I enjoyed this more than the first book, because grief was not a main theme. I enjoyed the story. I loved the small town setting. Though got a bit frustrated with Sydney. There were so many misunderstandings between her and Nate, and she just kept pushing him away.

I've been a bit spoiled recently and have read some incredibly powerful or moving books. Sometimes though you don't want to be challenged or stretched you just want to escape and when you feel like that Jenny Hale's books are a perfect escape. This story carries on from earlier book Summer at Firefly Beach but its not essential that you read that first and it works perfectly well as a standalone.

Sydney Flynn has moved back to her childhood home. Her marriage has fallen apart and needing good role models for her young son she has chosen to be back amongst friends and family. Starlight Cottage is a safe place and associated with so many wonderful memories growing up but some of these are laced with pain especially where Nate Henderson is concerned. As a teenager she was convinced that their happy ever after was being together, right up until Nate broke her heart. So when she sees him amongst the wedding guests at her sister's wedding there is a real conflict of emotions.

Nate has spent the past ten years regretting his actions of ten years and it is time to explain to Sydney what he did and why but when Sydney chooses not to listen to him it proves more difficult than he thought. The House on Firefly Beach is a sweet uncomplicated kind of story. The sort of thing that in a previous life I would have curled up with on a holiday sunlounger by a pool. I did predict the vast majority of the plot twists and the reveals but that's not always such a bad thing and the characters were interesting enough to keep me reading.

A fun, easy summer read. When Nate Henderson shows up at Sydney's sister's wedding, her world starts to spin. Nate left her after being together for four years and never looked back. Now he is back in Firefly Beach hanging around her family like nothing ever happened. Why is Nate really back in Firefly Beach?

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review.

I found this book to a nice, light summer read. I think that it was a bit predictable, but I did enjoy reading it. I connected with the characters and enjoyed how the author describes Firefly Beach!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced digital copy of this book!

Welcome back to Firefly Beach! I adored the first book in the Firefly Beach series and couldn’t wait to see what was in store for Sydney in this instalment.

Sydney is divorced with an eight year old son. They’ve been living at their family home in Firefly Beach with Sydney’s mom, uncle, and sister while they restore the home.

The story begins with Sydney’s sister, Hallie, getting married. Sydney’s ex-boyfriend is invited and thus begins her internal struggle to make sure her heart doesn’t get broken again.

I adored the story of Sydney and Nate. What a great summer read. Firefly Beach is the quaint town where I would love to live. The people are genuine, the scenery is relaxing. I can’t wait to go back to Firefly Beach in the future.

A sappy love story and I loved every minute of it!

This is the 2nd book in The firefly Beach series, but the first for me. I didn't feel I was missing out on anything by starting on book 2.

This a perfect light summer romance. Boy and girl fall in love, break up and fight against their lingering feelings years later. In this book, Sydney and Nate were lovers throughout college, and eventually parted ways. This book picks back up about 10 years later. You get glimpses of their past together as they learn to interact with each other again. You also get to know some of their family members. Overall, the characters were well developed and likable. This was a perfect romance, a little predictable and sappy, but I love sappy.

I very much enjoyed this story and will definitely go back and read the first book in the series.

The House on Firefly Beach was a feel good, easy, summer read that left me longing for the beach. It had enough angst to keep me reading and I appreciated the clean writing. This book is a no brainer for your next light and fun beach read.

This is my second Jenny Hale book and I think that maybe she’s just not the author for me. I find myself waiting and waiting for something interesting to happen and always feel let down with the lack of excitement going on in the story. Unfortunately I didn’t connect to the characters in this story at all and didn’t feel the chemistry between the main love interests.

Having read the first book from Firefly Beach I couldn’t wait to read this one and I wasn’t disappointed. It would be easy to read as a standalone as well.

It is such a sweet feel-good story with characters that are easy to connect with and relate to. I was drawn in from the beginning wanting to know what happened with Sydney and Nate. As with all Jenny’s books it is easy to follow and escape into. I was transported straight on to the beach, I could almost feel the sand in my toes.

