I found myself sad reading through The Elizabeth Walker Affair. Lots of unfortunate events that lead to a lot of ultimate sadness in the end. I guess I just like the happy ending to a love affair. I think this could have ended a lot different but I can appreciate what the author was trying to do.
Special Thanks to NetGalley, Robert Lane, and Mason Alley Publishing for the advance digital copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

I received an ARC of this novel from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

An old army buddy contacts a friend about finding a lost love. When the buddy ends up dead, his friend searches for the woman and clues about the murder. Friendship, forgiveness, and second chances found in unlikely places.

Initially I found myself enjoying The Elizabeth Walker Affair. I liked Travis and was looking forward to going on an adventure with him.. Sorry to say, that route led to many boring moments. I began to question why I cared about reading this novel. For me, though, finishing a book is standard. Sometimes I don't, but I do try. The two things about this novel that I think need fixing are its length, and the depiction of the main characters. There is a lot of empty dialogue to be cut. Then the characters. Elizabeth, for starters, is just not very interesting. It was a conversation with her at the 2/3 point where I began skimming. Morgan only seems around to fill gaps, and Kathleen- does Travis really love her? I never felt that. The mystery itself surrounding Andrew might have carried better had the author made his actions a main theme of the novel. In a way he did, but he forgot to tell the reader until late in the story.. Anyway, it's a decent read, but why?
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC.

I was really excited to read this one, but it just didn't do it for me. None of the characters showed any emotion, took a long time to get into the story, & extra content that wasn't nessacary (just my opinion).
Thank you Netgalley for letting me read this one.

I almost gave up on this one a few times as I found it difficult to follow and the characters evoked no feelings whatsoever but I persevered and the last third of the book was somewhat better. A mystery from the beginning involving a random visit from a long ago friend and then found dead. The narrator is asked to investigate and all signs point in one direction, the husband of an ex-girlfriend. The characters just didn’t work for me. Many twists and turns which kept me reading. Some of my puzzles and questions were tied up at the end, but still not a memorable book for me.

Review I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving this review. I enjoyed this book from the beginning to end. It is very well written and entertaining. The characters are very likable and well developed. If you like a good mystery/suspense/romance, you should read this one.

Thank You to NetGalley and Mason Alley Publishing for this ARC!!

Andrew pleads with his old friend, Jake Travis, to locate his ex-flame Elizabeth. But when Andrew is suddenly murdered, Jake is asked to investigate.

Jake arranges a rendezvous with Elizabeth and senses that she is harboring secrets of her own. He learns of a tragic accident two decades ago that decimated her family. Like Elizabeth, Jake battles his own demons, for his past is a roadblock to his and Kathleen's happiness.

It was an interesting read about a long lost love and the secrets that were buried for about twenty years.

Initially it was very slow and it took me some time to actually understand it, but as the story progressed, it got more engaging and the ending was something unexpected!!

Overall a good read!

This was a great read! It had a great long lost love story line, with a compelling mystery. I usually don’t get sad reading books but this made me really connect with the characters. I wish things had turned out differently for Andrew and Elizabeth. Overall a great read, took me a bit to get into it but once I did I loved it.

Lane is no doubt an excellent writer and the book sets up the mystery quite well early on in the book. With a strong primary suspect and an allusion to a bigger conspiracy, the readers are hooked.

However, the writing style and pace of the book doesn’t seem to suit a thriller. We don’t see any urgent need for the investigator to solve the crime – other than an obligation to an old friend. As introspection of different characters keeps on for pages, the pace suffers and interest wanes along with the retreating low tide.

Readers who like flowery, metaphorical writing style of an intense Drama may like this, but if you are one of those who pick up a mystery-thriller to get goosebumps and a racing pulse, this one is not for you.

An emotionally charged mystery thriller with a fulfilling ending.

Jake Travis’ friend Andrew has been murdered, and the only person who could help him solve the mystery is an old lover, Elizabeth Walker.

Elizabeth has a secret of her own, will she confide in Jake? Will Jake conquer his own demons?

This was a very emotionally charged novel. The story is told in both first and third person, and I thought it was a very refreshing and clever idea for the author to reflect on the characters’ past as a way to ponder how actions can have an impact on our present, no matter how much we try to run away from them.

The ending was the best part of this novel…, just wow. I don’t think I could have ever expected that, my jaw dropped to the floor.

All in all, the Elizabeth Walker affair is a gripping story that will captivate you. I hope to hear more about Jake Travis, and look forward to a new installment of this series!

Disclosure: I would like to thank Mason Alley Publishing for an advanced copy of The Elizabeth Walker Affair by Robert Lane. This is my honest review.

Great story, my biggest complaint is that the author jumps from first person to 3rd person it makes for a confusing situation. Over all a goo thriller.

Even if the style of writing is a bit weird at times it was an engrossing and entertaining read.
I liked the mystery, the plot and the characters.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

The plot is very good and the characters are fantastic, but it's not good when an author writes from the main character POV and still has to jump to third person in order to tell a story. The language is amusing, can be a little tiring, but it's different and I like it. The ending is the best part of the book, and that's always great.

This was a great read! A sad story of Elizabeth and Andrew and how the decisions that were made 20 years ago from their affair led to the tragedies in current day. There was a bit of romance and a bit of mystery which I love!

I just reviewed The Elizabeth Walker Affair by Robert Lane. #NetGalley
