This book happened to be right time and right place for me to be reading. As someone who has struggled with cultivating friendships and loving myself, this book was fantastic. The exercises especially help take the book from just talking theory/giving wisdom to helping you apply it in your every day life. It was also lovely to be able to learn more about Buddhism and the author, Kate Johnson, through the book. Highly recommend to those who think they could benefit from a conversation on relationships with others and yourself!

I am so glad that I read Radical Friendship by Kate Johnson. This book isn’t what I thought it would be, it was so much more. Using the framework of Buddhism, the author describes 7 radical friendships that will help change you & your experience in the world. The descriptions make sense & most of the information covered resonated with me. The parts that didn’t at least made me think about her premise from a different point of view, which I appreciated. This books asks the reader to focus on creating relationship to make themselves & their relationships more thoughtful, inclusive, & empathetic. The book allows you further apply this new way of looking at your place in the world & how you can make the world a better place for other people. I enjoyed using some of the meditation suggestions. Perfectly timed for its focus on social justice & social change, this book will positively change how you view your relationships with other people. Thank you to NetGalley for the advance copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
