YESSSS!!! She has done it again! Ruth Ware has written another knock out novel. Just amazing. I couldn’t stop reading because literally each page is better than the last one. Y’all need to read this one! So full of suspense.

First of all, let me say that Ruth Ware is one of my favorite mystery writers.
I have read all of her previous books, therefore, I was incredibly excited when I was approved to review her latest book.

I really enjoyed her latest murder mystery. Although, I would say that I loved her previous books, The Turn of the Key and The Death of Mrs. Westaway more than this one, simply because I loved the gothic atmosphere in those. Still, as a modern mystery, which revolves around the social media generation and viral smart phone app frenzy, this was not far behind.

This book is narrated by two different characters, Erin and Liz. Getting the story through two different voices and personalities, makes it more appealing.

The creators of the music app Snoop, are holding a corporate retreat at a remote ski chalet.

We are introduced to an intriguing cast of characters, most of whom are young and beautiful. CEO Topher is a handsome and flashy guy, Eva is the fashionable and hot co founder. Miranda, is the smart & sophisticated PR person, and so on. The only dull and drab one in the entire group seems to be Liz, who is also one of the book’s narrators. The characters are nicely written and fleshed out.

The guests are trapped in the chalet due to an avalanche and one by one the characters start dying or disappearing. Which one among them is a cold blooded killer?

The ending of course has a twist, like all of Ruth Ware’s books. It will catch you by surprise. I recommend this book for people who love, mysteries, thrillers and whodunnits with a contemporary feel to them.

Thank you to the publisher, the author and NetGalley for providing me with a review copy of the book for an honest review.

I've been a fan of Ruth Ware for a long time and this book does not disappoint! This is Ware at her best! I love this type of whodunit mystery/thriller - and it was a mystery until the final reveal! At one point I suspected each one of the guests at the magnificent mountain chalet; I definitely did not figure this one out early on. The alternating points of view make it even more interesting, as does the setting - an isolated ski chalet, an avalanche, losing power and cell service - all combine to make a great thriller! There's more than one twist at the end that kept me up reading all night until I finished this! Perfection!

Eight coworkers working at a rustic ski resort get snowed in, and one by one, each start to turn up dead. Not to mention the new app called Snoop where you can geolocate your friends and are creepily able to listen to what they're listening to at the exact same time. Ware's fans won't be disappointed with this page turning thriller!

Absolutely loved it! I’m a huge Ruth Ware fan, and this title did not disappoint! It reminded me, to some degree, of IN A DARK, DARK WOOD, which is one of my favorite thrillers of all time.

In ONE BY ONE, the landscape, the alternating POVs, and the Snoop hierarchy make for an intriguing, dynamic read. As is typical of this author, plenty of twists and turns propel the narrative forward at break-neck speed. New revelations and shifting allegiances keep the ‘who-dunnit’ element alive throughout.

My favorite character is Danny because...how could it not be?! :)

Ruth Ware is a power house in the mystery/suspense genre, and I was in the mood for an isolation read amidst, you know, pandemic quarantine. So, I was thrilled to receive an eARC of One by One.

Snoop, a start-up music streaming app touting connection and anonymity, is holding a corporate retreat at a remote ski chalet. Alternating between Erin, the chalet's host, and Liz, the outlier with mysterious ties to the company, we meet a cast of quirky, hipster characters, from the hot-head CEO Topher who's used to getting his way, to Eva, the stylish and painfully ambitious co-founder who's hell-bent on monetizing the company before they go bankrupt. When an avalanche decimates part of the chalet and Eva is presumed dead, the remaining guests are forced to question each other, spinning a web of lies and suspicion that carries to the very last page.

First, I'd like to say that I loved this read. The Death of Mrs. Westaway was difficult for me to get through, and comparatively, I found this to be a much more interesting title. While there are certainly themes of merit and critiques on our reliance on social media, Ruth Ware has created an immersive, effortless read that is more of a distraction than a study. For this, I was engrossed. Breathing life into the staff and guests, the mountain itself becomes a character, and I could've been sitting in the room itself, snuggled up in front of the fire watching the hours tick by on the mantel as we waited for help. Ware nailed the dialogue and structure; having each chapter start with user stats was genius and added to the intrigue, helping us get to know the characters through song choice while enforcing an sub-layer of tension.

The plot, as a whole, is not terribly difficult to figure out. The characters discuss motives in detail, introducing doubt about alibis and motives and dismissing them just as quickly. The fun, then, is not in the "whodunit" but the "will he/she get away with it" aspect. Ware's exposition to get to the final climax is expertly built and executed, and I appreciated the skill in which she used the character arcs to push the tension. This is a very character driven novel, but the pace is quick and light in spite of the murders, a perfect read to take your mind off things or get lost in the mystery.

