Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

Gregg Olsen's novels are always a great read. " Water's Edge" is no different. The main character Detective Megan Carpenter is deep and intriguing. I read this novel deep into the night, because I knew there is always a twist at the end. I loved the story of this novel.

This is the second book in the Detective Megan Carpenter series and it did not disappoint. It follows on nicely from the first book delving into the characters further whilst un puzzling the latest scene of the crime

The cliffhanger that book 1 ended on made me so excited to read this one, but honestly I should have DNFed this book 40% in. The main character Megan has a mysterious past that I am guessing is meant to draw us in but all it did for me was make me hate her even more. Maybe I waited too long to read this one but I honestly forgot most of her back story and by the time I remembered I no longer cared.

Megan is on the case to solve the murder of a local woman which turns into multiple murders over three counties. Megan treats every person she comes into contact with like they are inferior to her massive intelligence( the author tells us at least 10 times that Megan has a photographic memory since apparently we as reads have no memory). She bullies her way through life and then blames it all on her "terrible childhood". Honestly by the end of the book I was rooting FOR the serial killer to get her.

Which leads us to the actual killers. After spending an entire book trying to solve the murders, when the suspect is finally caught, there is absolutely no explanations of why the killings were done. It made not sense and it felt so unresolved.

Now I know I am in the minority in not liking this book so it may just be that I read this one at a bad time so make sure to read some of the other glowing reviews on here.

Megan Carpenter isn't like any other detective I've ever read about. She does what she wants, lies and nobody knows what she's really thinking. She gets the job done. Throughout the whole book I wasn't sure if I liked her or if she's just annoying. But the story was really good and I liked Ronnie a lot. Hopefully she will be back in the next book. The suspense was building up to a big finale and it came with a bang. Then the killer was not the one I thought it would be. I was sure I had it right, but it was a pleasant surprise.

I enjoyed this book. I have not read book one. I like the character of Megan. I think the story line was enjoyable and I do like a good serial killer book. I think I would read more from this author in the future. I may looking into book one as well. *This book was given to me for free at my request from NetGalley and I provided this voluntary review.*

I have not had a chance to read book one in this series and likely will not have time to provide a timely review. I love Gregg Olsen and am certain that this is excellent.

Leann Truitt's body is found in a secluded cove in Mystery Bay and next to her body lies a puzzling clue – an unusual symbol scratched into a rock.

Detective Megan Carpenter along with rookie Deputy Ronnie Marsh starts investigation, and before long she makes a chilling link between Leann’s brutal killing and the unsolved murder of 2 other women - all redheads with the same marks on their bodies and the same symbol carvings found at the crime scenes, and most shockingly, all pregnant.

This was absolutely gripping and addictive thriller, fast-paced with very likeable characters. This is the 2nd book in this series, and I'll be surely checking out book 1. I loved this book and I give it 4.5 stars. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher, Bookouture, for providing me with an ARC of this book.

This was a really interesting read. While psychological crime and murder books can be similar, there was a lot in this that made me think. The relationships were well developed and the subplots and histories of the main character were tied in beautifully. The ending was keeping me guessing as the twist at the end was not expected. I definitely want to read more. Nice to see a female lead who is strong but damaged, vulnerable and damaged but wanting and needing to heal. There is a lesson to us all. Well worth a read.

Megan Carpenter is flawed, but believable and you find yourself rooting for her through the book.

I didn't really like the first in the series, but this one exceed my expectations and left me pleasantly surprised and anticipating the third in the series!

Thank you to Netgalley, publisher and author for a copy of this book

Water's Edge is the second book in the Detective Megan Carpenter series by Gregg Olsen.

Detective Megan Carpenter, from Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is called to investigate when a woman, later identified as Leann Truitt, is found in a cove on Mystery Bay. There are obvious clues that the victim had been bound and an odd symbol had been carved into the rock next to the body. With newbie Reserve Deputy Ronnie Marsh as her sidekick, Megan has an intuition that redhead Leann is not the killer's first victim. But then another body is found and Megan and Ronnie begin a chase that must be concluded quickly, before any more women are murdered by the elusive killer.

The characters were compelling as well as memorable and Megan was definitely someone I wanted to cheer for. Her character felt genuine, though flawed and I liked her for her determination and gutsiness. The supporting characters were all well-rounded, their relationships very believable. Water's Edge was a fast-paced, action packed, page turner and I loved that Megan's personal life had a bearing on her professional one.

Although Water's Edge is the second instalment in the series, it was easily read as a standalone. Full of little gems that refine a solid plot, the ending was explosive and unexpected. I have been inspired to read the series opener, Snow Creek, as well as excitedly anticipating book three.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Bookouture via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

In Water's Edge, we are reunited with Detective Megan Carpenter. When the body of Leann Truitt is found in a cove in Mystery Bay, Detective Megan Carpenter is one of the first on the scene. With rookie Deputy Ronnie Marsh under her wing, Megan starts to receive disturbing messages. Someone knows about her traumatic past. Megan and Ronnie work together to connect Leann’s killing and the unsolved murder cases of two other women.
When the body of another woman is found bearing a striking resemblance to the other victims, Megan must figure out the mystery of the murders and catch the killer before he strikes again. Someone is watching her every move and knows Megan's secrets of her past. I am a big fan of this series and look forward to other Carpenter books.

Another Gregg Olsen book....yes, please. Gregg Olsen's writing skills just keep getting sharper. I've read many of his books and always found them to be excellent reads. Whether fiction or nonfiction....IF YOU TELL was brilliant....Mr Olsen keeps readers engrossed in the story, each page better than the one before. You do not set his books down and come back to them, you read them in one sitting.
Water's Edge is the second in the Detective Megan Carpenter series. It is a good book as a stand alone, but you'll miss some of the back story clues if you did not read the first one. Det Carpenter is investigating the death of a woman found with signs of extreme trauma. As she starts digging into the crime, she'll find this is not the first woman killed in this manner. With a newly assigned partner to train and a serial killer in her sights, the tension builds and the story rushes to some unsettling results. WATER'S EDGE continues the excellent tradition of murder mystery and thrillers that we have come to expect from Gregg Olsen. Add to your TBR pile today.
