Acceptable Risk by Lynette Eason

Drug Trials are they an acceptable risk for humans? Would you be willing to do one and be that human guinea pig? I personally have a medial disability and in knowing that I have no cure and the odds for ever having one is slim to none, I would probably take my chances at trying any that ever come my one knowing that the outcome could put me in a worse position or possible death, but my prognosis now is not all that great either for the future. However, in the book, what the people did are even more unforgivable because it was for greed. They committed outright murder for what they claimed in the name of science, but it was for greenback.
Sarah had a tumultuous relationship with her Army General father because of what she thought was the lack of love and empathy on her dads side for her mothers death. Her father thought his daughter had a death wish by signing up for every combat investigative tour in Afghanistan and he wanted her out of there so he used money and coercion to get her discharged. Her old flame Gavin still had the hots for her and refused to leave her side wanted to make sure that whoever was trying to kill the General was not trying to use her to get at him by harming her.Her one brother committed suicide and it freaked the family out because it shocked them because the sister had no clue he was having suicidal issues. The father knew he was having some problems and that he had been having some issues in the past with depression, but nothing to this degree. The brother who was the most familiar with the situation was caught totally unawares and was just flummoxed about the suicide. There was so many subplots in this but in the end they were all tied together and it all made sense in the end but that would be giving up a spoiler.
I thought at first this was a action adventure book, but it ended up being more of a drama with action within the drama but overall the book was a very good read, but at times it was slow and the author could have picked up the pace or added romance to add zing maybe to tone down the drama or kick up the action a little because it lagged at times. Other than that the characters of Sarah and Gavin were good, I wish the brother Caden could have been spiced up little maybe that is where it could have zipped up the storyline. Is part seemed to be dulled and he was like just thrown in as doing menial paperwork jobs and no actual performance.

Acceptable Risk, the second installment in award winning author Lynette Eason’s Danger Never Sleeps series, is an action-packed romantic suspense novel that will keep readers highly invested in the storyline until the very end. Acceptable Risk can be easily read and enjoyed as a standalone novel.

After military journalist Sarah Denning is successfully rescued from a hostage situation in Afghanistan by former Army Ranger Gavin Black and his team, danger continues to follow them home to the States. When looking into her brother’s shocking suicide, things aren’t as they seem, and Sarah and Gavin’s lives are once again in extreme danger.

Lynette Eason has been a longtime favorite romantic suspense author of mine. Readers who enjoy a lot of fast paced action will love this novel, along with the light romantic thread included in the storyline. Romantic suspense is my favorite genre to read and my most-read genre, so I have been looking forward to this book for awhile. Even though I was able to figure out the perpetrator early on in the book, that did not take away my enjoyment of the novel. Now I can’t wait for Active Defense (book 3 in the Danger Never Sleeps series) to release in January 2021.

Acceptable Risk is highly recommended for readers of romantic suspense, especially those who enjoy books by authors such as Dani Pettrey, Lynn H. Blackburn, Rachel Dylan, and Irene Hannon.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.

Acceptable Risk, the second in the Danger Never Sleeps series, is another edgy, action packed suspense with realistic, likable characters, danger, and a mystery to solve. As the story starts, Sarah Denning, a military journalist with the Army, is in the Middle East when she is kidnapped along with some Afghani girls. Her father, Lieutenant General Lewis Denning hires former Army Ranger, Gavin Black, and his team of contractors to go in and get Sarah out. Now, Sarah is back in South Carolina and discharged, thanks to her dad. Gavin and Sarah went on a few dates before Sarah decided to call it off a while back and he is friends with her brother Caden, a federal agent. The General, secretly hires Gavin to keep her safe because he has had threats that may have put Sarah in danger. With the friendship background, it is easy for Gavin to hang around. About the same time as all this is going down with Sarah, her younger brother Dustin commits suicide. He is also in the Army but is stateside dealing with PTSD, actually doing better when he kills himself. And he isn't the only one. A pattern appears of soldiers who served in Afghanistan and witnessed an orphanage bombing that caused severe psychiatric issues. Most are doing better when they commit suicide. While Sarah's life continues to be in danger, she, Gavin, Caden, and others work to find answers. The VA hospital where Sarah recovered when back stateside has some weird things going on so that is where the search begins. This is mystery with twists and turns, danger, relationship issues, romantic attraction, and light faith. A great addition to the series and highly recommended read. I don't think that you have to read the prior one first but I like to read books in order.
I received a complimentary ARC from Revell Publishing through NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine only.

Sarah Denning is an investigative journalist in the Army. She's been kidnapped in the middle east and Gavin Black has been asked to go in and rescue her. Now stateside Sarah is recuperating from her harrowing experience and thrown into more danger.

When Sarah starts investigating her brothers suicide and also a patient she met in the hospital she is once again thrown into danger. Her father has hired Gavin to protect her but there is no way she can know this. The General and Sarah are not on speaking terms, in fact Sarah has done everything she can to distance herself from him and his influence. What will she do when she finds out that Gavin has been hired by the man she despises?

Fast paced, exciting, suspenseful. I loved every bit of it! Sarah was strong-willed to the point of being too reckless, but Gavin was able to protect her without stepping too much on her toes and her will. I liked Gavin as the hero, he was strong but also smart enough to not be too dictatorial to Sarah as her father was. I liked that Sarah was able to mature by the end and see a different side of her father. A very satisfying read that had me sitting for a few minutes calming my heart by the end!

