Marla is blindsided when her husband leaves her and leaves her with no options and pretty much with nothing. At the same time, she receives a letter in the mail giving her an inheritance that includes her grandmother's house. An unexpected surprise when she shows up at her grandmother's house is a renter that Marla didn't know about. This is a beautiful love story.

Heart Chimes by author Denise Janette Bruneau is a contemporary Christian book. This is the first one that I have read by author Bruneau so I did not know what to expect. It is a nice story.

This is the story of Marla Devereaux, an ER doctor, and Micah Brady, an RN and part-time fireman. Each have some issues with love. They are attracted to one another. At times I found all of the medical jargon overwhelming, but it did lend authenticity to the story.

I recommend this for readers liking medical and contemporary books. It gets 4 out of 5 stars from me. A copy was provided by Zimbell House Publishing and Net Galley, but these are by honest opinions.

I received an ARC from Zimbell House Publishing, via NetGalley. This review is my personal opinion.

This is the second book I read by Denise Jannete Bruneau, last year I had the chance on reading Finding Home and I like it. So I had expectations of this book, I was looking forward been surprised. And sadly I wasn’t, although with some changes the elements of the story are too similar to her previous book. . From chapter one we see that Denise Janette took her time describing the background on Marla. And I know many can relate to those specific situations, so at that moment when she needs to start over, I thought that she was going to take a time to be alone, adjust to change, and grow on God. But we see here the total opposite and at the same time what happens between Marla and Micah too obvious. Although clean and sweet, It doesn't have that special spark. And in my opinion, something is missing from the story.

HEART CHIMES by DENISE JANETTE BRUNEAU is a charming romantic novel with a good Christian message of unconditional love and second chances.
Dr Marla Devereaux and E R nurse Micah Brady, leave Cincinnati within three years of each other because of traumatic experiences there, and end up in Guntersville at the house that was left to Marla by her beloved grandmother. Although they have never met before they feel a connection. The other thing that was her grandmother's is a grandfather clock, on which she carved a heart as a little girl. Micah has a tattoo of three hearts on his chest.
I really like the way the title of the book is worked into the story. I also like the camaraderie between the staff at St Joe's hospital and the friendship and acceptance shown by the residents of Guntersville.
It is altogether a most delightful read.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Zimbell House Publishers. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

The premise of this story is cute: an ER doctor hearing a dying woman's last words of love to her husband, only to cross paths again with the husband 3 years later after her own husband abruptly divorces her. However, with its short length, it was like a full novel's story trying to fit into a novella-length space. The details were shallow, and there were holes in the plot. The supporting characters had a lot of potential, but they weren't deeply developed. They were the kind of characters and the type of town that could have held a whole series of books, yet I came away feeling like I didn't really know any of them. Marla's past and her relationship with her husband were brutal to her psyche, and there was potential depth to the story to restore her confidence and self worth as a daughter of God.

I give this book 3 stars; I feel like it had a lot going for it, but it needed to be longer to really reach its story potential.

I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for my honest review.

I started this book with few expectations with what would be inside. I knew it was a romance, but I was not expecting it to be boring and lengthy. The first ten pages alone almost held no action or investable information. All the medical jargon sounded fake or forced and Marla's long paragraphs of internal contemplation really broke up what should have been gripping actions. The general wordiness of this entire novel is difficult to get around, not to mention that there's at least ten pages of backstory about her mom, her dad, and her grandmother before we ever even meet Marla's husband. The first meeting between Marla and Micah felt very staged and that made it hard to really get into their relationship. Any development from there also just felt staged and relationships with other characters just seemed to revolved around Marla and Micah instead of fleshing out the setting. I got about 70% of the way through the book but did not finish.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing this ARC.

I very much enjoyed this sweet story! While the story was not surprising, it was engaging and sweet. Characters you enjoy getting to know, and rooting for! I would definitely read more from this author!

I absolutely adored this book! It was light and sweet and the author does a great job with drawing in the reader.
The story seems maybe a little too coincidental but then again, it shows how our God works! If you need a book that will brighten your spirit and give you hope, this is it!

