M/F Romance

Ellie really enjoys her job. She loves writing and getting into a story. When her uncle is murdered and she goes home to try and figure out why, she is confronted with a past that she thought was behind her. Ellie is trying to get her past and present to mesh, but it's proving more difficult.

Devlin is a mystery for most of this story. He has a past that nobody really knows about and he has a personality that is both alpha male and dangerous bully, all wrapped in a delicious package. His past has dictated who he became as an adult, but he never forgot the first love in his life either.

Ellie and Devlin have to navigate their current situation, learning whether or not they can trust each other, and with their growing attraction getting in the way, they will have obstacles, large and small, to fight against. This is a fantastic story with a lot of angst, sexiness, and alpha behavior. While it doesn't exactly end on a cliff hanger, there most definitely is more to the story and I can't wait to read it.

I am a huge fan of J. Kenner, and so was delighted to get this first book in the series as soon as I could. There is always the danger with this kind of series that you know going in that there is no resolution, and often you end on more questions than answers. I have to say I am grateful that it did not end on the kind of cliffhanger that just takes your breath away – but rather a new mystery to solve.

Overall, I really enjoyed the plot, and the writing is, as always with Kenner, excellent. I read the story in no time at all, as I wanted to know what happened next, why, and to whom. That said, I found the backstory to why they knew each other sometimes made Ellie in particular seem very immature. I like that she is no simpering beauty, but a woman with a cop career behind her and now is an investigative journalist, but... I did find it difficult to believe that she had never done any of the digging that she does now, before. I am still confused by that. But I went with it, and we do get a plot-twisting tale with a very hot burgeoning romance spilling out at the sides.

I feel you need to read it, so I don't risk revealing the wrong detail, and I am sure that you will be as curious as I am as to how this will move forward in the next installment.

Wow, get ready for a wild ride. Honestly if you've read any of J. Kenner's work you should be prepared for the unexpected.

Ellie Holmes is an investigative reporter seeking to uncover who committed a murder. She's used to loss in her life and it makes her willing to take risks others might not. When she's assigned to do a piece on Devlin Saint Foundation she's forced to face some of her own demons.
Devlin Saint is an enigmatic businessman and philanthropist. He's also hiding in the shadows of secrets. Providing Ellie details for her article comes at a great risk to them both. Yet the time for confessions may help protect them both.

„He doesn't look like a saint at all. Instead he's a fallen angel.”

My Fallen Saint is a romantic suspense at its best! J. Kenner delivered a captivating story, full of secrets, lies and unexpected twists and turns. This book is just as sexy as it is angsty. Every page is filled with intense emotions and shocking revelations. It's the perfect introduction to Devlin and Ellie’s story and I'm here for it all!

Devlin is a complicated man with a turbulent past. He’s an enigma, but there’s something about him that draws you in. And when you peel his layers, you fall in love with him more and more. He’s an alpha who knows what he wants, he’s controlling, commanding and sinfully delicious!

Ellie has her own tragic past. But despite the loss and hurt she experienced she is strong, fierce and brave. She won't let anyone push her around.

Ellie and Devlin had an immediate chemistry. The push and pull between these two almost drove me to the brink of insanity. The tension kept me at the edge of the seat and I loved how slowly they were tearing each other’s walls up, how their physical relantionship evolved into more. There are still many secrets to unravel, and I can't wait to discover them all!

My Fallen Saint is a great introduction to the new intriguing world created by J. Kenner. The storyline is a perfect mix of present and the past, filled with passion, angst and mystery. I was completely captivated from start to finish and I’m looking forward to read more in this series!

*Beware of possible spoilers*

Ellie has lost everything in her life. She lost both of her parents at a young age, and so her Uncle Peter moved to town to raise her. Her first love was a boy that worked for her uncle, Alex Leto, and she lost both men on the same night. Her uncle was murdered and Alex came to her that night to comfort her. Alex finally gave into his desires that night, but was gone when Ellie woke in the morning.

Ellie finished school and became a cop, like her dad. However, after a few years, she decided it wasn’t the life for her. She picked up and moved to New York and became an investigative journalist, leaving the horrors of the town behind.

However, her Uncle Peter’s murder case has been reopened once it was discovered the person who confessed wasn’t in town on that night. Ellie has come back to Laguna Cortez to find out who was responsible for his death and to hopefully get some closure over Alex as well. Although she never expected the local billionaire philanthropist, Devlin Saint, to be none other than Alex!

