I read this Asterix story in the same way I think of the beloved cartoons in my youth. They were often one note (Jerry always does grievous bodily harm to Tom; Asterix and Obelix always beat up legions of Romans); problematic by our standards (the portrayal of cross dressing in Bugs Bunny; the depictions of Africans in Asterix); and predictable (the roadrunner always gets away; the Gauls always win). So while I'm not sure I'd recommend this to a kid these days, I do have to admit I did have some nostalgic enjoyment reading it.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

This book is so nostalgic to me of my childhood. I remember flicking through these as a child but not being able to really read them properly. These are such great books set in historical times and even though the book is only 48 pages long it is a quick fire journey but becomes a full story at the same time. These comic books are so cleverly done and I love the bright contrast full artwork displayed throughout the book.

Thank you so much for the book approval. I've been reading Asterix & Obelisk since childhood and really love the comics. It was fun to read this.

For kids who love Tintin. Will make a nice addition to graphic novel collections for children in most libraries.

This was a fun read. Asterix and Obelix always offer up some fun adventures and this was definitely one of those fun adventures. The art is great and there are many fun and witty things with the story.

What another hilarious outting for Asterix and Obelix. I read this book with a grin stuck to my face as those clever Gauls outfox the Romans once again! Highly, highly recommended.

This comic is hilarious. I was allowed access to only the story of Asterix and the Banquet. There are 2 more stories contained in #2. The graphics were colorful and well done. It was easy to follow from frame to frame. A lot of nostalgia from Asterix and Obelix. What I didn't like was the compact pages. This made the read a little harder.

So, as part of the release of Asterix Omnibus #2, I was given a preview of the one of the stories (out of the three) covered in this volume, Asterix and the Banquet. This review refers to that story.

For those of us unfamiliar with the Asterix series: The Romans have invaded and conquered all of Gaul with the exception of one village holding out. How do they do it? By a combination of intelligence, cunning, and (of course) a secret potion that gives them strength. Our main character, Asterix, is the one with most of the cunning and intelligence. His constant companion, Obelix, is the brute force (he fell into a cauldron of the magic potion as a child and has perpetual strength) who is always hungry for boar.

This time Roman General Overanxious decides that since he can’t beat this Gallic village, he will build a stockade and isolate them. Asterix, of course, is offended and vows to escape the stockade and travel throughout Gaul as is his right, picking up local specialties, and have a banquet at the end with the bounty he picked up. And so Asterix and Obelix take off across Gaul (France), quickly stopping at each town and outwitting whatever Roman/traitorous Gaul/pirate/etc. they run up against.

As this is a whirlwind tour, the stops are rather short and the story moves from place to place rapidly, feeling rushed and not leaving much time to develop a story. And if you haven’t read the previous four stories, some of the people/jokes will not make much sense (for example, if you haven’t read about their pirate encounter previously). But still fun - enjoyable quick read, the puns, names, and Latin exclamations will make you laugh.

I requested and received a free advanced electronic copy from Papercutz via NetGalley. Thank you!

I have never read any comics of Asterix before. I did watched some animated movies, and enjoyed them, but now I definitely prefer the comics. Loved the story, and even though some jokes might be repetitive, it’s a delightful read. The plot is not just funny, but it also has its fair share of suspense. Also, the art is so vibrant and colorful that you can’t stop reading.
I’m really looking forward to the next volume!

I grew up loving Asterix and Obelix and after reading this story I’m reminded why I loved these stories so much! They are such fun! Fun art, fun writing, fun story. Very playful and thoughtful with a lot of little details to reward the observant reader.

I admit the big part of my rating is made of nostalgia. Not only do I adore author's specific art style, but historical setting and comedy that these stories bring to readers are definitely the best. The Gaul village that's resisting Roman occupation by using magical elixir? Yes, please. And not only that. Goscinny created some of the most memorable and funniest characters ever (not only iconic duo of Asterix and Obelix, but also some of the side characters).

Asterix and the Banquet focuses on bet between Gauls and Romans. Gauls are supposed to make a big feast out of products made all over the France. Asterix and Obelix are sent on an epic journey with Romans in tow, trying to sabotage their effort. Every part of the story brings different shenanigans that you'll definitely laugh at. Compared to other Asterix stories, it's definitely one of the more light-hearted ones.

don't have to any previous knowledge of the plot to start Asterix comics. You are free to start whenever you like and I think this omnibus is a great way to try.

An omnibus featuring the next three books in the Asterix and Obelix series. These were my childhood go to books and I am happy I can now read them in digital form. Thank you Net Galley for accepting my request to read this omnibus.

I have loved Asterix since I was a child. This Omnibus was a complete delight. The art is magnificent and the jokes have only gotten better with time. I spent the whole time with a smile on my face. Asterix is amazing and this new omnibus will give more people the chance to fall in love with the books.

It is a delight to see these wonderful characters and stories again. Now that they have been translated into English from French (which is the language I read them in) here is hoping that they will reach a larger audience and delight readers young and old.

A fun and satirical farce of the fun loving Gauls of Asterix and his fat buddy. When the Romans try to fence them in, Asterix makes a bet he can get out and travel around Gaul and bring make food for a feast. A hilarious romp ensures, and makes for a great read. Truly enjoyed this one, and highly recommend it. I've seen some of the movies, so it is nice to read the comics too.

The book was blank with only black pages and nothing in it. I couldn't read anything and couldn't see anything in it. I am extremely disappointed with this. I love asterix, I really wish I could read it.

I have to confess to having a soft spot for Asterix and Obelix that I'm fully aware makes it impossible to judge this without fond childhood memories of trying to read a couple of French copies my mom had. I barely understood the writing but I loved the images. To read this in a language I understand beyond kindergarten/first grade level is a delight.
As an adult, the amount and quality of the written jokes is almost as brilliant as the chuckle-worthy sight gags that make up most of the panels. It does get a tad repetitive with the jokes being pretty much the same over and over, but I think that's part of its charm.
The art is instantly appreciable for its short, stubby bodies and giant noses. Combine it with bright colors and you've got something that's as fun to look at as it is to read. As my attempts at reading French when I could barely read my native language can attest.
Huge thanks to Netgalley and Papercuts for letting me read it.
