. There is so much action that you are not sure what might happen next. I received a copy of this book from Revell Publishers for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

Wow! This story starts out with a bang and doesn’t stop once it gets going. Acceptable Risk is the second book in the Danger Never Sleeps series by Lynette Eason. And for those of you who love suspense, it will not disappoint!

Acceptable Risk tells the story of Sarah Denning (Who we met in book one, but you can read these out of order. You might just be missing a little bit of background – but it doesn’t impact this story greatly). Sarah is a military journalist stationed in the Middle East.

The pages of this story begin with Sarah being taken hostage and her rescue by former Army Ranger Gavin Black. Black agreed to rescue Sarah at the insistence of Sarah’s overbearing Army commander father.

Once rescued, Sarah finds out her father has had her honorably discharged based on a false psych eval. Then, Sarah finds out about her brother’s suicide. Unable to accept his suicide, Sarah and Gavin work to find out the truth – as long as they can both come out alive.

I loved this story! This suspenseful series from Eason maybe my favorite she has written. I loved that parts of this story drew from characters we met in Collateral Damage. The pain points of this story felt so real for the characters that I felt I was right along with them. I appreciated the weight of the struggle that doesn’t always feel like it fully concludes on a personal level for the characters.

I also love a romance thread that has characters that were interacting well before the story I’m reading begins. It brings a greater depth to the characters as they can draw on previous interactions and have more familiarity with each other.

Acceptable Risk kept me reading long into the night because I wanted to know what was happening next. Lately, I’ve been able to work out the endings to a lot of suspenseful books I’ve been reading. But not this one! I didn’t see the ending coming!

This series has been amazing and can’t wait for the next book to release!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. This review is my own, honest opinion.

This is a non-stop romantic suspense thriller. I don't want to spoil the story by describing it any further. I received a free copy of this ebook from the publisher through Netgallery. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. There is a realistic mystery that kept me guessing until the end. I didn't want to put this book down. The main characters are also believable. I love that Sarah is inquisitive, blunt, persistent, courageous, strong, and resourceful. I like that Galvin believed in Sarah and realized that it was important for Sarah to pursue the investigation. I also liked that Sarah's brother Caden was an important part of this story. This is a terrific read.

What a great new read from seasoned author Lynette Eason! While I managed to miss reading book one of the Danger Never Sleeps series first, this second book was very enjoyable and reads easily as a standalone novel. I devoured this story in a short amount of time as the result of the fast-paced, exciting storyline that offered plenty of action. I found the main characters, Sarah and Gavin, to be tenacious and strong. Might I even add that Gavin was swoon-worthy? I loved how he protected Sarah and his tender care for her was so evident in his thoughts and actions. I also enjoyed watching Sarah’s heart change and grow as she worked through her past.

The story begins with an intense opener, slows to a mild suspense then builds in intensity, calms again and repeats, which made for a good reading pace. The romance between Sarah and Gavin leaves nothing to be desired as I chuckled over their conversation, watched their bond grow and discovered the depth each of them brought to the relationship.

This story delves lightly into the topic of suicide and PTSD without being too heavy. Either focus may be a trigger for those who’ve dealt with those feelings/actions in their own lives, or loved ones lives, so if you fall into that category, do tread carefully into this story. I feel that Eason handles the realities of these topics delicately and offers hope in her story as well. This book is best enjoyed in the context that it was intended, which is suspense and not meant to be a deep dive into the complexities of suicide or PTSS/PTSD.

Overall, I found Acceptable Risk to be an uncomplicated, enjoyable story that left me excited to go back and read the first book in the series, as well as eagerly anticipate the next book coming! It is one that I highly recommend to those who enjoy romantic suspense and mild thrillers. This story was clean and is appropriate for mature readers 16+.

