Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. Did not realise that this was book 2 and wish (in a way) had read book 1 but saying that I quite enjoyed it, liked the characters and also liked the storyline.

I love Megan Carpenter!! In Water's Edge by Gregg Olsen, Megan is thrust into another mystery... however, much to her chagrin, she also has a reserve deputy, Ronnie Marsh, by her side throughout it... and Megan debates throughout the novel whether this is a good or bad thing. Megan is tough, flawed, so so so smart, and wickedly funny. The mystery is solid and strong... going through scenic Washington and working a multi-jurisdictional case, Megan, Ronnie, and a deep supporting cast know they need to find some answers soon. It's a wonderful book that I could not put down. And, where the book ends... I cannot wait to see where Mr. Olsen picks up with Megan's tale. Thank you!

Good police procedural book. Megan has a lot in her past and likes to work alone but ends up with a partner. A serial killer is killing women, which reminds Megan of her past in many ways. Good charcters. Looking forward to another one in this series.

Book two in the Detective Megan Carpenter series and I am loving it. Megan is one ballsy detective, ruthless when it comes to culprits and will fight tooth and nail for her victims. Known to break the rules with a tough outer shell with a heart of marshmallow. I love this character and this author's storytelling which kept me reading late into the night. This series just keeps getting better and better and has definitely left me wanting more. A well deserved five stars and a fantastic addition to a gripping and very addictive series.

Good book, and an interesting mystery. I enjoyed the rapport between Megan and Ronnie-girl power! I like Gregg Olsen's writing and look forward to the next Megan Carpenter adventure.

I’m a big fan of this author and I like this character for the most part. She can get a bit annoying but she’s believable and interesting. This was a good mystery that kept me guessing and the ending was great! Thank you NetGalley for the advanced readers copy for review.

When the body of a young woman is found on an isolated beach Detective Megan Carpenter is assigned the case. She is also assigned a partner, Reserve Deputy Ronnie Marsh, and Megan works alone! It soon becomes clear the victim is one of three; there is a serial killer on the loose and time is of the essence.

While working the case Megan is still making her way through the tapes given to her by her college therapist, finding out more about herself and why she sees the world the way she does. She also thinks she has a stalker, she has never seen anyone but they still make contact and know far too much about her.

Once again Gregg Olsen delivers a crime mystery which draws you in, lays the clues out and then leaves you to flounder. I guessed one bit, hoped I was right on another, and missed the mark totally on the rest! The story flows, the tension, as is key in all Mr Olsen's work, increases pretty much without fanfare, and everything comes together as you realise danger is everywhere and maybe both you and Megan missed something vital.

There are still things left to be discovered about Megan and her past, her family, and why she behaves as she does. A loner because of fear, a cop because of a need to prevent history ever repeating itself and a deep thinker because who could she ever share any of this with, her way of being is hard to take sometimes. By writing in the first person however, the author gives the reader the privilege of moving through each chapter with Megan to witness the changes even she isn't aware of yet. It is very cleverly and satisfyingly right; I want to know what happens next and I am absolutely sure I will be surprised, dismayed, and cheering her on, every step of the way.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this thanks to NetGalley and the publishers in exchange for an unbiased review and would recommend it to anyone who read and enjoyed the first book. If you want first class, character driven crime fiction this is also the book and author for you as Mr Olsen is one of the best writers in this genre at present.

In the beginning of Water's Edge, I really loved Megan's sarcasm and demeanor, but then it got tiresome, and some of the male characters came across like 1970s character cutouts and not likable. It also found myself tiring on the character interactions around the 55% mark and just wanted the story to end. It seemed like the storyline plodded along to get to the exciting ending, but I did find myself not caring who the killer could be.

I felt like the author was hitting me over the head that the main character, Megan, had issues with her brother and also that she had an eidetic memory and did not need to write things down to remember details.

I also did not enjoy the main character revealing her life story through tapes she had of her therapy sessions. It disrupted the flow of the mystery for me.

I've read other Gregg Olsen books and have enjoyed his other series. I will read more of his work, but Water's Edge missed the mark for me.