Overall, I really enjoyed One by One. Atmospheric, fun, and delightfully twisty, One by One is a winner.

Thank you to Gallery/Scout and NetGalley for providing an eARC in exchange for honest review consideration.

Fans of Ruth Ware will not be disappointed by her latest offering, One By One. It is a tense mystery filled with unlikable characters trapped in a beautiful mountain setting which quickly turned hostile. It is fast paced, atmospheric and definitely not to be read in the middle of a snowstorm!

Although I quickly figured out the who of the story, the why was a surprise. The reveals throughout the book were nice little discoveries, aided by the story being told from two alternating points of view. Seeing certain sequences through both sets of eyes added to the suspense toward the end.

Despite the fact that this was not my favorite book by this author, it’s still a fun story, well written and definitely worth reading.

My copy of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. My thanks to the the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review it.

Ruth Ware’s upcoming book, One by One, is a shocking, nail biting thriller that does not disappoint!! I loved this book, and appreciate that I got the opportunity to review it pre-publication.

Each one of Ruth Ware’s novels have a drastically different writing style, and I love her willingness to experiment and try new things. This book alternates between the viewpoints of 2 characters. Classic Ruth Ware throughout, however, in that you will not see all the twists coming, and you won’t be able to put it down! The tension ratchets up with each turn of the page, and I whipped through this book in a day.

One by One tells of a tech company, Snoop, on a corporate retreat. On this retreat, Snoop has to decide if they are going to sell to another company, or if they will take their company public. An avalanche traps them at the chalet where they were staying, and guests begin dying or disappearing. Is somebody taking advantage of the avalanche situation to manipulate voting shares of Snoop to their advantage? Or are these a series of unfortunate accidents? Can the chalet employees and shareholders trust each other, or is one of them a murderer? Ruth Ware will keep you guessing, and shock you with the ending!

Thank you to Simon and Schuster, Scout Press, and Ruth Ware for the opportunity to read this advance copy! Loved, loved, loved it!!! Pre-order this one!!

After loving The Turn of the Key, I didn’t think this could measure up. As it turns out, it was better. Set in a remote skiing chalet, the guests are being picked off one by one by a murderer. The characters were larger than life in my imagination, and I loved the idea of ‘Snoop’, a music based app. I suffocated through the second half of the book, unable to stop until the murderer was apprehended. Another amazing thriller!

I always jump on the latest Ruth Ware book as soon as possible, so I was very excited to get an advanced copy of this one! Sure enough, it has everything you have come to know and love in a Ruth Ware book: an Agatha Christie-esque setup in a very modern environment (this time a Swiss chalet full of dotcommers), a locked room, a set number of suspects telling the story from multiple perspectives, a glamorous and unusual locale, and of course, a murder (or four).

This story was a little low to start, but then again so are some of Agatha Christie’s. After the setup leads to the first murder things start moving quickly. I thought I had the killer figured out but I didn’t at all. The ending was a surprise but not an unfair one, with lots of good thrill. A solid, well-plotted read and another fun escapist murder mystery from Ruth Ware.

Thanks to NetGalley, Ruth Ware and Scout Press for the advance copy of the fun and twisty quarantine diversion in exchange for my honest review.

“One by One” is my first Ruth Ware book, but it certainly won’t be my last! Reminiscent of my favorite Agatha Christie classic, “One by One” is the type of riveting whodunit that I love to get lost in. While the bare bones of this mystery is built upon a tried-and-true premise, Ruth Ware delivers a fresh, updated version with her own unique twist. And I happily devoured every single word. Set against the backdrop of a French mountain chalet, “One by One” is a roller coaster ride for sure--one that will have you clinging to the edge of your seat!!

Ruth Ware has become a staple writer of isolation thrillers and One by One is just another great addition to her list! Set in an alpine ski resort, a company hosts a retreat where life changing decisions await. With conflicting ideas and everything on the line, tensions rise and boil over when an avalanche hits and a member goes missing in the snow. But is this merely a person caught in the wrong place at the wrong time or is this the work of something more nefarious? In an ode to Christie's "And Then There Were None", Ware balances the tensions amongst coworkers with the human reactions to natural and not so natural disaster. I will say that I was worried that yet another isolated cabin was going to read too much like "In a Dark Dark Woods" but this was completely different in the best ways possible. Definitely a must read for fans of psychological suspense or thrillers and I will continue to look forward to Ware's next piece!