I could not wait to get my hands on this book. The cover alone tempted me, and then seeing it was Lynette Eason had me hooked. I knew I was going to be in for a treat. Eason easily kept up her side of the bargain. From the very beginning I was biting my nails nervously awaiting what might happen next. I was taken on a jaw dropping ride and couldn’t read the pages fast enough. Sarah was the definition of tough. Smart and capable she can hold her own in a family of guys. It was fun watching her learn that while she is those things, it doesn’t hurt to let a guy be a hero here and there. The chemistry between Sarah and Gavin was undeniable, even if they tried to fight it. I really can’t blame Sarah for swooning a time or two, Gavin is a strong tattooed dose of yummy. I loved getting to know them and wasn’t ready to say goodbye.

Eason kept me on my toes the whole time. This was not one of those stories where you can guess what will happen next. She braided the perfect amount of mystery, suspense, and romance. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys those three things. It was awesome seeing a strong and capable female lead, and the male complimented her perfectly. They were both far from perfect and had to learn a few hard truths about themselves. And I enjoyed every moment I spent with them. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell Publishing and was in no way forced to post a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Captured in a Taliban raid on a girls’ school, American military journalist Sarah Denning is injured in a nick-of-time rescue mission. Not until she’s flown home to the US against her will does she learn that her high-ranking father has arranged to have her discharged as a suicide risk.

Sarah’s been fighting her father since her mother died, and she’s not about to give up now. But before she can prove herself fit for duty, she must heal from her wounds—and from the devastating loss of her brother.

Former Army Ranger Gavin Black, who led the rescue mission in Afghanistan, runs a security organization based in the US. Now Sarah’s father hires him to guard her—but if she finds out, she’ll refuse the protection out of spite.

And she needs the protection. Threats on her father’s life could extend to his family. Plus, Sarah is pushing for answers about a missing patient she encountered in the hospital—who staff deny was ever there.

Like book 1 in the series, Collateral Damage, this is romantic suspense where the violence and trauma of serving in Afghanistan follows the hero and heroine home to civilian life. Sarah and Gavin are strong people carrying PTSD and other wounds, needing time to heal but finding they’re still in danger in a conflict where they don’t know how to identify the enemy.

I like Sarah and Gavin, and the solid friendships they’ve developed with a small core of people they’ve served with in the past. And I like how Sarah, even when injured or overpowered, keeps her head and plays an active part in her own rescue. Gavin may be there to defend her, but there are times she defends him.

Acceptable Risk is Book 2 in the Danger Never Sleeps series. Book 3, Active Defense, releases in early 2021. For more about award-winning author Lynette Eason, visit lynetteeason.com.

Eason is one of my favorite romantic suspense writers, and her writing was top-notch. My beef with this book is not with the writing, but the characters.

Sarah is a very strong military woman whose goal in life is simply to antagonize dad. She is so hateful and annoying. Gavin is a sweetheart, but more interested in mollifying Sarah than being a man.

The who-dun-it was well done, though, I had a vague idea and I was right.

If you like super strong military women and more gentle men, you might enjoy ACCEPTABLE RISK. This book wasn't my favorite but I will read book 3.

I was given a copy free. AIl opinions are my own.

I've previously enjoyed books by this author. This was no exception. The intricate details kept me engaged in this novel. I've learnt a number of things and been reminded about family and how important they are to me. Remembering forgiveness and reconciliation as key things for families.

Acceptable Risk, by Lynette Eason, is book two in the Danger Never Sleeps series. Sarah is a military journalist in the Army working in the Middle East when she is taken hostage with a group of girls. She summons help from her father, a high ranking officer, whom she has a strained relationship with. He hired Gavin Black to rescue them. But he also takes it upon himself to have her discharged from the army due to a false psychiatric evaluation and secretly hires Gavin to protect her.Meanwhile, her brother, who was being treated for psychiatric issues, unexpectedly commits suicide. While in the hospital, Sarah over hears a conversation that makes her suspect something is not right. She and her brother Caleb investigate what could be causing so many military suicides.
This is a fast paced, action packed, suspenseful story that takes off running and never stops. While it is part of a series, it is also a great stand alone story. The writing is so clear and descriptive, it is easy to envision the surroundings and the action. This is also a very thought provoking story that made me wonder if some of this could actually be happening. This is also a story that shows how what a person goes through as a child, affects their family relationships as adults. I totally enjoyed this story and would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys crime stories. I received an e-book copy of this story from the publisher through NetGalley. This is my honest review.

