Women’s domestic suspense/thrillers are a hot genre now, and
Too Good to be True is a powder keg of passion and puzzlement and a super example of why domestic thrillers are so addictive.
I zoomed through the first half of the book, as each character’s life and actions became more unglued. Or did they? Three points of view are presented: Skye Starling a rich Westport young woman, Burke, a handsome charmer from an impoverished and broken background and his wife of thirty years, Heather. We also get to read the diaries of Burke and Heather.
At first, these characters seemed to be doing well in their lives, but we soon learn that each has faced dark moments and difficult challenges. Heather and Burke present as caring parents in a successful middle-class life, as they hide the pain and despair of their wrecked childhoods. Skye has all the privilege of a “trust fund baby” but is crippled by severe OCD.
How do these three people come together? And why do they inflict such pain and terror on each other? Who is telling the truth, who is the puppeteer and who are the puppets- or does it matter? As they say, “when something seems to be too good to be true, it probably is.” But, perhaps it’s only your own truth that matters.
Readers, I advise you to give up a whole weekend, read the book without stopping and then call up your best friend and discuss it. Oh, and double-check your social media accounts, too.
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for an advance digital review copy. This is my honest review.

After reading the plot description, I was captivated... however, I found the plot to be ... too good to be true - sorry. Had to. Look, when you have a 30 year old female character, and then you flash back about 30 years earlier to another character that doesn't get a name but is actually referred to as "baby girl..." your audience will know what's going on really quickly. I figured this *couldn't* be a twist - it was WAY too obvious. But alas - there's a "big" reveal. An eight-year-old reader could have figured that one out. Based on the reviews, I figured there had to be another big twist or big reveal... but nope. It was a total snoozefest.
There was so much potential. Call the baby a nickname. Don't reveal so much from one of the antagonists. Etc. The characters simply aren't interesting enough to make up for a sub-par plot.
This didn't do it for me.

If it appears too good to be true, it probably is. Carola Lovering entices you to see if that really is the case in her rendering, Too Good to be True. It was an exciting ride as the details fall into place hinting at who is duping who but in the end, wow, what a surprise. You must read this one to follow all the twists and turns and discover who is really too good to be true -- Heather, Skye, or Burke?

The first half of this book grabbed me and made it seem like the book would be a 5 star read. But toward the end it seemed long and drawn out and I found myself skimming just to finish. I think it could have been cut shorter and that would have made it 5 stars all the way through.

This book surprised me; the story wasn't that out there, but I really enjoyed the way it was told.
The handsome, but frustrated man, the rich but challenged beautiful woman, the simmering rage of a grieving woman. Each person has a section both in current time and in the past so we have some perspective on how things got to where they are and then what comes next.
It is hard to fathom the cruelty of others and the work they are willing to do to achieve the goal of hurting and punishing. This story is an example of this.
The action moves along quickly and I looked forward to reading it each night. As much to see what happens as much as to see if there were any clues that I needed to notice.
I am ambivalent about the ending, I don't like it when bad behavior is rewarded, but I guess that is how it is in real life.
Enjoyed, and recommend. 4.5 stars

Too Good to Be True by Carola Lovering reinforces the belief that if something is too good to be true - it isn't. Wow - I was blown away by the characters, their lives and situations. Told from multiple POVs, you won't want to put this one down.
Skye is a beautiful, wealthy woman who has a good job, lovely apartment and OCD. Sometimes her OCD is crippling and it has affected her relationships. She finally meets the man of her dreams - older, successful and good looking Burke Michaels.
But is Burke really as perfect as he seems? How does their love story tie in to a teenager's life tragedy from almost 30 years before? Skye needs to find out who Burke really is and who is pulling the strings of her life.
Don't want to give any spoilers away. This book is as twisty as a maze - one you won't want to stop working through.

This book was a fantastic read. It is told from three POV’s, Skye, Burke and Heather. The first half of the the book was a true page turner. By Part Two, you have a pretty good idea who the true manipulator is hence the four stars. It was a well written domestic thriller with twists and turns. By the second half of the book you truly get the true picture. This is the first book I have read by this author and I will be on the look out for further books from her. I would like to thank net galley for this ARC I received for an honest review. I am keeping my review short because I do not want to give away spoilers. It definitely had some major twists in the second half that I didn’t see coming so if you like psychological thrillers, this is a must read.

Too Good to be True by Carola Lovering is a 5 star read. Normally I can see a plot twist coming, but with this book, I was gobsmacked. The plot, and its twist, were believable, as were its characters. The villians were relatable and its heroes, flawed. In other words, everyone was very ... human. Too Good to be True was my first Carola Lovering novel, but not my last! Thanks to NetGalley for providing an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was such a great read. I like the different POV for each character because you get to see how each character felt during this whole story. I also have to say that my heart ache for Sky Starling. She was going through a lot when her mom passed away at a young age. Due to that loss she became OCD and that entered through her whole life and something she had to manage.
We get to see her thrive when she meets and falls in love with Michael Burke. She never expectd this courtship to turn into marriage so quickly. Her happiness is short lived though when she discovers her husband is not totally who he says he is.
I liked how everything unfolded though.
Thank you netgalley, author, and publisher for this egalley in exchange for my review

This book caught my attention from the very beginning and held it throughout. I found myself really likimg and rooting for Skye. There are some twists and turns throughout to keep it suspenseful.

This book was "too good to be true"... except for the language and quite a few things that editing must have missed. Because of some most delicious twists and surprises, I want to recommend it but can't to those I know well, because they'd be offended by the too frequent use of the "F word". As I progressed in the story, I wish I'd started counting them, but there were as many as six per page. I couldn't see any way in which they added to the story, as these were educated people using them. Why would someone who knows more appropriate verbage even use them at all??
This is not a tale you want to hear too much about before starting. Let the enjoyment just seep in as you learn more about the three main characters whose stories are interwoven throughout.

