Firstly before I start my review, let me take a moment to show some real cover love, isn’t it amazing? I would pick this off a shelf just by the cover alone before I even read the back. The lady standing on the cliff looking out to sea, as the sun sets it so evocative and eye-catching, It would look amazing as a canvas print on your wall.

The Light at Wyndcliffe is the third book in the ‘Cornwall’ series by Sarah E. Ladd, this is the first I have read by Sarah and it will not be the last, I will definitely be seeking out the previous books in the ‘Cornwall’ series.

After inheriting Wyndcliff Hall, Liam Twethewey has been waiting to come of age to finally be able to take owner ship of the estate. Liam has big plans, he wants to bring so much good to the area and to the peoples lives. He is determined to finish what his uncle planned by opening up a china clay pit, but as with all well laid plans thing don’t exactly go as expected. Liam soon finds that this is where his life is going to get rather complicated, the estate is a wreck; it’s a shell of the glorious home it used to be and been left to wrack and ruin, and worse still the steward who has been looking after the estate is a little set in his ways and doesn’t want to relinquish control over to a young ‘un. At least the granddaughter; Evelyn isn’t as against him, in fact she enchanting, she is as mesmerizing as the spites and mermaids that sit on the rocks reeling the sailors into their doom…

Hmmm, I got a little carried away there…!

But it’s not just beautiful young women, gruff steward and a house that is falling down that Liam must contend with as not long after taking the reign’s there is a shipwreck on his property, which for Cornwall that’s not a huge surprise is it as it is the county of smugglers and shipwrecks, but the real mystery is the crew and their exploits. This is where the story really comes into it’s own, Evelyn and Liam are pushed together to find the truth of what is happening, they must solve the mystery ad untangle the intricately woven secrets, lies and deceits to find the truth.

For me, the real star attraction to this is the windswept, turbulent and beautiful Cornish coast which blinds and enchants, it’s evocative and mesmerising. Sarah Ladd has expertly captured the readers attention with her flawless and atmospheric writing. I was swept away on the blustery swirling coastal breeze and floating across the stunning countryside.

The Light at Wyndcliffe is a sweeping and gentle historical with a beautiful sweet romance, it’s rich in historical depth and emotion. Liam and Evelyn are a gorgeous couple, I love how their relationship and blossoming romance slowly gets brighter and brighter as they get to know each other. They are a gentle a tenderly loving couple who don’t push boundaries but go with their hearts and their brains, they work really well with each other especially when they are uncovering the mystery and I really liked how the author kept you guessing with them.

At some point you must make decisions for yourself and do what is best for you - Jenna to Evelyn

The author once again takes us to the moors of Cornwall, where many traditions rule the way of life. The sea plays a large part in those rather unsettling customs as this is an area where many ships meet an unfortunate end. Salvaging what they can, the villagers eke out a small income from those sales. Liam Twethewey not only inherits the Wyndcliff Estate from his uncle, but also the longstanding practice of storing the cargo from many of these shipwrecks. How can he possibly condone what is occurring on his own land? Will a rescue at sea help change these unwritten rules?

Evelyn Bray lives in the steward’s cottage along with her grandfather, the steward. This somewhat controlling relationship leads Jenna to make the comment above. But where can a young woman go in 1808, if she has no family to stand behind her?

With a great deal of detail, the author takes us walking on the moors, along the seashore and into what life must have been like in 1808. I could almost smell the sea and hear the waves crashing. This wonderful mystery will not be easy to set aside until you finally reach the conclusion.

This ARC of Book 3 in the Cornwall Novels was received through Thomas Nelson, HarperCollins Christian Publishing and NetGalley. The impressions and comments are my own and were in no way solicited.

A brilliant return to Cornwall! This story reads simply, yet has layers of mystery, intrigue, and emotions. I love the innocence of Evelyn yet her character displays layers of depth. She’s been all but abandoned by her mother, raised by her grandfather in a station less than her upbringing, and still maintains her sweet, hopeful spirit. Liam may be young, but he knows exactly what he wants. I love how his strength and conviction is so vividly captured. Liam is ready to take up the helm as master of Wyndcliff but is not prepared for all the distractions such as shipwrecks and smuggling. Nothing is what is seems and together, Evelyn and Liam must get to the bottom of these things before they can each find what their heart truly desires. The writing is lyrical and beautiful commanded my attention and emotions the whole way through. Highly recommended for all clean regency romance fans. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are my own, freely given.

