House of Correction is a novel by the famous duo Nicci French. Tabitha is awaiting trial, charged with murder of her neighbor in her small town. She has no recollection of the event and in order to find out the truth, she decides she must represent herself at her trial. This novel had its moments and definitely some plot twists towards the end. I did find there were some points that were brought up repeatedly that had no bearing on the actual story.

Another excellent read from the Nicci French team. Many implications for today’s political landscape...who thought you’d write that about about a murder mystery. What does it mean to be an outsider? You really can’t go home again, can you? And why would you with a town like this one. People who want to be important when they aren’t? People who lie to your face? People who twist things because you are different. It also shows that sometimes common sense is more important than book sense. Finally, it’s true nothing is as simple as it seems!

Another great read from the duo Nicci French! I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the books by this author team and this is no exception. House of Correction is an expertly crafted tale of a woman convicted of a murder she does not remember committing. Believing that she is innocent, Tabitha leads us on the journey of proving her innocence. She is a strong, yet misunderstood woman that I grew to respect and appreciate as the story unfolded. I especially enjoyed the courtroom drama. This is a slow, burn mystery that I highly recommend. Thank you NetGalley and HarperCollins for my ARC.

This was a fast read/ well written story. Although I did not like the main character- I enjoyed reading about a trial and evidence.

First time reading an , and what a story to start with! WOW! Excellent writing, fast paced, full of twists and turns. Follow Tabitha on her quest to find out the truth of whether she is guilty or not of the murder she is imprisoned for. I felt like I was inside the prison where she is struggling to decipher the events of the day. Truths and lies are uncovered and the reader is taken on a fantastic journey full of suspense. I did not see the end coming, but if courtroom, crime, suspense driven novels are your preferred reads, get this book, you will not be dissapointed.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I very much enjoyed this book. I had not previously read anything from this author.

The story line was good, the characters well developed, an ending I didn't anticipate.

What could be worse than being accused of a murder you didn’t commit? How about not being sure you didn’t commit a murder? Tabitha has moved back to Okeham, where she’s restoring an old house. She keeps to herself, working hard on renovations, but then her handyman finds a body in her shed. Police are called and Tabitha, to her shock, is arrested. She believes it’s all a mistake at first, but she soon begins to wonder if the police will fix their mistake. They did make a mistake, didn’t they? As time passes and she’s not released, Tabitha realizes the only one who can prove she’s innocent is herself. Because of course she is. Isn’t she? The husband and wife team who make up Nicci French get better with every book