Sarah is an accomplished investigative journalist for the army when she is captured along with some of her teens, thousands of miles away from her home. From this point on her life goes through twists and turns, dodging bullets while seeking answers. She is accompanied by Gavin, ex-special forces and now her secret body guard discreetly hired by her father. She has lost a family member, friends, and even a fellow hospital patient. Discharged military vets are committing suicide, including her seemingly better brother. Sarah will let nothing get in the way of finding the truth.

Lynette has done a wonderful job of creating twists and turns, making you guess who is involved, and what the truth really is. I haven't read the first book that is alluded to in this one, but based on this one, I think I will.

I received an ARC copy on Netgalley but i freely give my honest review.

The army was Sarah's life until her father, the general, had her discharged as supposedly suicidal following a kidnapping from which she was rescued by Gavin Black. Some time earlier, the two of them had gone out on three dates, after which Sarah refused to have anything more to do with him, for reasons she never explained. Now back in the States, Gavin is secretly employed by her controlling father to look after her in response to the kidnapping and threats that had been made to him. She's desperate to get her discharge overturned, but in the meantime, strange things are happening, including unexplained veteran suicides. As danger closes in, it's clear that someone doesn't want her to find out the truth and will go to whatever lengths might be necessary to stop her. Will they all get out of the mess alive? And can broken relationships be mended?

This danced close to my eye-roll "what's going to go wrong NEXT", torn between laughing and annoyance rather than getting caught up in the suspense, line - but never quite went over it. While there's a lot going on, it doesn't feel overdone and there are gaps enough in between things that relationships can be shown and grow. Characters to care about, suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat, relationships that change and grow, and a highly satisfying ending - what more could you ask? Recommended.

Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.

I really enjoyed this suspenseful story. I was pleased with the special nuggets of wisdom that I could apply to my life even though I have never been in most of the situations that the main characters find themselves in. Beneath the action and adventure there are wonderful Christian truths that are blended in. I definitely recommend this book and author. Thanks NetGalley for the ARC.

** “And that’s what real strength is. Pressing on when it would be much easier to simply give up.” **

Lynette Eason yet again brings an incredible and intense romantic thriller with “Acceptable Risk,” the story of Army member and investigative journalist Sarah Denning and ex-military and now private contractor Gavin Black.

When Gavin rescues Sarah and a group of kidnapped students in the Middle East, the two find themselves thrown together back in the States to figure out what is happening with veterans who suddenly commit suicide, including Sarah’s brother Dustin.

As they face attempted murders, hostage situations, shootings, kidnappings and plane crashes, they must figure out who is behind the evil deeds, all while working out their feelings for one another.

Eason, as always, does an amazing job of building a plot that races the reader along, filling the story with plenty of twists and turns. She also develops great characters who are all highly relatable with very real doubts, insecurities and flaws.

Besides being a great thriller, “Acceptable Risk” has several other deep themes, like finding forgiveness; learning to trust others; trying to find laughter even when you think you’ll never laugh again; and finding your real strength while pressing on.

Although “Acceptable Risk” could be read as a standalone, I’d highly recommend reading the series’ first story, “Collateral Damage.” Fans of authors like Terri Blackstock and Elizabeth Goddard will enjoy this book.

And please, if you are having feelings of suicide, please reach out for help. Call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255, or visit www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org.

Five stars out of five.

