Ok you have seen the illustrations and the shirts now get the book! Brisbane boy Steven Rhodes destroys your childhood memories with this 80’s Book Club parody. Now why wasn’t the B.M.Hex gang around when I was a kid? Too funny. Satan says, “You must own this book!”

As a fan of the author’s shirt designs, I had to request this book. It’s not so much a book to read, or even a graphic novel, but it’s a great little coffee table book. Fans of Rhodes’s art will appreciate this little art book. As long as you know what you're getting, I recommend this. It's literally just a collection of the author's designs. I’d love to have a physical copy when it comes out, just to display.

This book cracked me up! My Little Occult Book Club is a satirical book that reimagines old school children's book catalogs (complete with product advertisements!)- if the ideal audience was, for instance, the Addams family. Reading this made me a little nostalgic, but also gave me a good laugh! The titles "advertised" (for example: Pyrokinesis For Beginners) were hilarious, and the products (for example: Alien-Attracting Helmet "as seen on TV!") provided an extra level of fun. I can see this book being an excellent gift for those whose sense of humor runs a little on the dark side, and I will definitely be buying copies for my friends!

A showcase of Steven Rhodes' delightful satirical art, which I'm sure you've seen on a t-shirt somewhere. It's absolutely terrific all lined up here, under the guise of a Scholastic-style book club catalogue. Rhodes has an enormously enjoyable retro style, and he sure as hell commits to the bit: the text is just as fun as the art. I only wish:

1) That I could suddenly somehow spontaneously acquire one of Rhodes' sweatshirts to, I guess, cozily entertain myself with during quarantine.

2) That adults had a Scholastic Book Club equivalent in their lives.

and most of all, 3) That the books Rhodes has invented here were real. I mean, what wouldn't you give to read the cover title, B.M.Hex Gang? Perhaps even . . . your soul?

*cue maniacal laughter, etc.*

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. I didn't read the fine print on this one, so I may have signed something over to read this, who knows.

This graphic book is a fun read for the summer to. This something I hadn’t read before so loved it. I had few downloading issues for the file but others that the book seemed good.

This book includes various mock-up covers for 70-ies and horror inspired books, which are brought together in a kind of catalogue for a book club - My Little Occult Bookclub - to make orders and get various goodies with your purchases. Somehow I thought this would be more, but upon re-reading the blurp on netgalley I see that that's been an error on my side.

Some of these pictures I already knew from having been a while around, but most were new to me. Quite a few made me chuckle or wonder what said story would entail.

If you're a fan of his work, you'll love this compilation

I recieved an uncorrected proof copy of this in exchange for a honest review.

A collection of covers for creepy children's books which, more's the pity, don't exist (though the Usborne guides were a pretty good approximation) - the retro-styled likes of Caring For Your Hell Hound and My First Alien Autopsy. You'll probably have seen some online, or even as t-shirts: Let's Summon Demons is very much the hit. There are a few blurbs, even an activity or two (though the wordsearch is made trickier by not saying what words you're after, only that they're spooky, and who's to say Woqugac isn't the name of some dread entity?), but really this is less the sort of book one actually reads than the sort to leave around for visitors to flick through and hopefully grin. Which is a slight problem now 'visitors' have become every bit as strange and forbidden a concept as ghosts, monsters and devils.

This vintage looking book showcases art from Steven Rhodes. It is mostly images of “books” you can order such as Caring for Your Demon Cat, Let’s Conjure Bloody Mary, and My First Zombie Apocalypse.
It also has activities like a maze to get out of Hell and making shadow puppets of the devil. Great artwork and I love the nostalgic feel mixed with creepy images.

This school book club flyer satire is one of the funnier things I’ve read in a while. Choices include “Sell Your Soul: Economics for Children”, The BMHex Club, and everything occult.

The art takes me back to my childhood favorites and who doesn’t love a good book fair?

I can't download this to Kindle, and my laptop is not allowing me to open the file. Oh well, this looked amazing.

I LOVE Steven Rhodes so much. He is hands down one of my favorite designers, and I was thrilled to see some of his classic works along with new additions in My Little Occult Book Club. This laugh out loud collection really shows off the best of Rhode's work, along with the nostalgic vibes that we have come to know and love. I will absolutely be adding this one of my shelves when it releases in August!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion and review.

This book was an absolutely hilarious twist on vintage children’s book catalogues. Both the posters and book descriptions give an authentic vintage vibe and are utterly hilarious. The art style of the book is phenomenal and does a great job of replicating the art style of vintage book covers.

This book was funny to page through and would make a good gag-gift for adult readers who are interested in horror and/or the occult. I think it would have been better if there had been at least one full story Little Golden Books style in the book. It took me almost half of the book to realize that I was looking at a pamphlet style book with lots of titles along with the activities, rather than the front material for a storybook.

A hilarious twist on the old Scholastic Book Fair catalogs from our youth. Great art, funny copy, creative as hell (ha ha). I wish I could get some of these blown up poster-size to hang around the house.

The cover image is for "B.M.Hex Gang," described as follows: "After accidentally reading an incantation from an old book of witchcraft, Donna, April, and Caroline have invoked the worst of all demons - Satan himself! The only way to banish the Dark Lord is to beat him in the BMX Championship race known as The DeathCourse. But the Devil is a mean BMX freestylist, and the tournament is only one week away!..."

Review to come in August on blog/goodreads.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

So I was lured in by the title and the cover. What would this book actually be about? Well, I found out quickly it is kind of like a book catalogue just with occult and hilarious books about darkness and devils, for your children. I laughed, giggled, ohhh and aahhhed, and had so much fun reading this one. Also, can I order one or more of these books and hope they become real? Some of them sound awesome.

Not all of the books have book descriptions, sometimes this catalogue only shows a book cover. I liked this variety, though I wouldn't have minded book descriptions to the books we only see the cover of as I am quite curious about the books. Like what kind of songs are included in the Cult Music Sing-Along? And does the Easy-Bake Coven feature recipes?
I loved that we got non-fiction books and fiction. Demon pets and puberty oh my!
There are books on how to summon demons, how get two weeks more of vacation (would you sacrifice your brother for that?), what happens in puberty (apparently you don't just grow hair... you also become a werewolf), selling your soul, hugging a snake, and many many more.
OMG, I was delighted to see a certain girl pop out of a well again. Ohhh there she is Sadako! *also waves at Bloody Mary*

There are also advertisements included in the book, for instance you can get your own cursed videocassette. To which I say, no thank you. I know what happened in The Ring (Japanese version please). And there are also activities to be found in this book. Yep, this book is full with everything you may want... or may not want. :P

I love the illustrations, the style is just amazing and quite nostalgic and retro.

All in all, I just flew through this book. I need more. Please make more? Please? I would highly recommend this book to all.

Quite original and funny!
The book is a catalogue to order the most sinister titles to help children improve their "dark arts" skills. An absolutely essential guide for kids of all ages.

Thanks to Chronicle Books and NetGalley for providing me with an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

This novel is one of the best I’ve read this year! The characters are so dynamic yet relatable. I loved the flow of the story. It held my attention the whole time.
