Two disaffected teenagers find themselves part of the magical world.

It is well writtenband descriptive. However, it wasn't overly original in plot. The book was filled with an overflowing hodgepodge of the magical including demons, wizards, and elves. It includes the classic fight against evil.

It just wasn't my cup of tea.

I received a free copy of this book. I am leaving my honest opinion.

I must admit I was pretty skeptical about starting this book. I had zero expectations but this book was amazing. It reminds me of Lord of the Rings/A Darker Shade of Magic/The Mortal Instruments. This was the perfect high-fantasy book for me. I am a huge high-fantasy fan and this book did not disappoint. The plotline is very unique and I love how the author put two characters stories into one. I did love Brooke's story and I couldn't put the book down because I wanted to keep reading about her. I also loved her and Arantay's relationship and am very hopeful for them in the coming books. Needless to say I cannot wait to start the next couple of books in this series.

Have you ever wondered what would happen if Clary from The Mortal Instruments and Percy Jackson from... I mean you get know went to Hogwarts together?

Well I haven't but if you have, you'll like this book more than I did.

I try my very best not to compare books to each other because I'm a strong believer that a book is entirely it's own, but I'm fairly certain A Darker Shade of Sorcery wants the comparison so there you go. I think the problem with A Darker Shade of Sorcery is that there's just too much going on. Plenty of books have tried to mimic others, but this book not only has 2 MCs and a complex combination of magic systems, but it seems to be pulling from different age brackets. I'd genuinely recommend A Darker Shade of Sorcery as a middle grade book because it could probably be a fun middle grade adventure if you get rid of all the swearing and inappropriate jokes.

Yes, the series it emulates also have adult fan bases, but that's because of a timeless nature, not because they were written for adults. Percy Jackson and Harry Potter (definitely their first books at least) were written for children. I love them both, but it doesn't change the fact that the target audience was middle grade. You can't emulate that writing, plot, and pacing style and then make it inaccessible to the target audience those methods were developed for or what could have once been a massive target audience will start dwindling very quickly.

This book was a fast-paced adventure into the world of magic and I can't wait to read the next one!
Welcome to Veneseron Fortress, a place that becomes a new home to Evan and Brooke. This is a school for demon hunters that are trained to use all kinds if enchanted weaponry.
This is the last place Evan and Brooke think they will wind up, however, it turns out to be amazing! Join them on the beginning of this amazing ride! I'm looking forward to the next book!
