Without using large words, please know this book was impressive and reminded me of growing up with too many English majors ;o) Which was the purpose of the book - speak plainly. Very good book, great illustrations. Kudos to both author and illustrator! Solid 4 of 5 stars.

NOTE: I received an e-galley of book from NetGalley and the Publisher in exchange for my review.

What a delightful book! Mr. Mouthful is a sophisticated man who loves complex words. The problem is that a lot of people can't understand him. This would be a great read-aloud for introducing adjectives and descriptive writing, It's also a fun way to build children's vocabulary. You might even laugh out loud a few times like I did. #MrMouthfulLearnsHisLesson #NetGalley

Thank you NetGalley and Concierge Marketing for this free ARC in return for my honest review.
A lot of good and a lot of bad in this one.
Good: words have meanings and kids should learn that what we call hats others all Chapeau's.
Good: Wonderful illustrations
Good: Beginning was a good lesson on other peoples language culture and our need to understand those words and ideas.
Bad: Went from word to long-winded phrases, which I know a lot of Brits can use, but were so outlandish
Bad: Inability to say simple words to help people avoid issues - REALLY! Come on this stretches credulity
Good: He finally finds a simple word to assist in a rescue, and his willingness to help despite not being able to swim.
Bad: Illustrations and descriptions of characters at the END of the Book. I like the idea but it belongs in the beginning. Who cares by the end?
Illustrations were really super but the story was a bit over the top for its intent and audience.

A funny book all about words, language and how we use them to convey meaning, and ourselves to the world.
I really like the retro style illustrations and the characters. This could prompt some fun discussions in class about how we use some words when they aren’t entirely necessary....can we all just speak plainly?

Mr Mouthful learns a valuable lesson when he must use one word only to convey meaning.....can he do it?

A silly book with a super message.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC.

Mr. Mouthful likes to use big words when sometimes simple ones would suffice. He goes on walks with his monkey pal, and inadvertently snubs or endangers people by improper use of his words. When a little girl is in danger can he find the right word to save her?

I'm not sure if this is a dig at British people or an attempt to keep children from expanding their vocabulary. The note to young readers on the dedication page says, "Learn to love all words, big and small, and learn which ones to use when," but that's not really the message that I got from this book. It presents many big words to kids without defining them. That may be the point of the story, but will be lost on kids who don't understand them. Additionally, the cadence is odd. Some lines rhyme while others do not. I'm not sure whether this is intentional or not, but makes the story difficult to read. The illustrations are OK. They are very cartoon-y and somehow remind me of elementary textbook illustrations.

Altogether the story fails to captivate its audience and is forgettable.

This book is so funny. I can't wait to read it to the kids. It will be a great one to pair with Amelia Bedelia. I can see it becoming as popular as Amelia Bedelia, as well.

This was a cute little story that my boys would really enjoy. The story line was fun and the illustrations were bright and colorful. I especially loved the cast of characters page at the end the book.

It can be hard to teach children new words. But with Mr Mouthful, who loves sophisticated words, they will have an awfully good time! So why not grab this book and discover his strange perspective of the world?
The illustrations are really good too and go perfectly well with the style of the story.
Warning: Your children could be asking for a pet monkey after having read this one!

This is a fabulous book about Mr. mouthful. Mr. mouthful is a man that is very fancy but he’s very wordy when he speaks. This book shows that you don’t need to be extravagant in your speaking to get your point across. Sometimes you don’t need to say so much.
