This origin story has a little bit of everything with scenes of every day high school life, scientific secrets, and finding your worth. From his insecurities, bad jokes, and supportive friends, many readers will laugh and relate . The illustrations are a delight and have shades of green (what else?!) throughout. The action scenes are shown in multiple panels, keeping the reader engaged. Beast Boy is a beloved character and this volume will make fans cherish him even more.

I read a finished copy for this review. Thank you to DC Comics and NetGalley for the e-galley. My thoughts and reviews are my own.

I love, love, LOVE how Beast Boy is portrayed in this comic! He is dorky, playful and has an obsession with nice sneakers. He’s updated for the youtube and media generation, and it fits with Beast Boy’s character so well!

I really enjoyed the first book on Raven, but this one (maybe it’s just Gar and his silly antics) was really entertaining. Like with Raven, it’s mostly an origin story with a little kick. Gar has to navigate being a dork in high school and trying to make friends in the popular crowd, all while discovering things about himself that the puberty and hormone speech can’t explain.

Gabriel Picolo is the artist. If that’s not enough of an explanation, the work is gorgeous. The backgrounds are a bit simple, but it makes the characters stand out. It also has very muted coloring that works well, using Beast Boy’s signature green in different shades to make sure the audience knows its his.

Overall, keep these coming! I’m on the lookout for Beast Boy Loves Raven!

Beast Boy is the second of the DC Young Adult Teen Titan graphic novels. Having read and enjoyed Raven, I was excited to hear about this one, and it certainly didn't disappoint. Beast Boy has a lot going for it, from gorgeous art to a fun story, and is overall a great example of what makes middle grade/young adult crossover graphic novels to awesome.

The art style of Beast Boy is eye-catching and suits the story incredibly well. The framing especially is done masterfully, making the transition from frame to frame feel very dynamic and adding a lot of texture to the way the story is conveyed. The use of colours is excellent, especially with the use of green throughout. I could ramble on about how beautiful I found the art, and there were definitely panels that were so full of detail that I kept seeing something new when I looked at them again, but there's also excellent writing behind the illustrations.

Garfield is a teenage boy, so his impulsivity and his desire for attention are definitely something that play a large part in the story. He's definitely annoying, but there's something so honest about him that makes him a really fun character to follow. To me, someone who has a brother of a similar age and with a similar lack of impulse control, Garfield really felt like the teenage boy he was written to be, and that helped with making it feel like an origin story for a boy who was finding his way. He's definitely a character who won't appeal to everyone because of his teenager-ness, but I think that is also what makes him such an appropriate main character for this graphic novel.

The way Kami Garcia balanced Gar's growing knowledge of his powers with information that only the reader was privy to helped develop the plot a lot, especially considering this is Beast Boy's origin story. Scene cutaways were used really well to give insight into what was going on, and combined with Gar's plot well. Although it's a fairly short graphic novel and didn't get into a huge amount of detail, I felt like Gar's story was well told, paced fast enough to emulate that traditional comic feel but still fleshing things out well.

Beast Boy does a very good job of straddling the line between comic and graphic novel, highlighting the use of visual storytelling as a medium. I really enjoyed Beast Boy, and am looking forward to what comes next in this series!

Thank you to DC for providing me with a review copy in exchange for an honest review!

I received a copy of this book from DC Entertainment, Kami Garcia, and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed learning more about Beast Boy's story. I didn't know much about his story before hand, but it was neat to read how Gar became Beast Boy. The art in the comic is amazing and is a great read for anyone who loves the DC universe. I can't wait to read the next one in the series.

LOVED THIS SO MUCH! I know I'm just now getting to this review, but I was so blown away by this graphic novel depiction of Beast Boy. I've never really been interested in this Teen Titan, but when I started reading this, especially with Gabriel Picolo as the artist, I knew I'd be hooked. The storyline is deep enough that it makes you think about his personality and why he is the way he is. I'm obsessed, and can't wait for the next one to come out, because it's going to explore his relationship with Raven!! Big 'ol heart eyes for this one!

I loved this show as a kid and was hoping to enjoy the graphic novel but unfortunately, that was not the case.

