A fun, short little book of Steven Rhodes' nostalgic artwork with a twist. All those kids books like "A Beginner's Guide to [fill in the blank]" morphed into 'My First Alien Autopsy' or 'Let's Conjure Bloody Mary.' The artwork is the best part and I definitely understand why Steven Rhodes has a product line available in franchise's like Hot Topic and Spencer's. Basically a short more compact coffee table book, though I mostly recommend for horror fans (must have a sense of humor though).

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for this review copy, all opinions are my own.

"My Little Occult Book Club" is a unique and humorous book written by Steven Rhodes that presents a collection of his parodias of children's book covers. The book is designed as a vintage book subscription catalogue, but with a dark and fun touch.
The book's illustrations are incredibly detailed and evoke the nostalgia of the 70s and 80s. Parody titles like "Necromancy for Beginners" and "Let's Summon Demons" are really funny and entertaining.
The book also includes various puzzles and activities that follow the dark and fun theme of the book. There are fake offers of free gift shipping that make the book even more fun.
"My Little Occult Book Club" is a jewel of literature for those seeking a unique and entertaining reading experience. The book is an ode to childhood nostalgia and dark humor.
I recommend "My Little Occult Book Club" to anyone looking for a fun and light reading, which is also perfect for book collectors. The book is a real jewel that will make you laugh and enjoy nostalgia.

I received this from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I am familiar with My Little Occult Book Club because I've seen the posters and memes popping up in the years since the idea was introduced. But I love how this is a collection of all that andI love seeing the originals. It reminds me of my childhood.

This book is so funny! And I love the illustration so much. From the start, I've known Steve Rhodes as a unique graphic designer that I look up to!

This parody of old Scholastic book club catalogs was great fun to look through, and I seriously want to order the "Don't Talk to Strangers" book (about how to not get abducted by the "wrong" aliens) just to get the sweet glow-in-the-dark alien poster that comes with it! A fun book to have around, to flip through and chuckle.

This is a brilliant nostalgic coffee book with an edge.

With a collection of advertisements for other books and activities, all illustrated as a homage of those found in the comics of the seventies and eighties. For example, within the first couple of pages, there is a full-page advertisement for the book, 'Let's Sacrifice Toby' by Robin Graves. Further on you will find how to purchase an Alien Attracting Helmet as well as a find a word puzzle containing '18 creepy words'.

This is a brilliant way to spend a few hours and I have found myself going back to it over the last couple of weeks. Expect to see some of these images on t-shirts and mugs in the near future.

I don't think I get it. Cause everyone else seems to love it.
The illustrations are okay, but since I wasn't familiar with the art, I didn't get the same nostalgic feeling like everyone else.

Funny little book that plays up the 80s horror genre perfectly. I had seen several of these prints before but this was nice to see them all in one place.

This book is hilarious and perfect for the Halloween season. It contains parody covers in the style of vintage children's books, with a macabre them. This would be a great gift for horror movie lovers or those with a kind of weird sense of humor. I thoroughly enjoyed looking through it!

This is just gut-busting uproarious. Anyone who has fond memories of Scholastic book club flyers and a quirky sense of humor will get a kick out of My Little Occult Book Club, which is set up to look just like one of those old school catalogs.  From the oh-so-familiar order form to the ever-popular gift with purchase - in this case, free voodoo dolls and Hail Santa! badges - My Little Occult Book Club is full of laughs. There are even activities, like a "Connect the Dots" showing "what abomination Julie has unleashed into the world" and a "Go to Hell!" maze where readers can navigate little Patrick to the gates of Perdition, and As Seen on TV mail-order forms NOT for X-Ray Specs or Sea Monkeys, but Alien-Attracting Helmets and Cursed Videocassettes. The retro '70s-80s art is straight up hilarious and nostalgic; titles the B.M.Hex Gang (cover image), Cult Music Sing-Along (in stereo!), and Let's Summon Demons are snort-cackle hilarious. The product descriptions must have been a joy to write, because they're just too much fun to read, like the list of "favorite nursery rhymes": "Mary Sacrificed a Little Lamb, Baa Baa Black Magic, and Polly Put the Cauldron On".

Teens will get a laugh out of these, and their parents (like me) will laugh out loud, then feel really, really old, then laugh out loud all over again. My Little Occult Book Club is just too much fun. Now, can we please get a My Little Occult Book Club Pin-Up Book, so I can hang some up these up at home? Pair this with Paperbacks From Hell for a heck of a display!

**Stars About thanks NetGalley for the eARC**
I am so happy Steven Rhodes' art has been brought together in the wickedly delightful collection.
Bringing together 80s-90s nostalgia, Little Golden Book aesthetic and a healthy amount of occult snark, this book will make a great option for anyone who's favourite holiday is Halloween.

The books listed in this book/catalog have retro 70’s and 80’s style covers expertly done. As I was reading the title along with a brief annotation, I found myself laughing out loud. There are things to send ay for such as aa cursed videocassette, free voodoo doll (when you buy e copies of a book), and an alien attracting helmet plus more. You also get a free poster! There are puzzles included and fun to do. Some os the titles are: “Easy Bake coven,” “Tag, You’re it,” and “Satan is waiting.” The book is a parody of a catalog to order books from. I loved it. It is funny! Enjoy! This is perfect for anyone who needs to laugh or not.

If you're looking for nostalgia, this is it! Be prepared for massive flashbacks to the Scholastic book fairs we had in elementary and junior high school. And I must say, I would totally have bought and read some of these books had they been available.

The artwork is fantastic, and pulled me right back into the mid 80s to the mid 90s. I think "Tag You're It" was my favorite, but it was close between that one and "Easy Bake Coven".

Overall, 5/5 for nostalgia and some awesome horror movie/RL Stine/Goosebumps references.

Perfect gift for lovers of parody, horror and pulp fiction

Book Week may be postponed this year, but never fear, the good old book club order form is still here. But this time with a difference.

Fashioned after school book club order forms that have been around for decades (did anyone else love Scholastic catalogues?!) My Little Occult Book Club offers a selection of retro covers that combine innocent-looking children and domestic scenes with aliens, vampires and witches. It is written and illustrated by Steven Rhodes, whose parody book cover T-shirts have cult-like appeal the world over.

Highlights include:

How To Exit Your Body - For Beginners: an introduction to Astral Projection by Dr Phil McCoffen

The B.M.Hex Gang: “After accidentally reading an incantation from an old book of witchcraft, Donna, April and Caroline have invoked the worst of all demons—Satan himself! The only way to banish the Dark Lord is to beat him in the BMX Championship race known as “The DeathCourse”. Will the gang have time to win the course, save the town and ruin the junior prom?”

And my personal favourite: Alien Abduction Club (I have a soft spot for the Baby-Sitters Club).

There are lots more fun activities in this book, including mazes, word searches and invitations to mail away for occult incantation videocassettes. Ah, takes me back to my childhood...

With its tongue firmly in cheek, this book would be a perfect gift for a horror-loving pulp fiction fan with a retro aesthetic.

Warnings: Satan, exorcisms, zombies, werewolves, autopsies

My Little Occult Book Club is a hilarious volume poking fun at both school books clubs and the 80's horror genre.

Such a fun read! 5 out of 5 stars. Highly recommended for the horror fan in your life!

This was a fun walk down memory lane...with a twist.
It felt like I was shopping for titles to buy at this year's Scholastic Book Fair in Hell.
The drawing's were great. The writing was funny AND punny. I'd love to keep this book out lying around for friends to pick up when they come over.
