Lisa Jewell is at it again with a new dark twisted thriller.

When Saffyre Maddox was ten something terrible happened and she's carried the pain of it around with her ever since. The man who she thought was going to heal her didn't, and now she hides from him, invisible in the shadows, learning his secrets; secrets she could use to blow his safe, cozy world apart.

There are many characters introduced, and that might leave the reader feeling lost, especially with so many being unlikable. Although I read this book very quickly and it kept my attention, I found the story line left me feeling depressed and hopeless.
This is a book that will stay with you long after finishing it...

As always, Jewell parses the information gently and at a pace that's sure to keep you interested. Yet. This didn't have any emotional resonance for me. I suspect that I won't think of any if these characters again.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC for my Kindle.
A dark thriller with profanity and some sexual content which made the book just o.k. for me.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my copy. All opinions are my own!

I went back and forth on what to rate this book, and ultimately decided to go with 3.5 stars. Overall, I enjoyed this book but it wasn't an instant favorite, which is normally how I feel about Jewell's writing. I loved that this book tackled timely and difficult topics. I'd never read a thriller like this before, so I definitely appreciated it's originality. My main complaint was that it all kind of seemed too good to be true- too many stories intersecting that could never happen in real life. I can't fully explain why I felt like that due to spoilers, but hopefully that'll make more sense once more people get their hands on this book! I enjoyed this read but it was not my favorite of Jewell's

Creepy and atmospheric. I haven’t read anything by this author before and was delighted to find this every bit as exciting as I hoped. Major kudos for the twist!

This book was so unexpected! It was thrilling and creepy and unputdownable! I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

This was a fast paced read with many different twists and turns. I received an advanced readers copy through NetGalley and read it on the beach in one day. Fans of her other books will definitely want to read it.

I love a good Lisa Jewell book but I have to admit this may be my least favorite of hers so far. The writing, as always, is fantastic but this one seemed a bit scattered compared to her others. There was a lot going on between the three POV's and the timelines of Before and Now that made it hard at times to follow. In true Jewell fashion though it all seemed to come together at the end. The last part of the book was the best for me

I really struggled with this book- it started off good but they’re were just way too many tangents with each character and it was hard to keep track of them all. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free copy in exchange for review.

Invisible Girl is another great book by Lisa Jewell. I thought I knew what was going on then Lisa would throw in a curve ball and make me change my mind. Lots of great twists. Lisa has become one author I look for her books because they are so good.

OMGoodness!!! I can't believe what wonderful books Lisa Jewell writes! Invisible Girl grabbed me right at the start and surprised me all the way through. It is easy to 'see' her characters, her descriptions are wonderfully complete. I was a little confused on the timeline at times...but that was okay. Each chapter was from a different character's perspective and time. This is the second or third book that I have read from Lisa Jewell....and I'm probably going to go back and find others she has written and read them also. Very pleasant reading.

Slow build but hard hitting ending!
There’s a lot going on in this story with a lot of characters to keep up with. A young girl named Saffyre goes missing and throughout the book we follow some questionable characters that could be/couldn’t be involved in her disappearance. I had some predictions as to what happened to Saffyre but they were false! That twisty ending was pretty epic and memorable. None of the characters stuck with me but the story itself was good.
*This book deals with sexual abuse and assault.

This book managed to blend many characters and plot lines together in a way that you feel as if you’re reading separate books, but it works! It’s amazing to see how the mystery pans out and the thrilling and shocking end. And even then is that the end?

4.5 stars

I have read most of Lisa Jewell's books, and this one is my new favorite. I was impressed at how there was some substance and depth to the story instead of it just being a typical thriller. I finished this book a few days ago and my mind keeps going back to it. I keep thinking about some of the characters and I just have this urge to dissect everything I just read. For that reason, I think this book would be a great book club pick.