I always enjoy Kenner’s books. Always! And, this one was no exception! I felt it did have a slow build-up, but once it got started, I couldn’t put it down for long!

I, or course, loved Devlin! He would do anything to protect Ellie, even walking away. It’s that protectiveness of his that has him trying to push her away and get her back to New York, where she belongs! Of course the heroines never quite do what the men in these books want! And, for his sake it’s probably a good thing!

I found this book relevant with the things going on in our current society. One of the things that Devlin has put a lot of money into is rescuing and rehabilitating victims of human trafficking. That has become a huge issue in the real world recently so it was nice to see that tie between this work of fiction and real life. Now, if only we had a billionaire to step up in our world like Devlin has in his!

However, Devlin is far from perfect. He has plenty of skeletons in his closet. One, in particular, could send Ellie running forever.

I enjoyed this book and I am excited to see that it appears it will be a long running series, much like Kenner’s Stark books (which I still need to read)! The ending of this one has me salivating for the next book in the series, My Beautiful Sin! I. CAN’T. WAIT!

What a great start to a new series. Devlin Saint is a man no one would be able to forget. Ellie And Devlin have great chemistry. J. Kenner never fails to deliver strong characters with great chemistry. Looking forward to the next book.

J Kenner knows how to construct brilliant, dangerous, and secretive alpha males - ones who do whatever it takes to create their flawed personas but never factor in just how easily the right woman can bring them to their knees. And boy has she crafted a doozy of a storyline for her latest hero and heroine, Devlin Saint and Ellie Holmes, and while it appears, at first, that these two are on different sides, fighting against each other, not alongside, but then their attraction and desire for one another begins to take centerstage and regardless of the multitude of times Saint pushes Ellie away, refusing to allow her close enough to truly know him or to learn his secrets, Ellie wants her forever but outside factors seem to not want that to be.

First thing for readers to understand and work past is the fact that both Devlin and Ellie will frustrate readers as well as confound them due to both of their words and actions. He’s constantly pushing Ellie away, warning her of who he was and is and that he’s dangerous to be around, and while I get that Ellie wants to be a part of his life and that their connection is strong, she pushes too hard and seems desperate at times, which doesn’t look good on her or show the strong, confident and driven woman she is.

Kenner’s ability to create a complex and ever-changing air of mystery in her stories is one of the reasons that her readers are consistently drawn in to her worlds and those who reside in them and then when she adds in the insane chemistry between the hero and heroine, despite what they must contend with, both individually and together, it makes for one intriguing read.

The layers present in My Fallen Saint’s story line cannot be unraveled too quickly because they involve so many moving parts in non-linear patterns, which means that the build-up of all the subplots and players that have major roles in the main conflict will make readers work for every puzzle piece, every sliver of important information, every unearthed secret, and every answer that may not actually be whole.

Bring on book two!

Devlin has created an organization to help victims get justice and make the world a better place. Ellie is back where she grew up, the place she swore she would never return after her uncle was murdered and the love of her life disappeared without a trace, to do a story on the Devlin Saint Foundation. Ellie and Devlin come face-to-face and when Ellie realizes Devlin is Alex, she wants answers. As Devlin and Ellie grow closer to each other and the secrets of the past are revealed they threaten to tear them apart again.

"He doesn't look like a saint at all. Instead, he's a fallen angel. A man with power and poise and a dangerous edge. And right now, he's looking at me with so much heat it's a wonder I don't melt into the leather." - Ellie, My Fallen Saint by J. Kenner

My Fallen Saint is the beginning of the Fallen Saint series and Devlin and Ellie's story and I can not wait to continue their story in My Beautiful Sin. The suspense and mystery had me glued to the pages and not wanting to put the book down. The prospect of an epic story is building as the chemistry between Ellie and Devlin (Alex) is hot and the friends in the background lend to the story. Ellie's constant complaining about how mad she was at Alex started to bother me as it went on most of the book. The cliff-hanger is not very bad and leaves you wanting more. This was my first J. Kenner book and I will be adding her to my TBR pile.

My Fallen Saint is the first book in the Fallen Saints series by J. Kenner. Devlin Saint is a complex man of mystery. No one knows much about his background or where his money came from. He’s dedicated his life and fortune to fighting the sex trafficking trade. When former cop turned journalist Ellie Holmes returns to her childhood home town to interview him and also to lay some of the ghosts that haunt her to rest she finds the past might be more recent than she first thought. What secrets is Devlin hiding and how do they involve Ellie?

