A rather strange look into the lives of the people in a Amish type community. Where the men can have multiple wives and sire many children by them and the younger people in the community can be exiled if they do not accept this lifestyle. The story involves abduction and murder of teenage girls from the community. Took a long while to get into the story which finally led to an intriguing end.

Complex thriller in an unusual setting. Missing girls that no-one in the tight knit religious group will admit to, nor will they help Clara ,an outsider who once belonged to the group. Fast paced with lots of twists.

It took me a long time to get into this book - I was over halfway through before I stopped thinking about abandoning it. I figured out who the villain was & wanted to know how the story would end.

This was a great first part in a new series. What made it extra special for me was the setting the author chose in which the story takes place.

It's something I do not know a lot about and I liked the way the author took the time to research and paint a great picture about how life is lived there.

There is nothing wrong with living in a closed community, but sometimes you have to realise that people on the outside are not all bad and that you might need their help. Refusing to open up does not solve anything. It makes some situations only worse.

Being very devoted to your religion is something personal and everybody should be able to decide how they want to live their life. The prophets and their family should be the ones you can trust and should set an example for the whole community or do they have their own agenda...? Keep your eyes open and don't rely completely on someone.

Detective Clare arrives back in her childhood town she fled years ago. The details are yet to be revealed, but the reason why is certainly not a pleasant one.

This is a story that captured my interest straight away. It's horrible what is going on, but the way the author tells the tale makes it an horribly good book. 5 stars

Thank you, Kathryn Casey and Bookouture

I absolutely LOVED this book. There is a large cast of characters but they are all fleshed out enough that it’s not at all difficult to keep them straight. The main character is fantastic, the secondary characters also clearly have a lot of room for growth in later stories, they were all just really well done. The plot was also fantastic. The book jumps right into the story and catches your attention from page one and holds it throughout.

I highly recommend this book to mystery readers in general, but specifically to fans of Linda Castillo and Julia Keller who will love the niche community setting and what can only be described as a native outsider main character.

I loved this book !!
This is the first instalment in a brand new series featuring Detective Clara Jefferies and it’s absolutely brilliant. Clara gets a phone call from an acquaintance in the hometown she left asking for her help as it seems her sister is missing, but this brings back many painful memories for Clara who had escaped from her polygamist family and is now considered to be an outcast. Ignoring her own feelings she returns to the small town desperate to try and find some clue as what has happened to her sister but she meets with hostility and refusals to speak from both her mother and other family members, but then a body is found but who is it !!
Well this really is a complex and exceptionally well written mystery thriller with a very different storyline that was so interesting. The book was well written with lots of information which really made for a compulsive read and I look forward to reading the next instalment of what I think will be a brilliant new series and much praise to Kathryn Casey for a completely satisfying 5 star read.
My thanks also to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me the chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

WOW, WOW, WOW, WOW! Clara Jefferies is a smart and savvy detective! After leaving her polygamous family in Utah, Clara becomes a respected detective in Dallas... she is thrust back into her family's life when her little sister Delilah goes missing. She gets a call from Max, a former boyfriend, who has also returned to the area to alert her that her sister is missing. And, it's only after she arrives that she learns other young girls are missing... and someone is covering it up. Clara is brave, talented, and resourceful. Kathryn Casey has written an amazing book with a character who is multi-dimensional. Clara yearns for her family, but also is happy with her life away from them. It's a very interesting dynamic. I cannot wait to pick up where this novel left off! You will not be able to put this book down - fabulous!

First I’ve read by this author and it will not be the last. I thoroughly enjoyed this book from beginning to end. It had a great storyline that kept you guessing until the end. Could not put this one down. Well-written, with great characters and backstories. This is a series, and author, I will most definitely be adding to my tbr list.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, not only was it a great crime book it was a lesson in how some other people live. I found it fascinating and I was sucked in from page one and couldn’t put it down. It was a story of despair, darkness, secrecy and hope. The story was interesting and the subject was handled sensitively bringing me into a world I knew nothing about. I am very much looking forward to the next book in the series! A solid 5 star from me it was a cracking read.