I have always been interested in Garfield/Beast Boy's character in the DC Comics world, however, I haven't enjoyed very many of the portrayals of him, until now. Kami Garcia's version of him was PERFECT. I really enjoyed his development as a character as well as the development of his abilities, especially how it was written as a more gradual change. I'm hoping to see more of him in the future, maybe a potential crossover?

Another hit from Kami Garcia in this DC universe! A great start to this character. Yes he has superpowers but, he's still a tern trying yo find himseld at the same time. The art and use of color in this story is also brilliant. So much to love. Can't wait for the next volume! We are recommending this book like crazy at my store.

Get your copy of Beast Boy ASAP because honestly it's the best thing since sliced bread.

Link to Barnes and Noble (because Amazon doesn't need more of our money): https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/teen-titans-kami-garcia/1135444046?ean=9781401287191

In all seriousness, Garfield Logan/Beast Boy is my favorite superhero, and I feel like he's often not given a fair chance at "real" arcs like other characters. He's more than just the comic relief guy, and I love that this series is really exploring him and his other strengths (and insecurities). I am so thankful for this awesome representation of Gar. And yes, the next book (Beast Boy Loves Raven) is going to break my soul and piece it back together--and I'm so, so ready.

There is a lot of potential here - beast boy is such a fun character and it's interesting to see his origin story. But there's just not enough room in this book for the plot, for the backstory (did they assume that everyone was just going to know who Slade Wilson was?), or for the side characters (especially Gar's friends who both seem engaging but are pretty underdeveloped). A good start, but, like Gar, needed more room to breathe and grow.

This was a fantastic follow up to Teen Titans: Raven. I very much enjoyed the artwork in this book, the muted color palette really made everything stand out more. If you are a fan of Teen Titans or Kami Garcia then you will love this. The story is great, the characters are great, like I already said, the artwork is great. Overall it was just a really fun read and I would highly recommend it!

Kami Garcia does an excellent job with the character of Beast Boy and his story, it's an entertaining read with a solid take on Gar's backstory and while any DC fan will know where the story is headed, it's a perfectly entertaining ride. The art is great and works well to compliment the story. This series from DC has been uneven at times, this book is definitely one of the highlights and I'll be interested to see the sequel.

This graphic novel was just what I needed! Loved seeing the story of Gar unfold in great graphics. The story did have a lot of jumping from one character to another at some points but overall flowed well.

I enjoyed the good vibes of animal shelter, fighting against animal testing, etc but also lots of teenage angst, a little romance unfolding and of course pranks!

Can't wait to see where and how this story continues. Thanks to DC Comics for my review copy

Senior year is almost over and this is Garfield 'Gar' Logan's last chance to be popular--to matter-- at Bull Creek High School. When Gar accepts a crazy dare and impresses the popular crowd, his social status soars. That's not the only thing that changes in Gar's life: he suddenly grows taller and becomes stronger and faster. It's a dream come true...until Gar realizes the extent of his physical changes.

This graphic novel was a quick and enjoyable read. Beast Boy is beloved for his optimism and fun personality, but readers also witness Gar's vulnerability and ambition: he is self-conscious, values popularity (maybe a little too much), and wants to be proud of himself. It's ultimately a story about self-discovery and friendship.

The friendship between Gar, Stella, and Tank is so great--they support each other and listen to one another's problems. Even when their friendship becomes slightly strained from Gar's sudden popularity, they are still sensitive to each other's emotions.

Though the climax of this graphic novel is less dramatic than Teen Titans: Raven, it is exciting and touching. Readers will surely look forward to Book 3!

Rating 4.5

I have come to really enjoy these Teen Titan graphic novels. Raven was awesome and Beast Boy did not disappoint. Both the artwork and the storytelling are done so well. They make it too easy to finish in one sitting because you want to know whats going to happen. Overall, I really enjoyed and will read any other book in this series no matter who the main character is!

I really enjoyed the first origin story that Kami Garcia wrote for Raven. It was interesting to see the cliche of an origin story given a fresh and interesting twist.
