I LOOVEED IT!!!!! Thank you to the publisher for the gifted copy!
I was overjoyed to pick up Alexa Martin’s 4th book in the Playbook Series, Snapped (#SHOOTYOURSHOT) and I started it on Sunday.....YOU GUYS! PREORDER PREORDER PREORDER!!! It’s due to be released on October 20,2020 and covers topics of racism, racial disparities, especially within the NFL, taking a knee and what it really means, tokenism, micro-aggression and just enough steam to entice you......Listen, you name it, it’s in this book!
If you know me, you know I love this series and I am completely heartbroken that there isn’t another book in the lineup yet BUT like I told Alexa last night, I am speaking it into existence for her (and me 😉)!!!! Snapped is by far the more heavier of content/topics of the 4 books so far, so if she decides to end the playbook series with Snapped, then she is going out with a bang!

When Elliot gets a job as PR for the Denver Mustangs, the last thing she expects is to be put in charge of Quinton- the player who has decided to take the knee during the anthem. You guys- this book is SO timely with BLM and such an amazing, moving, and romantic read. It’s definitely my fav in this series.
What I loved:
🏈The way the author tackled both Quinton’s decision to kneel on behalf of the mistreatment of black players in the league was so powerful. I also loved Elliot’s character ARC and her journey when it came to her identity as a bi racial woman. It was wonderful to see how her opinion of Quinton’s actions progresses throughout.
🏈Although this book is quite emotional compared to the others in the series, the writing style remains accessible and funny. It really made for an enjoyable read.
🏈I really liked both Quinton and Elliot as characters. They were so likeable, both with backstories I wanted to root for!
Massive thank you to Berkley, Alexa Martin, and Netgalley for access to this great read! 💖

So I DNFed this book and not because it's bad. It was really hard for me to read about a Colin Kaepernick-type hero when I know how badly the NFL treated him and his protests. Like there's no happy ending there in real life. I'm not sure how the protest storyline will resolve in fiction, but I imagine it'll be better than real life.
And I just can't do it. I can't suspend reality to enjoy this storyline when I know how terrible the NFL is re: the BLM protests. So I feel badly about it, but I have to DNF.