This angst filled book has left me with a lot of unanswered questions. Every time I think I have a handle on what I think is really going on, something else happens that turns everything on its head. Both the hero and heroine have family issues, Devlin with the long reaching influence of his father and also the guilt he feels over his own actions as a teenager and with Ellie everyone she has ever loved has left her, albeit unwillingly, leaving her with abandonment issues. There is a serious chemistry between them but neither are in the market for anything long term so they both seem happy with what is little more that a series of one night stands. I have to be honest and say I really didn’t like the character of Ellie very much. She’s a bit of a cliché pining away for a boy she met when she was 16 and who she didn’t really have what you could call a meaningful relationship with but its like this has shaped her life more than the loss of pretty much her entire family. I did however like her friend Brandy but I have my suspicions about her new boyfriend. He’s almost too good to be true and I think he has an ulterior motive.

While this book ends on a slight cliffhanger you do get a ‘happily ever after …. if only for now’ ending. There are still a lot of secrets to be exposed.

I didn't know where this was going at the beginning but I was intrigued. The writing sucks you in from the very first page and the characters and the sizzling chemistry had me unable to put this down. The twists and turns, secrets and lies is what had me on edge! I loved it!

Ahhhh! A brand new series by J. Kenner and I lived for it! There are a lot of twists and turns that will keep you on your toes and begging for more. There is sizzle and passion that will have you swooning. You have intense moments that will have you breathless. I loved that there was a level of angst in this book as well. 3.5 stars... I struggled with the beginning and it took a while to be invested in this one. Although there’s chemistry between Devlin and Ellie, there was a lot of push and pull, hot and cold moments. The storyline has promise and gets going towards the end leaving you wanting for more.

Investigative reporter Ellie Holmes didn’t have the easiest childhood. Losing everyone she loved caused her to flee her home town with no plans of ever returning. However that’s exactly where she now finds herself. Determined to try and uncover the mystery of who killed her uncle, she decides to combine solving this mystery with her interview of the enigmatic philanthropist, Devlin Saint. After inheriting billions, Devlin is now set on helping the underprivileged. But there’s much more to Devlin than meets the eye and suddenly Ellie finds herself caught in a web of intrigue and passion. Can Ellie uncover the mystery behind her uncle’s murder? And will she uncover Devlin’s secrets at the same time...

Devlin Saint is just the kind of mysterious and brooding male lead I love to read about. But Ellie was a breath of fresh air in some respects. After having her heart broken by her first love, she doesn’t let any man get too close. Instead she takes what she wants from them and leaves before anything gets too serious. Not the typical behaviour for most female leads. It’s usually the male characters that get the sexual satisfaction they crave and then leave, sometimes without even getting a name. I loved this twist and was cheering her on to show the men who’s boss!

But once Ellie met Devlin the chemistry was undeniable and led to some very steamy moments.

Packed full of passion, danger and intrigue this was a brilliant read.

The story ends on a small cliffhanger and sets up book two nicely, which I will definitely be picking up.

If you have read J. Kenner's romantic suspense stories before, this one is just as good, if not better than the others. J. Kenner has a way of throwing so many curveballs your way that you have no idea which way the story line is going. You think you know...and then...BAM....it changes direction. Be prepared as you read this story....you will not always know what is going on and it does end on a slight cliffhanger.

Ellie Holmes life has been filled with lots of heartache. Her mom died when she was young; her dad died in the line of duty; her uncle Peter was murdered; and her first love, Alex, just up and left her right after he took her virginity. Ellie now lives in New York City but has made a trip back to Laguna Cortez, CA, her hometown, to write an article on Devlin Saint, an international philanthropist. While Ellie is back in Laguna Cortez she is also going to investigate her uncle's murder to see if she can uncover anything.

As Ellie spends time with Devlin, she realizes he is keeping a huge secret. Devlin may be a guy who helps the underdog and fights for their justice but he also has a dark side. Just as things start to heat up between Ellie and Devlin, all hell breaks loose and Ellie's world comes crashing down around her. Just when she thinks she has everything figured out, it ends up that Devlin may have more hidden secrets than she first thought.

I really liked Ellie. She was a kick butt, take no prisoner type of girl. Because of things from her past, she loves to live life in the fast lane. She also drives a 1965 Ford Shelby Mustang.....my favorite type of car! I really liked Devlin too. He is a perfect damaged, alpha male. Deep down he has good intentions, just it doesn't always seem that way on the surface. I can't wait to see when Ellie and Devlin's story is going to take us next!