I loved how not only could I relate to Sydney but I felt sympathetic towards Nate. Whenever he wanted to talk to her and Sydney wouldn’t let him I got frustrated with her. The characters are all relatable in one way or another whether you know someone like Sydney or Nate or even Uncle Hank. They are all so lovable and you really get the sense of a close family leaping out from the pages. The descriptions are amazing at being able to evoke feel-good feelings and time spent at the beach as well as being young, care free and wistful about the one that might have got away.

The story flowed and was so easy to read I devoured it the day I started it within a matter of hours. I didn’t want to put it down. Firefly Beach is now one of the places I would love to go. The story and descriptive narration bring your sense alive and make you think you are there.

It isn’t all just heartbreak and love hearts though there are the tense moments about a new development plan in the area and bitter sweet what if moments that you get from the characters throughout. There’s just enough to make you wonder, is it going to work out?

If you like romance, want an escapist feel-good beach read this is definitely the book for you. It will not disappoint.

I always know if the author is Jenny Hale it is a must read that won’t disappoint. A firm favourite author always at the top of the tbr pile!

A very typical romance theme: young couple breaks up, decades pass, then are reunited. One has become famous, the other still hurting from the breakup. All set on the Florida Gulf coast. If you're into this sort of romance, it's a good one. It was a bit too predictable for me, but that's typical of this sort of storyline.

A great romance! It's a great read for the summertime. It's a sequel to Summer on Firefly Beach- after reading the first book, I was more than ready to read the second one. Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC to review in exchange for my honest opinion.

If you are looking for a summer romance type book this is the book for you. I absolutely loved this book. This was very well written and made you feel you were part of the book. In Firefly Beach, there is an old cottage where Sydney lives with her son and uncle. She’s divorced, looking at a career change, and celebrating her sister’s marriage. At the wedding, her ex-boyfriend Nate shows up. He wants to talk and explain why he left so many years ago, left her behind.

Sydney spends the book pushing Nate away, reuniting with old friends, and finding out what family means to her. I liked Sydney, though I really wish she would communicate better. I understand that it moves the plot along better, but so many things would be easier.

Overall a good book. It was easy to read and made me smile a lot.

The House on Firefly Beach is the second book in the Firefly Beach series by Jenny Hale. I read the first installment last year and I remember that I was completely enchanted by the storyline, the setting and the characters. So I was excited to read this new book (which can absolutely be read as a standalone, in case you’re wondering). I really liked the character of Sydney. She’s deeply conflicted by the return of her former sweetheart, Nate. You really get a sense of the confusion, frustration and secret hope for reconciliation she’s feeling. I thought it was a touching romance with mature characters. I think it’s refreshing to have such grownup characters with much baggage, instead of the regular lightweight romance with younger people. It has a lot of substance and makes for an interesting plot. Unlike the first book, the beautiful setting of Firefly Beach isn’t as present, but it allows for more space for the deep issues Sydney and Nate have to overcome. I really enjoyed this feel-good read and I hope there’ll be a third one. Do Sydney and Hallie have a third sister to make it a Charmed trio? 😉 One can only hope.

If you enjoy TV shows like Chesapeake Shores with lots of family drama and derailed romance all set in a magical place near the seaside, then you’ll have a lovely time reading this novel. You really get to see the movie in your mind as you go from one chapter to the next.

Sydney Flynn had love once. Maybe he wasn't her soul mate, but she was happy enough and was blessed to have a son. Now it is time for her to get her life back on track. She is even more blessed to have a place she can call a sanctuary, Starlight Cottage, willed to by her Aunt Clara, so it is back to Firefly Beach with eight-year-old son Robby.

In the first book in this series, Summer on Firefly Beach, Sydney's sister Hallie was blessed by their dear aunt, and along the way found her true love, Ben. It is at Hallie and Ben's wedding when she makes incredibly intense eye contact with Nate Henderson, the man that was undeniably the true love of her life.

Sydney and Nate were in love when they were teens, but they ended up taking different paths in life - Nate to Nashville where he became a highly successful music producer. Sydney followed her passion and became a professional journalist. The pair had a wonderful relationship for several years. Now that the couple are around one another again, is there a chance to start over?

For one thing, Sydney has Robby to think of. She must consider him, not just her heart, and if she would admit it, she is sure she could fall for Nate all over again. However, there are conflicts that the couple must contend with, so the road to love and happiness might be challenging.

