Kami Garcia is really killing it with this series, which is a new approach to the Teen Titans. It stays faithful to the comics in some aspects, and goes in a new direction in others, but is fun, with beautiful art and a lot of depth to the characters.

A new take on a well-loved team. DC fans are always seeking new Teen Titans stories. Kami Garcia really gets these characters and their team dynamic. These individual books give you a solid sense of the characters but gives you an updated story on them. I can’t wait to see when they come together…(you saw that, right?).

The art. If you’ve read Raven, you’re familiar with Gabriel Picolo’s art. Clean line art and color guide your way. It’s clear Gabriel and Kami are partners in the Teen Titans story.

Beloved writers writing new modalities! You may know Kami from Beautiful Creatures or The Lovely Reckless or X-Files or her role at YallWest/Fest. She’s pretty awesome overall. Seeing her write comics is a treat (if you haven’t checked out her Harley, I highly recommend you do).

A sincerely delightful read! I really hope that Gabriel Picolo will get to do the full set of Teen Titans graphic novels, because I am enjoying his art SO MUCH -- his love for the characters just comes right off the page. This is a very sweet introduction to Garfield that also addresses a number of important issues (animal testing and body image problems for boys, most notably) without coming off as preachy. Fingers crossed that once we get all the Teen Titans introduced, they'll actually get to meet and have adventures together, but I'm enjoying their standalone books while I wait!

I have been loving the Teen Titan comics and Beast Boy is only causing my love to grow for this series! Kami Garcia is such a brilliant author and it still shows through in comics! I could go on and on about Gabriel Picolo's art, but just take a look and you'll see how amazing his style is and how it translates brilliantly to comics!

Beast Boy is such a fun character and the way his backstory is set up is fascinating! Even though my twin sister and I would watch some of the episodes of Teen Titans as kids, I never learned more about the characters and this is such a beautiful and exciting way of learning about each character! As an animal lover, Beast Boy as always been one of the characters I was more interested in and this comic has only increased my love for this character!

This is such a quick and fun comic and is definitely something people of all ages could and should pick up! If you're looking for action, amazing art, and nostalgia be sure to read Beast Boy (as well as Raven, the first book of the series)!

Thank you NetGalley and DC Comics for sharing an eARC with me in exchange for an honest review. I absolutely DEVOURED this comic and cannot wait for more! I loved the battle Gar has with himself (and classmates) and his body image. He is a struggling teenager who is not happy with his appearance. I think that his story is important for boys and girls and I look forward to seeing him grow throughout future comics.

I thought I was going to have an issue comprehending the events of this book as I didn't read the first "Raven" installment. I had no such issues.

This book was amazing, from the art to the characters to the plot. A great majority of the plot's setup was our main character, Garfield Logan, dealing with issues surrounding his own body. Not being developed as some of the other boys from his high school, Gar looks for ways in which he can fit into the more athletic and muscular image of the other boys, all while dealing with issues regarding his parents and other circumstances he might not be entirely aware about.

About halfway into the book I did think the treatment of Gar into "Beast Boy" was going to be random and forced, as we do deal with Gar's body issues for a good deal. However, I felt that his personal life and his transformation were ultimately done well, with the backdrop of his boss issues bringing forth a good "slice of life" element to the story. Overall, this was a great story, with foreshadowing of what's to come tickling my interest.

Props to the author and artist for weaving in body image surrounding boys. Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for providing a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

This comic was everything I wanted it to be and even more! I grew up with the Teen Titans and although Robin (all four of them) will always be my favorite, Beast Boy is a very close second. I absolutely devoured this new comic.

The plot and the illustration are stunningly gorgeous. I truly loved everything about it, from Gar to his friends and holy cow I cannot wait for the next installment in this series!

Beast Boy is one of my favorite Teen Titans. I really enjoyed this look into his origin story and am curious as to how/if he will be meeting up with the other Titans. The book ended on a cliffhanger, so I also want to know what happens next. Good artwork. Good story. Good characters.

I want to start by saying a huge thank you to DC Comics for a review copy of Teen Titans Beast Boy!

It is no secret that I am a fan of comic books/characters. Some of you may not have know that I am a fan of the Teen Titans though. I have loved the Teen Titans since I first saw the TV show years ago! (Not Teen Titans Go! , the original Teen Titans) I was thrilled when I found out that there is going to be a new season (FINALLY!!) One of my favorite Titans is Beast Boy! I just love Garfield so much, from his personality to his resolve and commitment to his friends. So when I found out that Kami Garcia was returning for yet another Teen Titans novel I was beyond excited! If you didn’t know she also wrote Teen Titans Raven. Gabriel Picolo is also returning as the artist. His art is so perfect and I love it! I couldn’t imagine anyone else contributing to Beast Boy! I love how Kami portrays Gar, I think she captures him perfectly. I loved her take on his story and I desperately hope she returns with a Robin , and Starfire novel.m, with Gabriel returning as the artist again. I really want a cross over with their stories if that happens that cumulates into a full Teen Titans novel! I highly recommend this book especially to fans of the original Teen Titans series!

