I am sorry to say that I am giving up on this one. DNF @ 37%. I feel like I've been reading this book forever and I need to keep forcing myself to pick it up. It is just not for me. I have found myself skimming and I don't think it's a book that should be skimmed. I'm quite sure I'd get to the end and not know what was going on.

I don't know if I missed something by not reading book one. Maybe I would have cared more about our MC, Lucas Page, if I had read that one? He admits to not being a people-person and not playing well with others, but he feels somewhat standoffish as a character that it’s hard to care about him. He certainly is intelligent and has some interesting talents though. I also like the witty banter, but there's just not enough to make me want to continue.

This book is too detail heavy for my taste and that made it feel impersonal as well. It lacked emotion for me and dragged. Basically, there is an explosion and a lot of FBI talk (info dump), which was repeated several times. I'm not really interested in finding out the connection between the explosions if it means reading multiple FBI info heavy discussions and talk about the super wealthy and their decorations, etc, plus discussions about political extremists and media.

I am clearly the outlier when it comes to this book as most people seem to love it. It certainly has intelligent writing. I just don't want to have to think so much and the political climate being what it is these days, I really need a break from it.

If you are someone that enjoys political intrigue and has an interest in Wall Street and finances and corruption, this may be a great story for you. It just didn't engage me.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press for the widget. I truly appreciate the opportunity to review this book. This book was compared to Orphan X, which I loved. However, I found it to be more of an FBI procedural than an 'action hero' story.

Detailed and action packed, Lucas Page is back and man is he good. Page epitomizes the quirky character, specifically that one that people love to hate, but somehow still love. He is unique and his skillset is fascinating.

This story involves crimes and the FBI, but it also blends in a beautiful and funny family and friendship element throughout the book and series. His wife is fierce and her slap was epic, for timing and who was slapped. The children are special and I love Page’s interactions with them. The library scene has me intrigued to know what, if anything, comes about with her. This series and author are not shy from killing of seemingly major characters so there was one scene that had me tense and crying...talk about well done!

This is the second book in the series and it should be read in order. You could read this book first and enjoy it, but the details and relationship dynamics from book one play a role in this book. I don’t know what will or can happen next based off of some conversations between characters but I enjoy this series and look forward to seeing Dr. Page, Whitaker, Erin and Maude’s squad again!

Thank you for the chance to read this book and share my opinion!

This is the second book in the Lucas Page series. It did not disappoint. From the first chapter till the last chapter you are on the edge of your seat. I can’t wait to read his next book. I would love to read a little more of his family life in the next book. This book series would make a great TV series.

This was really good and my only problem was finding out it was book two in a series and I had not read book one. I can easily fix that though and I will.

Lucas Page is one of those really high functioning, gifted people - an astrophysicist and university lecturer who has remarkable abilities in scanning, classifying and recalling data. His brain works a bit like a computer and he is very useful to the FBI in solving serious crime. He has also suffered somewhat physically which I guess happened in book one.

The book is action packed, fast paced and well written. I enjoyed all of the characters and their frequently witty dialogue. Lucas has a very entertaining family and I would have liked to hear more about them. I thought it was a great read and will pick up book one as soon as I can.

Dr. Lucas Page is an astrophysicist, mathematician, and former FBI agent who is called back into the FBI when his assistance is needed in a mass bombing in Manhattan. Dr. Page has a unique ability to translate spacial relationships into mathematical equations in his head and recreate crime scenes. Page is a bomb survivor himself. He's a brilliant curmudgeon, yet very much a family man, having adopted five children with his wife. I loved Page's dark humor and attitude. This book was a barn burner. I flew through it. I did read this without reading the first book in the series and this worked well as a stand alone. However, I did like this enough that I will be going back to read the first book.

This is the second in the series and I had not read the first. I think it would have been better to read it first but the story stood alone. Dr Lucas Page is a fascinating character with an intriguing family and back story of being adopted. And having half his body blown off before the book starts. He sees numbers and patterns and works on A mass murder/terrorism case in NY. While some of the book strains credibility it is a fun ride and I really enjoyed his character. Already ordered book #1 in the series.