The Light at Wyndcliff was an intriguing book that had me wondering who the bad guys were and who the main characters should trust. I enjoyed the mystery aspect of it as well as the historical aspect of smuggling and china clay pits. I recommend this book for those who enjoy historical fiction with a bit of mystery. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I have enjoyed reading several of Sarah Ladd's books but I really enjoyed this one, in particular. There is so much to capture a reader's attention. A young woman who has essentially abandoned by her mother and left with her grandfather who has lost his fortune and is now the steward for a neighboring estate. Evelyn doesn't put on airs and enjoys helping the cook at the manor. She has a good heart and is mostly happy. Then the new master of the estate, Liam arrives. He is a handsome man who she is sure would never be interested in her.

The description of the Cornwall seaside with its rugged cliffs and dangers for ships is beautiful. There is smuggling, kidnapping, romance, intrigue, betrayal and so much more this book has to offer. In the end, there is a happy ending for most of the characters.

This is a clean story without foul language or graphic intimate details.

I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.

3.9 stars
The story is set in Cornwall in the 1820s, with its rugged coastline and open moorlands. The book starts with a focus on Evelyn Bray’s life and how it changes with the entry of Liam Twethewey, the new owner of the Wyndcliff Hall.
The duo has to struggle through the shipwrecks that seem to have a sinister cause than the raging waves of the sea. Evelyn’s grandfather, Rupert Bray, the steward of Wyndcliff, appears to be one man to his granddaughter and another to others, especially Liam.
When shipwreck survivors (a child and her mother) are housed in the estate, Evelyn naturally takes the responsibility of caring for them.
Evelyn is uncovering, rather, overhearing conversations that make her doubt many things. She is troubled and pained by her mother’s attitude. Her attraction for Liam is another burden on her fragile shoulders.
Liam realizes the sad state of the estate and knows he needs to get started on the clay pits to start earning. He doesn’t know whom to trust, except Evelyn. His feelings for her grow stronger, but many things come in the way.
The book goes at a steady pace. It is neither too mysterious nor exactly romantic. Both genres have been touched with a light hand. The mystery part is more, but it’s easy to guess what’s going on and what will happen.
For his age, he is quite matured and capable. Evelyn is sensible and yet vulnerable. The other characters were interesting. But I wish some of them had more meat. Even Rupert Bray needed more scenes to do justice to the intricacies of his characters. Probably because the book had to fit into the clean historical genre, the author didn’t explore the flaws and gray shades in depth.
Overall, it is an engaging book with a mild mystery and a teeny bit of romance with a happy-ever-after at the end. It’s not too deep or complicated. You can just go with the flow.

Liam has just inherited Wyndcliff Estate. He plans to make this estate profitable. He is investigating opening a China clay pit to help the tenants and the estate survive. However, after a shipwreck, which happened on the shores of Wyndcliff, Liam realizes there is more going on under his nose and he must put a stop to it.

Evelyn is living with her grandfather, the steward of Wyndcliff. She has been living with him since the death of her father and the abandonment of her mother. But, with the arrival of the new owner, Liam, her grandfather has become a different person.

I enjoyed the gothic feel of this read. The strange cliffs, the mysterious shipwrecks, the strange happenings with the tenants really create a good mystery. And the connection between Liam and Evelyn just add fuel to the fire!

This is an enthralling gothic romance. I needed something different and this one hit me at the perfect time.

Need a quick, suspenseful romance…this is it!

I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review.

I adored The Light at Wyndcliff just as much as the prior two books in the Cornwall series by Sarah Ladd. Like I've said before, clean Regency romance is one of my favorite genres. Since I enjoyed the first two books, I had high hopes for this one. It didn't disappoint me at all. Well, a couple of the characters disappointed me with their actions, but that's to be expected!

The setting just mesmerized me. Those moors. That rough sea. Oh, Cornwall. How I long to visit you! Though the manor that Liam Twethewey has inherited has been mostly neglected in recent years, Liam doesn't let it stop him from moving in and moving forward with his goals to mine china clay from the land.

I love how Ladd brings the characters to life. They've got so much depth. They're very human with both strengths and weaknesses. and she hides neither.

I also love the fact that I always learn something new in this series! Though smuggling played a part in book 2, I didn't realize how many shipwrecks occurred along parts of the Cornish coast.

Of course, I loved how the romance developed between Evelyn and Liam developed. This is another winner in my book!