Denise Janette Bruneau's Heart Chimes is a romance book with lots of medical jargons. The author seems to have put a lot of research into the medical field as most of the terms in the earlier chapters show this.

It's also clean romance that is Christian based. There were absolutely no sex scenes recorded. So if you're looking for a clean romance book, this is a good call. The Christian angle also seems a good touch for anyone looking for this.

I understood the plot and could readily imagine it. But I think it could do with a little more drama, perhaps suspense even. The dialogues were a little inanimated and I think the author could work on this a little more.

I look forward to reading more from Denise.

Heart Chimes is a delightful Christian romance. I savored and devoured it in one sitting.

Dr. Marla Devereaux has her life upended when she discovered her husband's secret. She was a likeable and real character.

She meets Micah unexpectedly and there is instant attraction.
He is carrying around a secret hurt from his past. Micah is also a strong and relatable character.

I was instantly drawn into the story and it kept me reading until that warm feel-good ending.

I want to thank the author, publisher, and netgalley for the complimentary ebook in exchange for my honest review.

This was a short, fast read. I enjoyed how the characters would just talk to God and pray in any situation. I did wish there was a little more depth, but overall a decent book.

Heart Chimes was a quick, 1 1/2 hour read. Denise Janette Bruneau's characters Marly and Micah, deal with loss, grief, and deep heartache, and their common issues bring them quickly to shared understanding and love. I appreciated the hospital setting of the medical dramas in this story. However, I found the love story rather abrupt and unrealistic. Anyone who enjoys a short novel read in one sitting may appreciate this. My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC for this my honest review.

This book is delightful. Such a reminder of how God uses all things for his glory and our good. He orchestrates the finite details and makes the miracles happen. A great reminder.

When I started this book I didn’t put it down until I was finished. I loved this light hearted romance and felt that both main characters were relatable. It was a little fast paced but still very enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this book.

Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read it.

Heart Chimes was a heartfelt story of Marla Devereaux, an ER doctor and Micah Brady, an RN and part-time fireman, who were unwittingly connected through a situation that they only became aware of three years later. They have both had their hearts broken in different ways, so that when they meet they are surprised at their attraction to each other. Marla has just received divorce papers from her husband and Micah lost his wife Allie to cardiac arrest three years earlier. They fall in love very fast and I am not really a fan of “falling in love” fast because sometimes it doesn’t seem to play out realistically. However, Denise Janette Bruneau was able to redeem it and I was able to see how Micah might be scared off, and how Marla’s appendicitis could help Micah to see that he was being given a second chance and that he needed to grab onto Marla and not let her go.
My gratitude to Zimbell House Publishing and Net Galley. All opinions expressed are my own.

Marla is an ER doctor whose husband has betrayed her and dumped her after only four years of marriage. He will stop at nothing to be able to hurt her, even selling her heirloom grandfather clock.

Micah is an ER nurse and firefighter who is also widowed. He is also her grandmother's tenant at her lake cabin.

A month ago, Marla's grandmother passed away and left her cabin to Marla. When Marla's husband tells her he wants her out of their home by the end of the week, she loads up her jeep and drives straight to the cabin, waking Micah up in the middle of the night.

Micah and Marla hit it off quite well. Both of their hearts need to heal and they find something toward that healing in each other.

Denise Janette Bruneau has written a sweet book that is a bit formulaic*, but still a good read. Four Stars.

Zimbell House Publishing and NetGalley.com provided the copy I read for this review. The opinions expressed here are my own.

*The Romance Formula is discussed in this review.

Plays on your heart strings:
This was a tender and sweet love story where two equally hurting individuals find healing and hope with one another. Dr. Marla has been trodden upon and worn down by the past men in her life and it was so lovely to see how Micah came to treasure her. Meanwhile Micah is still dealing with the grief and guilt surrounding his wife's death and thus their journey was a slow and rather bumpy one.
Whilst a simple, enjoyable read; it failed to captivate or inspire me. It was a bit stilted at times, especially compounded by the continual use of first names instead of more use of pronouns. Some things were also a bit unrealistic such as getting a job as an ER physician without even submitting a resume or having an interview first.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions expressed are solely my own.