Thanks to NetGalley for the eARC of this book so I can give an honest review.

This review has very minor and vague spoilers about the general story.

The original Teen Titans cartoon was one of my favorites growing up, and Beast Boy was my favorite Titan. He was funny and charming and silly. If anything, I probably had a bit of a cartoon crush on him. I had to get my hands on this graphic novel as soon as I heard about it, and I am so happy that I was able to get an ARC of it.

As soon as I started reading I was engrossed in the story. It all flows very well and I never felt my attention waiver. There is not a lot of super hero action in this book, but I never felt like I needed it. I enjoyed that the story was told without the drama of super hero antics. It's an origin story focusing on a teenager just trying to fit in and find himself, while also learning he has super powers.

I think it deals with Gar's desires to find a way to fit in, his insecurities with his body and appearance, and his desire to rise in the social ladder very well. I instantly fell in love with this interpretation of Gar Logan. He's witty and makes fun of himself so others can't. He wants nothing more than to fit in with the cool kids before he graduates high school.

Gar is an insecure teenage boy just trying to fit in. He wants to be taller, more muscular, not picked last during gym class. He wants the cool kids to notice him and the girl of his dreams to kiss him. On top of all this, he starts to realize that his body is changing, and it's a lot more than a sudden growth spurt.

In a lot of ways I think I enjoyed this so much because I relate to Gar, or at least I did when I was seventeen. I remember what it was like to just want to fit in at that age and not being happy with who I was. I really felt for Gar and his struggles. I wanted him to just realize that he already has everything he needs. I think by the end he comes to see this in a small way, and I hope future volumes will explore Gar's insecurities a bit more.

I really enjoyed how Gar's friends, Tank and Stella, are written. The friendship these three have is very close, dynamic, and honest. They clearly care deeply about each other. The story doesn't ignore Tank and Stella as characters either. We see their struggles and the hardships they face along side Gar's. They are treated as real characters and not just background pieces for Gar's story.

I'm very excited to see where this story goes. I think this adaptation is amazing and I have fallen in love with Beast Boy all over again.

This is a book for Teen Titan fans and new people who have never read or seen the Teen Titans.

Teen Titans is a fun and fast read. I was not familiar with Garfield Logan's story, and I'm very happy I read this book. I loved it! This story is very appropriate and timely. Many people try to "be cool," often forgetting that what they already have in their lives is what truly matters.

Gar is a fun character with struggles that leads him to pursue the wrong things. He is strong, funny, and compassionate. His friends are wonderful human beings. They also have with their own struggles, but despite everything, they are all there for each other. This graphic novel truly depicts what real friendship is. I've enjoyed reading about them and want to read more now.

The dialogue is funny and heartwarming. The illustrations are simply stunning. The author and illustrator did a fantastic job here. I highly recommend you pick this one up!

ARC provided by the publisher through NetGalley. All thoughts are my own.

Teen Titans: Beast Boy is the second in this Teen Titans graphic novel series. It is an origin story of how Gar comes into his Beast Boy powers whilst being a high school student navigating social relationships and his parent’s secrets. The story from Teen Titans: Raven has no bearing on this one, so you do not need to read the two in order.

This book has the same strengths and weaknesses of the first in the series. Both are exceptionally quick reads that do a decent job of introducing you to the character and their world; the art is equally as wonderful in Beast Boy as it is in Raven. This being said, they both feel very incomplete. Both end right after an information reveal and right before something big is going to happen. It makes it feel like you just read a prequel and now are waiting around for the rest of the story.

I wish I could find any information about the structure of this series. I would probably feel less critical of the abrupt endings if I knew when DC plans on actually either uniting the group or going back to their individual stories. I also just want to know how many beginnings of a story I will need to read before I get to progress in anyone’s story.

I gave this book four stars and am conflicted about if I would recommend it. It is fun and quick, but I kind of wish I hadn’t read them until more were out. That impulse is obviously bad for actually getting more if you (and everyone else) don’t buy books in a series, then there is always the risk the series will be canceled before if it finished. I would like to read more; I just hope they eventually start to progress past the introduction phase.

Last year, I had the pleasure of reading Kami Garcia's take on the DC Comics character, Raven. The narrative was grounded, the art was appealing, and I could instantly see this book as a go-to on my classroom shelf. I also enjoyed Teen Titans: Raven as a comics reader based on my own interests.

Garcia's follow-up, Teen Titans: Beast Boy, contains much of the same joy. The story and artwork again transport us to a relatable location, even with fantasy elements included. I can see this as yet another young adult reading experience to share with teens and adults.

