This is the second book I've attempted of Larson's, and like the other one I read, I found parts of it compelling and other parts really boring. I want to like his books - he chooses topics that sound intriguing on paper - but he bogs down the story with details that are too long and arduous. Unfortunately, I gave up on this one.

I am new to reading Erik and found that he just isn't for me. Thank you for letting me try! I really appreciate the opportunity.

Though parts were enjoyable, I found it difficult to keep my attention held over the length of the full book. I predict this may be more enjoyable over audiobook where the less enthralling sections are read to you while your hands and mind can be occupied with doing the dishes or driving the car until your attention peaks again. The way Larson captivates a time period is fascinating and worthy of note. However, it felt the connection between his two proponents in this particular book was not as captivating as one might have hoped.