Cornwall - 1820 Wyndcliff Estate

Liam Twethewey, 22, has arrived to take control of Wyndcliff Estate. His predecessor passed away some time ago and the estate was in the hands of the steward, Mr. Bray, who until he lost his fortune was the owner of Wyndcliff. Now Bray lives in Wyndcliff Cottage with his granddaughter, Evelyn Bray, 20. Evelyn’s mother moved to live with relatives after the death of her husband and the financial downfall of her husband’s father. She left behind her daughter Evelyn. Liam is very surprised at Bray’s take control attitude of his home and does not hesitate to put the man in his place.

Liam plans to pursue a china clay pit on the land that should be a booming business. Thus, he hopes to employ a lot of local people so all of them can profit.

When a shipwreck occurs, everyone around helps to rescue survivors and the bounty on the ship. A mother and her young daughter wash ashore. The mother is in a coma but the little girl is fine. It is the kind Evelyn who takes the child in hand and cares for her.

Liam learns how difficult all this shipwreck business is and how the bounty is maintained. There is something sinister about it all and Liam is determined to find out what is going on.

Before long Liam finds himself attracted to the lovely Evelyn and she to him. But when things heat up causing lots of problems at Wyndcliff, Liam, Evelyn, and others find themselves embroiled in a battle to save the estate.

This is yet another good book by Sarah E. Ladd. I have read and reviewed a number of her books and find myself to be a huge fan. There is drama, courage, and love in this book. Don’t miss it.

Copy provided by NetGalley and Edelweiss in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Twenty two year old Liam Twetheway arrives at Wyndcliff Hall to claim his inheritance. His eagerness to start the next phase of his life as a landowner is dampened by the hostile reception he receives from his steward, Rupert Bray. Bray is an important man in the area despite a fall from grace and is used to running things his own way. He doesn't take kindly to Liam's unannounced arrival and views him as an upstart who will ruin the estate and the lives of those who depend on it. Liam resents Bray's attitude towards him and refuses to be intimidated, but is astute enough to realise that if he is to set the estate to rights and bring prosperity back to the village of Pevlyn and his tenants, he needs Bray. With or without Bray's approval, Liam intends to resurrect his great uncle's plans for a china clay pit on the moor, which will provide ongoing employment and income as the mineral is an essential ingredient in porcelain manufacture.

Being a newcomer and not privy to the long held secrets of the village, Liam faces the challenge of knowing who to trust. The only person he does trust is Evelyn, his steward's granddaughter. Daily life at Wyndcliff Hall throws Liam and Evelyn together constantly, but Liam is mindful of Bray's warning regarding Evelyn and doesn't act on his feelings.

When a ship is wrecked during a storm, Liam offers refuge to the only two survivors, a child and her mother, even though Bray advises against it. This causes further unrest, which leads to the exposure of Pevlyn's secrets and heartache for Evelyn when she must choose where her loyalties lie.

The Light at Wyndcliff is another captivating novel from Sarah E. Ladd. Embedded in this dramatic tale of smugglers and wreckers is a lovely romance that develops slowly between two characters hard not to like. Liam is an unassuming hero and, although very young to have control of an estate, is a man of integrity, determined to earn the respect and trust of his tenants. Evelyn is kind, caring, sensible and courageous; the perfect partner for Liam.

The Light at Wyndcliff, despite being the final book of a trilogy, can be enjoyed as a standalone. Fans of Sarah E. Ladd will love it and I'm sure it will also appeal to those, like me, who can't resist historical fiction set in Cornwall, especially when smugglers are involved.

The Light at Wyndcliff is the third book in the Cornwall series. I didn’t read the first two books but it didn’t stop me from reading this one in a standalone way.
It was a perfect read for this autumn as the book is filled with mysteries and slowly developing romance.
It can be easily anyone’s favorite. From the classical literature Jane Eyre was one of my favorite book and reading this novel gave me a little bit of this vibe mixed with Jane Austen’s works.

When it first started, I didn't like the characters that much. and the story seemed to be so sad that I almost gave up. I am glad that I stuck with it. The characters became more likeable and the plot became more intriguing. I couldn't put the book down as I got farther into the book. It is a compelling story!

I love Regency romance! This one had a great slow burn romance and a dangerous mystery. I have loved all of these Cornwall novels, but I think this one is my favorite. It's very atmospheric, and the characters have great chemistry. I highly recommend this whole series.

I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley for the purpose of review, and I also purchased a copy for myself.

This was a good story- reminiscent of Poldark. I enjoyed the smuggling storyline. I enjoyed the romance between the main characters, but wish we'd seen more of their interactions! Much of it was implied. Although the answer to the mystery was fairly easy to discover, it was fun to see how all the loose ends were resolved. A good book!