As I finished, I thought: The good news is, there are more Teen Titans for Garcia to explore in future books. Very well done! Many thanks to publisher DC Comics for the advance digital copy for my review.

I loved the first installation of this series (Raven), so I was excited to hear that a Beast Boy Story was in the works. Even more so when I got the e-arc! I found it very interesting to read about Gar's body insecurity, as male body image is not talked about much in books. I love the art style, but that's not new. I flew through this way too quickly. I'm so excited to see what comes next for my favorite titans

This was really cute! I loveeee Teen Titans and I had so much fun reading Beast Boy's origin story. My only complaint would be that I wish these comics were longer. I feel like they end right when the action is about to really take off and I don't know if/when we will learn what happens to Beast Boy (and I'm still waiting to find out what happened to Raven from her comic).

But I love the art (Gabriel Picolo is the best and I love his art style) and I was never bored once while reading this so that definitely counts for something! Can't wait to own the physical copy of this book to add to my collection!

"Garfield Logan has spent his entire life being overlooked. Even in a small town like Eden, Georgia, the seventeen-year-old with green streaks in his hair can't find a way to stand out--and the clock is ticking. Senior year is almost over. If Gar doesn't find a way to impress the social elite at Bull Creek High School, he will never know what it's like to matter. Gar's best friends, Stella and Tank, can't understand why he cares what other people think, and they miss their funny, pizza-loving, video game-obsessed best friend."
I absolutely LOVED the Raven comic, so I was very excited to see the continuation of the gang with Beast Boy. The drawings were beautiful and flowed nicely with the narrative. I love how each novel has a central color for its theme, and of course for Beast Boy, it was green! The characterization is once again on point. All of the characters feel so real and well-rounded that you could believe it actually happened in a high school (well most of it anyway). The character dynamics within Gar's friend group was also enjoyable, each friend having their own problems and concerns but being supportive overall no matter what. I liked the exploration of Beast Boy's powers as they start coming in full force but wish I could've seen just a little more before the story ended. The buildup within the graphic novel for the rest of the series was well done, and I can't wait to see whose story comes next!

Gar's best friends, Stella and Tank, can't understand why he cares what other people think, and they miss their funny, pizza-loving, video game-obsessed best friend.

Then Gar accepts a wild dare out of the blue. It impresses the popular kids, and his social status soars. But other things are changing, too. Gar grows six inches overnight. His voice drops, and suddenly, he's stronger and faster. He's finally getting everything he wanted, but his newfound popularity comes at a price. Gar has to work harder to impress his new friends. The dares keep getting bigger, and the stakes keep getting higher.

When Gar realizes the extent of his physical changes, he has to dig deep and face the truth about himself--and the people who truly matter--before his life spirals out of control."

Kami Garcia and Gabriel Picolo knock it out of the park once again! I can not get over how gorgeous this is! Everything flows so well, from the writing to the art. The story is fast-paced and fun. I enjoyed reading about Gar and his quest to become "more" and popular. It was very well written and believable in that stand point.

I will say that I wish it was a bit longer and that we got a more in-depth look at his powers. Fingers-crossed that we will get that deeper look soon!

I am giving Beast Boy 4 stars!

All of my thanks to Netgalley and DC Entertainment from the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange of an honest review!

Thank you Netgalley for an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed the first book in the series, Raven. I was excited for the next installment to the world! The story was a bit slower than Raven, but still good. I am looking forward to what happens in the next installment. This one very much felt like a build up to a sequel, whereas Raven felt like a fully formed story.

While Beast Boy isn't directly related to Raven in the sense that you could read them in either order, it's clear that Garcia is setting up a convergence into a Teen Titans title that will combine the rest of the cast. I expect we will see Starfire, Cyborg, and Robin have their own titles before that happens. Gar in this title is fighting a similar battle to Raven in that he is having to discover himself as his powers begin to manifest. The "big bad" in this story is, once again. bullies, which makes this more a story of self-discovery and self-as-enemy (seeing as Gar talks himself into a lot of the outlandish pranks). Gar's two friends are also well-developed and likable characters.

Picolo's art, like in Raven, focuses on a central color to anchor the rest of the palette. While Beast Boy had way more colors overall than Raven, green was still predominantly placed in every page. The illustrations themselves are inviting and beautiful.

While the main characters are all seniors in high school, there is nothing inappropriate about this title that a middle school student couldn't handle. there is one smooch, and obviously some disobeying rules/laws that happens with the pranks.

Thank you NetGalley and DC Ink for the e-arc.

So, this is the first Teen Titans comic I've read. (I know, I know, Raven is on order so don't shoot me). But I have read some recent origin stories by Marvel and Dc and this is by far my favorite. I won't post a spoilery review since we are not close to the release date so, I'll just say how much I enjoyed this one!