I so love the little village of Firefly Beach with its lovely residents. It is nice to pick up a book like this where the characters warm your heart. There is more than a bit of angst with the book and this rounds the story up nicely. I loved Robby and really felt for him as he dealt with his father's loss, and the bonus of Nate developing a relationship with him was something very touching. Then there is Uncle Hank, and his sadness after losing his beloved Clara. Sydney's love and dedication to Uncle Hank was palpable.

This lovely story was compelling from page one and carried straight through to a wonderful conclusion. So, for the perfect summer read, I would say go and grab this book - and its prequel - at the first opportunity. I really hope there are more books in this series.

This was one of my first experiences with 'woman's fiction' and I am thoroughly impressed. A novel about how the main character Sydney is trying to find herself again as a writer after her husband leaves her and her aunt Clara passes away, she needs to support herself and her son Robby. Sydney has had a rough go at life lately, but it's heightened by the fact that Nate who she thought she was going to marry back in college, is back at Firefly Beach with no intention to leave.
It was a light and fun beach read considering the fact that it was set near the beach, I found the description of the setting to be enjoyable and it made me want to visit the coasts and lie on the beach with a summer drink.
I found there to be just enough angst from Nate to be the perfect love interest. Sydney, on the other hand, I had a harder time with, although I loved her character, her one major character flaw was that she doesn't communicate how she feels to Nate and instead assumes on thing after another about him and his life instead of asking. granted this is the factor that moves the plot forward but on multiple occasions I found myself annoyed with Sydney for just assuming anything when it has to do with Nate instead of being an adult and asking him. This was my one gripe with this book.
Overall I enjoyed the book and will probably read anything by Jenny Hale in the future

Still reeling from the loss of her aunt Clara, and helping Uncle Hank with his depression while trying to find her ‘next chapter’, Sydney is thrown into tumult when she comes face to face with Nate, the boy who left without a word or explanation many years ago. He’s in town staying with her best friend and his sister Mallory, with a supermodel in tow, to attend Hallie’s wedding. And Sydney has no interest in hearing anything he has to say after making a name for himself in songwriting.

There’s so much to unpack with this story: from the struggles with grief and unfinished business between Nate and Sydney, Sydney’s lack of confidence in her own abilities, her desperation to protect her son from getting hurt, the questions continue to arrive and haunt her. Slowly but surely opportunities arrive for Syd, opportunities that she dives into with both feet – and succeeds. Despite her own fears about not being ‘enough’, while the question about Nate leaving so many years ago linger.

With heart and plenty of time, some obsessions from Sydney and several grand gestures from Nate that show his heart, and the explanations of why he left all those years ago, the story is easy to follow and you’ll find yourself invested in their story and relationship, all the while hoping Sydney will see what’s in front of her. Often. Hale manages to provide a sense of reality and plausibility for the many issues that arise from grief and anger, to self-esteem that’s been dinged, and even the desire to protect and provide for her son. With heart, a threat that is bigger than them all to the cottage where memories have provided the touchstone for the family and lots of love and acceptance, the story is a great read and sure to please many.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I finished it in two days. After four years together, Nate suddenly broke up with Sydney and gave no explanation. Fast forward and Sydney is now divorced, with a child, and unemployed. The book is set at Firefly Beach and Sydney is staying with her uncle at the Starlight Cottage. Nate has returned and is trying to win Sydney's heart again.

Almost the entire book the reader wonders why Nate left and is Sydney able to change her mind about him. The characters were likable, the setting was fun...definitely a summer read. You could feel the chemistry between the two main characters even after all the years apart. There were some flashbacks of when Sydney when Nate were together so you could understand how much they loved each other. There were some parts that I skimmed as found them to be a little boring. I didn't love the supermodel story line either. But overall this was a good read!

A second chance romance! Sydney is the divorced single mom of Robby. Back at Starlight Cottage, she's starting to heal and then- pow- she sees Nate at her sister's wedding. She loved him, he left her and took some of her spark with him. Now, he's changed a lot but underneath he's still Nate and he gets along wonderfully with Robby. There's an issue though, with developers circling the cottage. This is the second book in a series- the first one featured Hallie- but it's fine as a standalone. If you can guess how this will turn out, that's fine too for most of us because Hale throws in some good twists. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. Nice storytelling makes this a good book for the beach (if you can do that), the garden or the couch if you can't.