#Acceptable Risk# is the second book in the Danger Never Sleeps series by Lynette Eason. Lynette is a best selling author. Her books have won the Selah, Carol,Daphne, IRCC Awards and more. The book is a suspense, thriller and romance book. The setting is the Middle East and the United States. Sarah Denning is a military journalist . She moves from one suspense to the next. Sarah is a wonderful character. She always wants the best for those around her. She is concerned when she thinks something is not right and continues to pursue and investigate until she gets to the bottom of things. The complexity of the story keeps coming minute by minute until the story is done. The story leads the reader beyond what they expect and will have a hard time putting the book down. The story is well written. Each character is well described. The reader will always wonder what is ahead of the bend since more is always coming. Thank you to the author, the publisher, netgalley for allowing me to read and review this book. I hope this book is really successful.

Eason is one of my favorite authors. I have loved every book I’ve ever read by her. This one was no different. The characters are flawed but relatable. There’s a mystery to solve; some twists and turns along the way; and a ton of action, danger, and suspense.

Sarah Denning ends up returning from Afghanistan in less than ideal circumstances. Things go from bad to worse as she finds herself in danger in the States. She’s irate with her father; grieving the loss of a loved one; confused by her memories; haunted by nightmares. And to top it off, the man she “ghosted” is back in her life. But what to do with him now? She’s got so much going on physically and mentally. It’s amazing that she can keep functioning.

When I read books like this one, it makes me question big companies and their motivation. Do companies like this really exist? Are there big secrets being covered up? It makes one wonder.

I’d highly recommend this book. It’s hard to put down. The suspense is gripping. I’m looking forward to the next book in the “Danger Never Sleeps” series.

Thank you to Revell for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Cool characters, cool plot I mean what's not in this book for readers not love? I loved everything about this book.
In my opinion, this is Lynette Eason's best yet and you'll not be disappointed! I sure wasn't.
Sarah and Gavin are excellent characters! Even the villains are well rounded out and made this story a sit on the edge of your set moments.
We also get to take a look at what PTSD might mean for our characters. I can't imagine what that must be like and for those reasons alone it make me respect the Army folks even more! Whenever I see someone that is in our Army I always like to say Thank you for your service because we have absolutely no idea what they seen and heard.
So buckle up folks because you are going on a wild roller coaster ride and you'll probably not put this book down until you are done. And, one thing I will tell you this book will leave you thinking, pondering or whatever the case it.
I just can't say enough about what a fabulous read this was! Oh my
I happily give this book 5 stars wishing I could give it more!
I highly recommend this book.
My thanks to Netgalley and Revell Publishings for a complimentary copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review for this book. All opinions are my own.

What a ride! Lynette Eason is one of the top suspense authors in today's marketplace, and her newest book tops my list of favorites. So much else I could say, but I don't want to spoil anything for a new reader--just know it's a fast paced story that never lets up until the final page.

This book starts of with a high amount of shock factor! I was speechless for the first two chapters as the events were so surprising that I really was hooked. Acceptable Risk has an intriguing plot and a lot of suspenseful, dangerous moments that will keep the reader on their toes. I didn’t particularly connect with the characters in this book. Gavin just seemed to be along for the ride and Sarah was really blunt and negative for a lot of this story. The romance in this book was minimal. I would have preferred more of a connection with the characters and more time building a relationship in order to believe that that were actually interested in each other. It was also a bit hard to grasp that this investigative reporter and a former special forces guy were able to run their own investigation and ultimately solve it instead of the local authorities assigned to the case. I kept wondering where the officials were, they seemed to show up after things had gone wrong to take notes. Overall I was entertained by this book and enjoyed parts of it a lot. I just wanted a bit more from the characters.

Suspense I couldn't put down! Sarah has to solve the mystery of her brother's death in order to keep herself alive. Veterans across the nation are committing suicide, and Sarah is convinced something is up. But at first, she just looks like a grieving sister refusing to accept that her brother was actually suicidal.

I did spot the bad guy as soon as s/he made an appearance, but I defy anyone else to figure that out unless they too have read around 40 Eason novels as I have. But I didn't figure out the motivation for them to go after Sarah until late in the book.

While I loved getting to know Sarah and enjoyed her as the prime MC, I would have liked knowing Gavin just a bit more (come on, publisher, we definitely needed this book to pass 400 pages). I wouldn't like to give up any of the focus on Sarah--just make the book longer and get more Gavin.

What bugged me most, though, was the inclusion of two profane phrases, which lowered my rating by one star. There wasn't a lot of spiritual content to begin with, and then to show characters taking God lightly meant my teeth went on edge a bit. I will never understand why it's okay to 'swear by all that's sacred' or to call a place 'Godforsaken' because God is everywhere.

Thanks to the publisher for a free reading copy. A favorable review was not required.

They say the journey is half the fun and this is true for this book. While I figured out pretty early what was going on, it was interesting reading the layers that the author added which created depth and texture to the story.

This is a second book in the series but is standalone. You don't learn much about the first book through the events of it but it's nice to revisit "old friends". I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

If you enjoy Irene Hannon, Elizabeth Goddard, Lisa Harris, Lisa Philips or Susan Sleeman - This is definitely the kind of book you will enjoy. While I got this in exchange for a review, It is a book I would have purchased for myself or for the library as it will satisfy the reader.