I was given an advance copy by NetGalley in exchange for an unbiased review.

Under Pressure is a rapid-moving thriller about someone who's blowing up buildings and people. The targets seem unrelated and the motive even murkier. Lucas Page, an astrophysicist with a superpower, is summoned by the FBI for his assistance. Dr. Page has survived an explosion that left him minus an arm, leg, and eye. The unusual ability he has to visualize a blown-up building as it was just before exploding and then in slow motion as it explodes is nothing short of amazing. Such a creative idea! Under Pressure has some great plot twists as well.

This is the second book in a Lucas Page series. I was previously unfamiliar with this author, but am looking forward to reading the first book.

It's very cool when the second book in a series is even better than the first. Pobi has pulled it off with "Under Pressure" which is his follow-up to "City of Windows," both featuring FBI asset Lucas Page, a survivor if there's ever been any with a prosthetic eye, arm, leg, and who knows what else that they're not telling us. In this novel, those things take a backseat to Page's innate ability to see patterns in events like an accountant looking at balance sheets. This is a thriller from cover to cover with no let up in the action as a series of impossible bombs wreak havoc on Wall Street tycoons, hedge fund dummies, and technology. The body count from almost the beginning passes 700 and counting. But, nothing about these perfect crimes makes sense, at least not until Page puts it together when it's almost too late. What really makes this thriller roar though is the precise pacing with the violence, the investigation, and Page's home life all balanced against each other. Sometimes a book is just fun to read and this one fits that bill.

Someone blows up the Guggenheim Museum in New York City, killing people and the FBI is called in. The Special Agent in Charge knows he needs help, so he calls in Lucas Page, or at least what is left of him. He has been through other explosions and lost various body parts. He also an amazing capability to shut out everything else and see patterns and evidence that others don’t.

This book is violent and bloody and goes in directions that aren’t obvious, but it definitely kept my interest. It is not a cookie-cutter story that is easy to figure out from the beginning.

In Robert Pobi's Under Pressure (Minotaur Books 2020), Book 2 in the Lucas Page series, when FBI Special Agent Brett Kehoe asked his friend Lucas Page for help, Lucas should have said no. But Kehoe made it sound so simple and quick:

“I just want you to do a walk-through and get a feel for what happened. Look at it as an exercise in basic physics and chemistry. That’s all."

When Lucas agreed, everything changed because he never did anything partway. Lucas wasn’t an ordinary man. I’m not talking about his prosthetic arm and leg or his one remaining good eye or the way he could see time in reverse. The way his mind was unique. He loved numbers, could see patterns where others just saw gore and death. So when he went to this walk-through, "basic physics and chemistry", he saw so much more, enough that he realized this murder wasn't simple at all and he had to solve it before others died.

Two things to consider: There’s a little bit of politics. You probably won’t notice unless you’re sensitive to it. Second, the plot is complicated. Don’t doze off. Luckily Lucas likes complications, thrives on them, so he tries to unravel them for us slower folks. Oddly, my only real compliant is that it’s a bit slow. There’s lots of action but it bogs down with the unending detail of this outrageous mind. It didn't block the stellar ranking but give me pause.

Overall, an excellent read and a great new character for me.

Under Pressure by Robert Pobi is a superb page turner. Well worth the time and the read! Looking forward to the next novel.

I am excited to have just discovered author Robert Pobi. He has written a heck of a story here with snappy dialogue and pretty nifty high tech tools. I was glued to the pages from the start after a thermobaric explosion annihilates the Guggenheim museum and 700+ people inside.

I loved each one of Pobi’s main characters, especially the gifted Dr. Lucas Page, a bad-ass and brilliant protagonist who’s specialty is numbers and patterns. The way his brain works is mind-blowing.

Pobi weaves in interesting touches connected to his characters. He does not shy away when it comes to thoughts on our decaying fabric of cities and citizens, meddling media, conspiracy nutcases makings noise on social media and putting our protectors in danger while finding entertainment in unrest.