Sarah Denning, military journalist is taken hostage during her tour of the middle east, along with a group of teenaged girls and their teacher. What appears to be a random act is something that turns into something more sinister, following her rescue and trailing her back to the USA.
Gavin – is retired military and the one person who can free Sarah from the terrorist group that holds her. Getting her safely back to the US is his only goal, until Gavin is given information that threatens the lives of Sarah and her military father.
Veterans from Afghanistan are dying and no one knows why. What follows on the pages of Acceptable Risk is a game of high stakes and life or death. Sarah and Gavin are pulled into the world of military secrets, drug development and an experimental drug that leaves a tragic tale behind.
There’s a lot of action and vivid description in this second novel of – series. Characters from the first book have cameos, but it does well as a stand-alone book. Readers are given enough backstory for secondary characters to understand their current roles/relationships.
I was expecting a bit more of a dramatic twist at the end since the first book had done that. This time, it was easy to spot what was making veterans sick and who was responsible, yet none of these details started to be acknowledged by the characters until mid-way through. The ending felt off for some reason, maybe too quick or too easy. Or perhaps I was wanting a shocking moment. I’m not sure what it was, but the finale was a bit of a downer after the fantastic ending of the first book of the series (although I’m not sure any ending would beat that particular one).
There was a small spiritual thread running through the book, though it wasn’t as prominent as the international problem the hero and heroine were trying to solve.
All in all, it was an enjoyable read.

Acceptable Risk by Lynette Eason is the second book in the Danger Never Sleeps series. Let me just tell you now, you won't sleep either. At least until you finish the book. It's one of those "I can't stop reading" books.

From the very first page the mystery and suspense begins. It starts when Sarah, a military journalist is kidnapped. Sarah is injured during the rescue and now she is back in the states where she finds out her father, who is a General, has ruined her career in his own feeble attempt to keep her safe. What she doesn't know is that he has hired Gavin Black to protect her. Gavin is just glad Sarah is safe and wants to protect her anyway so he agrees to the General's request.

Sarah learns that her brother who was suffering PTSD has committed suicide. She also learns that several Army Veterans have committed suicide and she wants to find out why. Is there more to this? Was it really suicide? It seems that danger lurks around every corner and could it be that someone wants Sarah dead as well?

There are so many great characters in this book. Sarah and her dad are both so much alike and both complex characters. Gavin was my favorite character and his intense loyalty to Sarah was an endearing quality.

This is a fast read as it has page turning suspense that keeps you going until the last page. If you are a fan of Christian Suspense novels this will be one you won't want to pass up. Lynette Eason is one of my favorite suspense writers and this book is my favorite of hers to date.

***Thanks to Netgalley and Revell for providing me with a copy of this book. All opinions in this review are my own.

Highly recommended. The mystery was well done and fast-paced but not too much that the characters got lost in the action.

Lynette Eason's latest book, Acceptable Risk, is yet again a tale full of action from page one. Sarah Denning is a military journalist working in the Middle East, when she is kidnapped along with a group of young girls. Gavin Black, a former Army Ranger, is called in to attempt a rescue. After Sarah is successfully returned to her home in the states, not only will she have to deal with emotional hurts from her past, but danger seems to have followed her home, as well!

Gavin and Sarah had previously met in their time overseas. So it seems that their reconnection may lead to something more. When Sarah's father receives threats on his life, he hires Gavin to keep Sarah protected. Now, you know for sure that things may soon change!

As Gavin and Sarah seem to be finding danger at every turn, it is interesting trying to put all the pieces of this tale together. Hold tight as you wait to see if the pieces finally fall into place!

Super engaging, action-packed, and a book I couldn't put down! I love all of Eason's previous books and this one was just as exceptional. Lots of drama, a predictable romance (but who doesn't love when the main character falls in love with her bodyguard!), and super unrealistic events that make you thankful for your own uneventful life! But the fact that you kind of knew what was going to happen, there were enough twists and surprises that made it very enjoyable! Highly recommended!