First let me say that I was a huge fan of Carola Lovering's debut novel Tell e Lies. I was thrilled to receive an ARC of her second novel Too Good to be True from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. Thank you to Carola Lovering, St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the opportunity.
Too Good to be True is a twisty psychological thriller about revenge, deception and betrayal. The book had me hooked from the beginning and I could not put it down. I loved how the author chose to weave the multiple POV'S in such a way that makes the reader question what is true and what is not. Character development at it's best. It was so well done and thoroughly enjoyable. This book was beyond creepy and too good to be true! Highly recommend!

I really enjoyed this thriller! Normally I can figure out the whodunit and the why within a few chapters, as most thriller authors tend to follow a script. However, I was pleasantly surprised by this one a few times, and really liked how it all played out in the end.

Skye is twelve years old and absolutely loves and adores her mother. The problem is that Skye doesn’t realize that her mother has some deep seated issues of her own. Skye’s mother, Libby Fontaine, always encouraged Skye, when she was anxious or having issues, to count to 8 and count from 8 down to 1. Little did Libby realize, she was causing her daughter, Skye to become obsessive compulsive. Libby became very ill with cancer and passed away when Skye was only 12. As soon as her mother passed, the OCD ruled her life, even in high school. The OCD caused Skye to be very conscious of how strange her actions of knocking on doors to the count of 8 up and 8 down before she could walk through doors. She was teased constantly at school. because of her OCD. The OCD also made her feel very insecure; therefore, she didn’t really date. She had only four very best friends, who she felt very comfortable with and who knew all about her OCD. As a young woman, Skye eventually met Burke Michaels. Burke is tall, handsome, and such a gentleman. Skye feels that they have a real connection. They talk for hours. Burke doesn’t even make a big deal about her little OCD issues. He even tells Skye that he has had an issue of his own and that he has had a battle with alcoholism and drug addiction. He has been totally sober for over 20 years. He feels that they both can relate to each other, because of their issues. Why isn’t he married at 46 years old? Skye and Burke begin to spend as much time as possible with each other. Eventually Burke proposes to Skye and she accepts. However, Skye’s best friend, Andie, is totally against it, because the two have only known each other for a short time. She stressed to Skye that neither of them really know each other. Skye and Burke move into together. However, Burke keeps taking off for work and no one really knows where he goes. What is he hiding? Should Skye be worried? The wedding is planned and since Skye has a huge inheritance, the wedding planning goes off without any issues. They spend a glorious honeymoon in Europe for ten days. When they return from the honeymoon, Andie, calls her and tells her she needs to come to her apartment immediately. Skye arrives to Andie’s apartment, and isn’t prepared for what Andie has to show her. What could it possibly be? What could go so wrong? What has Burke done? Will this affect her marriage to her new husband? This book is a great psychological thriller, so I won’t go into depth with the plot. However, the plot was genius, and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. There are so many twists and turns. The character development was great. The reader could relate to the antagonist and the protagonist. I enjoyed this book very much.

What a twist! This story kept me guessing and in suspense. I was clueless as to what was coming next. Told from 3 POV’s the story has you wondering how well do you know someone?
Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I really enjoyed this book. Moved at a fast enough pace to keep my interest. I liked the story line and character development. Thank you to Netgalley for opportunity to read this pre-release.

Too Good to Be True is a tale of love, loss and betrayal, with a twisty ending. Skye Starling has been plagued by OCD since she was 12 years old, and this OCD interferes with her adult life, especially in the world of romantic relationships. It seems that no one can see beyond her psychological issues to the wonderful human that struggles with those issues. Skye, having inherited a lot of money from her family, does not want for much, outside of love. Then she meets Burke Michael's, an older, attractive man, while at Montauk with her friend, and life changes for the better. Burke doesn't seem to care about the quirks of her OCD, but he does seem to car ea lot about her, something she has dreamed about but had stopped thinking she was going to find.
Meanwhile, many years in the past, another tale is told about Heather, a young woman who went through trauma as well, at the age of 16. This loss and the pain and anger surrounding it, changes Heather forever, along with what she wants and how she is willing to get what she wants.
Both women are looking for their view of happily ever after. Will they find it? Or are they on a collision course towards more heartache and tragedy?
Too Good to Be True was a gripping, well told tale. I was very much able to suspend my disbelief for the two days it took me to plow through it. The characters are well defined and easy to love, or hate, depending.... and even those you may hate, you also cannot help but feel for them, too. A good vacation read!

Twists and turns and surprising reveals in this thriller narrated from 3 different point of views. Sky is thrilled when her handsome boyfriend Burke wants to marry her in a whirlwind romance. Sky's friends think she is rushing into things and Burke is "Too good to be true". But what could Burke be hiding and why is he in such a rush to get married? Who is the narrator Heather and what does she have to do with Sky and Burke's upcoming wedding?
You will quickly read this book to find out the answers to these questions and will come upon an interesting turn of events towards the ending.

The story had lots of potential. The story line is interesting with a few good twists. However the characters were awful. Skye should wear a sign saying abuse me, use me. Heather and Burke are total users. There was just nothing I liked about the characters. Too bad cause the book could have been a winner with better likable folks in it.

I just finished reading "Too Good to Be True" by Carola Lovering. Right from the start I could barely put it down! The chapters of the book are from the perspective of three different characters, though the main character is a woman named Skye. The twists keep coming in this book and I would recommend it to everyone! It kept me enthralled the entire novel.