Cate is a physiotherapist and is married with two kids. Her husband, Roan, is a child psychologist. Saffyre Maddox was Roan's patient for a few years. Owen Pick is in his thirties, lives with his aunt, and is a teacher. The story will bounce back and forth between some of the characters. I'm a big fan of the author so I didn't find it necessary to read the publisher's synopsis before diving right into the story. I highly enjoyed my reading experience and I do recommend if you have loved the author's other books, to just go into the story blind like I did. I think it is more fun to be completely in the dark at the beginning and letting the story unfold naturally rather than having a heads up.

This was a quick read for me and I ended up finishing it in a day. I have mentioned in the past that while I enjoy the author's books, usually I can see which direction she is going in way before I get to the ending. She mixed things up a bit in this book and I was caught off guard a few times which was fun.

If you haven't read a book by this author before, this is a good place to start. If you have enjoyed her other books, I think this one will be a good read for you as well.

Lisa Jewell's writing keeps getting better and better. She did an excellent job with Invisible Girl. I went into it blind, not even bothering to read the description. I was immediately hooked from the first page. Each character was so well-written, and I thought Jewell particularly shined when writing from Saffyre's POV. Writing from the POV of a teenage girl is so difficult, and frequently their voices seem inauthentic to me. But Jewell nailed it. Saffyre was a wonderful character and so layered and nuanced.

Owen's character broke my heart, even when he was simultaneously frustrating me. I liked the evolution of his character. It was easy to visualize his particular kind of loneliness due to Jewell's excellent job at bringing him to life.

To me, each of Jewell's books is stronger than the one before, and this is no exception. I can't wait to see what she writes next!

I've been reading Lisa Jewell since the '90s and I always enjoy her characters and sense of setting. This book had a few missteps (some of the motivations of the man who dabbled in incel chat were glossed over) but all in all, I enjoyed the book. Saffyre was a fun character and I wish we had got to see more of her uncle who raised her. The character of the therapist was chilling yet realistic--so many men think they are "good guys" but are true villains.

Something terrible happened to Saffyre Maddox when she was 10 years old and she has never told anyone. 3 years of therapy with Roan Fours and she still has a fierce hold on her secret.

The story is told from alternating points of view -- Saffyre, Cate Fours (Roan's wife), and Owen Pick who lives across the street from the Fours family in an affluent area of London. This story has sexual abuse, adultery, scandal, and even touches on some dark net subculture terrorism...and somehow the author brings together so many seemingly random pieces with Saffyre emerging like a butterfly from a coccoon!

It was a bit of a slow start for me, and I almost quit reading it altogether after the chapter where Owen Pick's creepy character is fully developed...in fact there were a lot of creepy men and weak female characters in this book, that I might not normally mind, but in times of COVID I am having a hard time with "unsettling" books and unlikable characters.

However, I am so glad I persevered, and very little *spoiler alert* it doesn't get too much weirder for Owen, so keep reading. I thought it was more like a mystery or drama unfolding rather than a thriller, but I loved all the pieces and how Lisa Jewell unraveled the mess.

This was my first Lisa Jewell book, and I'm always happy to find a new-to-me author with a big backlist of titles to check out!

Lisa Jewell's latest psychological thriller is a fast-paced novel full of family secrets, and misunderstandings. Like her previous novels, Invisible Girl is told from different points of view to give you just enough insight into what is happening, This novel is so hard to summarize because there are so many characters that seem unconnected, but of course they are. And when they all converge on Valentine's evening, a 17 year old girl goes missing.
Is Owen Pick, the 33 year old virgin responsible, as everyone believes?
Or, could it be related to the violent assaults happening to women on the streets near the abduction?
This novel has so many twists and turns, it will keep you up all night trying to connect the pieces. Another winner form an amazing author.

Lisa Jewell once again proves what a great storyteller she is with Invisible Girl. I was easily drawn into the lives of the Fours family and their odd neighbor Owen Pick. Women are being molested in the street by a person wearing a dark hoodie. The police bring in Owen despite his protests of innocence. The suspense builds as misdirections occurs. Who is the real culprit? A great mystery that deserves a five star rating.