This is the second book in a series and although it does perfectly well as a standalone, I am eager to go back and read the first in the series to answer my questions regarding his family and the situation surrounding his life-changing injury.

This is book #2 of the Lucas Page series & as with “City of Windows” you’re in for a wild ride full of mystery, suspense & black humor.

The story begins after a massive explosion at NYC’s iconic Guggenheim Museum. The casualties are in the 700’s, bodies burnt to ash but surprise, surprise: the building itself has barely any damage.

The FBI is called in and haven’t seen anything like this before. They know that only former agent Lucas Page can get to the bottom of it. Lucas’s mind works like no other, and can read a crime scene. However, he wants nothing to do with the FBI. However, he’s pulled in by the seemingly inexplicable crime and the chance to work with Agent Whitaker, the only person who can work with him. Soon, there is another bomb goes off, then another…

This is an exciting page turner that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the last page. Thoroughly enjoyed it and thanks to Net Galley for an advanced copy.

You are back with Dr. Luca Page; he has been called in after a bomb goes off in the Guggenheim Museum. He of course has figured out the type of bomb before the experts and there begins the back and forth between him and the team that he is supposed to work with. He now needs to look through the over 700 victims to see what if anything sticks out as to why this occurred.
Just like the first book, you are taken on a ride from the first page to the very last page. You do have some of the characters from the first book in this one and you also get to see a little more of his home life as well. Overall, this was a very good story with really good characters and the book will keep you guessing but also entertained all the way through. Another excellent job by the author and very much worth the read.

** spoiler alert ** So I thought I had figured this book out pretty quickly. The little-talked-about but disparaged son of the billionaire who owned the company sponsoring all the mayhem seemed like a pretty good bet. As soon as the second reference to bonsai trees came up though towards the end of the book, I knew I had it wrong. It was an easy read. I wish I understood a little bit more how Lucas managed to live. I'm not 100% clear on how that was possible.

This was my first book by Robert Pobi, and now I want to go back and read the first Lucas Page novel, and definitely any subsequent ones. Even though Under Pressure continues where the previous book left off, I never felt out of the loop with this book. It has a relentless pace, never stopping for a breather, and I was immediately swept away in the in the action/mystery/thriller. There are references to current events and issues with a dystopian feel to it, that made me feel even more immersed. The details are gory and very graphic, which had me split in two minds: one admiring Pobi's ability to bring the story to life, another needing breaks even though I wanted to know what happened next. I figured out bits and pieces of the mystery, but the whole picture, the how and the why didn't come together until the very end.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book! It’s the first book I’ve read by this author but I am definitely going to search out the first book in this series.. Fully developed, likable characters and a fast moving plot kept me reading late into the night. The unique lead character has an almost supernatural ability at assimilate data and see what others don’t see. Add to this that one side of his body is all prosthetics, his sarcastic humor perfectly timed, and you have a character like none other in the genre. Highly recommended

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for a free copy of this ARC.
I really liked this fast paced, action packed whodunnit. It was the second book in the series which means I need to go back to read book one.
The author kept me guessing right up until then end.

If you’re interested in a summer blockbuster action movie in a book, Under Pressure may be just what you’re looking for.

Dr Lucas Page is an astrophysicist who can see amazing patterns in numbers that others can’t see. The FBI calls him in to help after a bomb goes off at the Guggenheim killing over 700 people. Page demonstrates his amazing number abilities when some question why he was brought in.

At this point I was all in and expected that we would continue to see this skill in action throughout solving the case. Wrong. Instead it turned into a run of the mill action movie in book format - car chases, gunfights, bombs, mines, you name it. I stuck with it assuming the eventual solution of the crime would have it all pay off. It didn’t.

This one was a miss for me - but more a case of it not fulfilling my expectations from the way it started. If you go into it expecting the action movie plot, this may work out better for you.

Thank you Minotaur and Netgalley for the free ebook to read and review. I also purchased the audiobook and felt the narration was really well done.