Whipping Winds and Greatcoats, Crashing Waves and Wonderful Romance!

I absolutely adore 'the Light at Wyndcliff' and was super eager for this book to have been released. I have read all of Sarah E. Ladd's books to date, and they keep getting better and better! I am very drawn to a book with an attractive confluence of character names, setting and plot. This book has it all! The heroine's name, Evelyn, drew me in...I have always loved that name for a strong, yet feminine heroine. And Liam...ooh Liam! Every step he took felt like I was experiencing these steps with him. And it helps that I am attracted to him! It was so great to see him grown and learning about his new property. I love the dynamic and sweet romance between Liam and Evelyn. And set against the backdrop of Cornwall, picturing coasts, shipwrecks, whipping wind, crashing waves and flapping greatcoats transported me to time and place. Anything set along a coast in Regency England invites an aura of mystery, and readers will have that and more with this book...full of wonderful writing, character descriptions, and dialogue! Beautiful!! :) I definitely recommend this book and cannot wait for the next!! :)

Who needs TV and movies when you have this delightful book to keep you entertained?! Your imagination is sure to run wild as you cozy in with this truly engaging story.

I found myself talking to the characters in the story while I read, as if they could hear me. This story so captured my imagination that I felt like I was in it with Liam and Evelyn. On more than one occasion wishing I could give a good shake to one or a friendly hug of encouragement to another. By the end of the story I was both satisfied with the outcome and heart-sore to leave the Wyndcliff Hall, Liam, Evelyn and the others behind.

The Cornwall series gains another mysterious and suspenseful novel with its latest addition, The Light at Wyndcliff. Pulling readers into the storyline within the first few pages, regency era and historical fiction lovers will not want to miss this book!

The Light at Wyndcliff follows a grown-up Liam Twethewey, who has recently come of age to assume his position at the estate he inherited from his great-uncle, Wyndcliff Hall. Upon arrival, however, things do not go as Liam expected. With a ship crashing in his moor and evident misdealing happening on his land, Liam must take charge and learn to make decisions quickly as danger lurks right around the next corner. Unsure who he can trust, Liam finds an ally in Evelyn Bray, the steward’s granddaughter, but when alliances are tested, the people Liam thought he could trust could turn into his greatest enemies.

A page-turner that will keep you on your toes until the very end, The Light at Wyndcliff is the perfect book to snuggle up with as the weather grows colder. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel. Liam and Evelyn's perspectives were perfect, the writing marvelous, the suspense engrossing, and the romance sweet and pure! Sarah E. Ladd has quickly become one of my favorite regency era novelists! I haven’t enjoyed a series this much all year and will be praying that this is not the last installment!

The Light of Wyndcliff is the third book in Sarah E. Ladd's Cornwall Novels series. While I have personally enjoyed the series and would recommend reading them all anyway, this could definitely be read as a standalone.

In this book, we meet Liam Twethewey as he is making an unexpected arrival at the property he has inherited from his late uncle--- Wyndcliff Hall. Upon his arrival, he meets Evelyn Bray who has lived at the property her entire life as the granddaughter of the steward. Shortly after his arrival, a shipwreck leads to the rescue of a child and her mother, throwing the Evelyn and Liam together in their efforts to care for the two survivors... and find out the mystery surrounding the numerous shipwrecks in the area. It is a story with action and romance all wrapped up in one great story. I so enjoyed getting to know these characters, they were such genuine characters that it was hard not to like them as individuals, but even moreso together. While there was a lot of action and intrigue within the story, I didn't find it to be super fast paced, which worked well for this story.

Overall, this is a great story that fans of Regency romance are sure to enjoy.

**I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher for consideration. All thoughts are my own.

Some regency's tend to be a little boring but not The Light at Wyndcliff! This book has plenty of excitement as Liam Twethewey, the heir of the Wyndcliff estate, comes of age and comes to take charge! The steward is not anxious to give over his control! Mysterious shipwrecks happen off the coast! Survivors of the first shipwreck are a four year old girl and her mother who is unconscious for several days! Evelyn Bray has lived with her grandfather all of her life after her father's death. Liam and Evelyn are excellent main characters in this book. They work to care for the shipwreck survivors and learn things are not as they appear! Sarah Ladd has done an excellent job with this third book in the Cornwall series. I recommend The Light at Wyndcliff to others who enjoy stories set on the Cornwall coast. I received an advance e-book from NetGalley, This is my honest opinion.