This book was great. I don’t usually like detective books but I really enjoyed this one. Macon was likable but flawed, and her relationship with Ronnie was well written. I had a feeling I knew who the bad guy was many times! Then found out I was wrong. Really enjoyable read! Thanks netgalley!

I enjoyed reading this book. It had a good story to it. I liked the variety of characters in it. It was a well written book. I hope to read more books by this author.

This is a fantastic book with an excellent story, well written and with great characters. Normally, I'm not too fond of hearing a lot from the main character's personal life, but here it's a separate story showing why she is the way she is, and it's very interesting. I'm looking forward to the next one!

Megan Carpenter is my kind of detective. No nonsense, intelligent, and outwardly professional while constantly rolling her eyes at the less competent men above her. I was a little worried at the initial premise of the book: woman found murdered after being tortured and restrained near a satanic symbol carved into a rock. Before I could even inwardly groan “oh god, not the whole cliche Satanist serial killer thing,” it became clear that this wasn’t going to be that kind of novel. (Side note: during my years as a prosecutor, the number of Satanic crimes both I and my colleagues combined prosecuted topped out at exactly zero.)

That little pet peeve aside, I really enjoyed Detective Carpenter, who reminds me a bit of Debra on Dexter. This is a solid mystery/police procedural with a very likable and smart lead detective who has a great running inner monologue. The novel moves at a brisk pace and is a realistic police procedural. Gregg Olsen has done his research and has written a great detective story. While this was my first Detective Carpenter novel, it won’t be my last.

I love, love, love Detective Megan Carpenter, a tough, thorough, no-nonsense type of detective even though she is dealing with a lot of issues in her personal life. She is paired up with Reserve Deputy Ronnie Marsh who she will be training for a while. A female body is found and they are sent to investigate it. Just as they are getting into this murder investigation, another female body is discovered. They decide to contact neighboring law enforcement agencies to see if they have any similar unsolved cases and they discover they do. All the murdered women had many similarities so there are a lot of surprises in this book. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this very interesting book that kept me on the edge of my seat in exchange for an honest review. I am looking forward to book 3 in the Detective Megan Carpenter series.

Water’s Edge is a sequel to Snow Creek although you don’t really have to read it first. I do think you will understand Det. Megan Carpenter more if you read them in order. While I like the series, it is taking such a long time to learn Megan’s secrets. This was a complex and compelling mystery with a strong female lead character. I have read the previous in the series and enjoyed this continuation very much.

Megan Carpenter is one tough cookie. She is the queen of ruthlessness when it comes to culprits, but she fights with all she has for 'her' victims. 

Playing by the rules? Well, yes but not very often. She makes her own rules, she twists the truth every once in a while (ahum ;) ), but she always does it for a good cause : giving the killers she believes they deserve.

I just love the way the author has created her character. She is made out of steel on the outside, but very damaged on the inside and that what has made her who she is today. I just cannot resist opening my heart to her. 

The author has a great writing style that makes it impossible to put the book down. He also adds some humour in it. It's fun to read what Megan says, but also what she thinks at the same time. It made me snigger rather often. :)

What more can I say? It's an great book by a great author. I am looking forward to new adventures and to more details being revealed from the past of the main character. 5 stars

Megan Carpenter doesn’t want a partner. But she’s been saddled with a newbie deputy, complete with power suit and high heels. But she does have her uses. Megan has also caught a dead body left poised by the water’s edge of an isolated cove. A murder that has similarities to other cases in nearby counties.
The book not only gives us Megan’s chapters, but an unknown victim’s as well.
I had enjoyed the first book in the series and this one continued the trend. I love Megan’s way of looking at the world. Her powers of observation and her way of describing people and things really worked for me. We also continue to learn more about Megan’s backstory and what shaped her.
The story moves along at a fairly rapid pace. Short chapters. It’s a nice straightforward police procedural with several twists, turns and red herrings.

Enjoyed this one much more than book 1. Megan is really starting to come into her own. Love how she is evolving and can’t wait to see what happens next, especially with the arrival of a not so new person in her life. This is shaping up to be a really exciting series.