Thank you to Netgalley, Ruth Ware, and Gallery books for the advanced read of "One by One"!

Ruth Ware has done it again! At first I was skeptical of the "trapped in the mountains" trope that seems to be played out often these days in the suspense/thriller genre but Ware creates a world full of suspense and twists worthy of the best accolades.

Wow! What a ride! Ruth Ware writes her take on the "locked-room" mystery and man does she deliver. I read this book in almost one sitting. I am a fan of Ruth Ware and I think this is her best book so far!

Ruth Ware....what a genius....I swear. She's been called the Agatha Christie of her generation by so many critics, and it's true....this book in particular though, is truly Ware at her best, with 10 company employees and 2 workers inside a fancy chalet in the French alps when an avalanche hits, and this fancy chalet turns into a house of horrors where people slowly begin to die "One By One".....

This book is so INTENSE once the action starts, it's gripping, and on a fast pace that you just can't wait to get to the next page and see what's going to happen next. And talk about a crazy reveal at the end.....she's going to blow readers minds with this one...I can't wait to discuss it with friends.

My only problems with the book is how she hits us right from the start with 12 main characters and you have to try to maintain the differences in your head, keeping them distinguished was difficult at first, the first 30% really could have used some editing. But I'll forgive her of any flaws because that last 75 pages was one of the best I've read in a book in a long time. I've long been a fan of Ruth Ware's, and even the couple of books of hers that I've read and only given 3 stars because of story problems like The Lying Game, I still don't regret having read them because her character writing is just that good....

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the digital review copy.

Ruth Ware never disappoints and One by One was another great thriller! This book had me hooked from the first page and racing to the finish. It's full of twists and turns and kept me guessing on every page. The author has a great way of connecting you with the characters and really feeling what they feel. Definitely recommend!

Ughh I hate to say this but I didn’t really enjoy this book... this is about Erin who works at a chalet in France and one weekend has employees of the company Snoop staying. However by the end of the story 4 of the 10 will be dead. I felt like a lot of the chapters really weren’t necessary and it kind of dragged on a bit. When I got towards the end of the book I actually winced when I finally thought I was finished only to flip the page and see another whole chapter. I mean there were probably 6 chapters just describing Erin and Liz skiing. I usually really enjoy Ruth Ware but unfortunately this wasn’t my favorite.

Ruth Ware is one of my favorite authors so I was thrilled for the opportunity to read One by One. I love how Ware can take a story and build so much tension into it from the very beginning. This was very atmospheric and even spooky at times. I was always waiting for something (or someone) to come out from around the corner or even behind one of the doors. I was on the edge of my seat for much of the book and didn't want to put it down. When the lights go out, the atmosphere is even darker. As a reader, I could feel the chill creeping in, the fear mounting and the suspense building more. The ending was great and tied up everything together.

Set in a beautiful chalet (in St. Antoine) with excellent mountain views, the Snoop corporate retreat sounds like the perfect getaway. What's meant to be a relaxing weekend full of team-building and collaboration turns into a nightmare when they come back from skiing and an avalanche hits. They realize one of them is missing. At first this seems like a tragic accident, until another colleague turns up dead. Fingers start getting pointed and arguments flare. Who can you trust when you don't get along with anyone else? The tension intensifies when another body is added to the list. Which one of them is a murderer and who is next?

One by One is very suspenseful. I highly recommend reading this, with the lights off of course!

Thank you to NetGalley and Gallery Books for this ARC.

This book didn’t wow me like the rest did even though it was really good. I definitely enjoyed the plot, the character dynamics, etc but I felt that I knew the situation the whole time and even when the bombs were dropped, I wasn’t surprised. Very fast read and enjoyable nonetheless!

Erin works as a hostess/maid at a very exclusive and secluded chalet ... in Switzerland? I’m not sure, but it’s not that important. Somewhere with a lot of snow, skiing and where they speak French. Erin is British and has a mysterious past. She and her friend/coworker Danny are the only employees who live in at the chalet. It’s expensive, as you can imagine, so the guests are wealthy and spoiled. The current group of guests arrive. They all work for an app called Snoop. Five of the ten guests are investors in the app and the others are employees. They all know each other pretty well except for Liz, who has not worked for Snoop for a few years but was involved in the initial stages of the company and owns a small percentage of ownership. The company has been offered a buyout. Two investors want to take it, the other two don’t, and Liz is caught in the middle. It’s the perfect setting for a murder mystery. I absolutely loved this book. My only complaint is that the ending dragged a little bit but otherwise this is a five star read. My love for Ruth Ware continues!!
