This is the 12th book I've ready by Catherine Ryan Hyde, obviously one of my favorite authors. She is a superb storyteller, a master at creating characters that are so easy to relate to.
This book is primarily about the relationship between Anton and Edith. The story begins with Anton as an 18-year-old. Anton lost his right hand in a tragic incident. He has a difficult relationship with his parents. He meets Edith when he accidentally discovered that she was being abused by her husband. Edith was 33,e virtues fifteen years older than Anton. Anton helps Edith escape from her husband to parts unknown, but not before he falls in love with her despite the age gap.
Later in life, they come together. And they face new challenges together.
The author's books always contain life lessons. The virtues of unselfishness are featured in this one.
I couldn't put this one down. But I say that all the time about books by Catherine Ryan Hyde.

This story spans 55 years. During this time Anton experiences trauma, love, loss. He grows into an unselfish man that proves who he is by his actions. At 18 he lost the love of his life when she had to leave town to get a way from her abusive husband. 15 years later they bump into each other on a train. They spend the rest of their life building their family. Together they experience live and loss.

What an incredible book. Catherine Ryan Hyde is one of my favorite authors. I've loved everything I've read of hers and this book was no different. Her books grab you from page one and then I can't put them down! The characters in this book are heartwarming and so is their story. From page 1 you know there is something special about Anton. I loved the ways Anton and Edith healed each other from their pasts and how they taught their children those same lessons. Thank you Catherine Ryan Hyde for this incredible love story!

Wow wow wow. Her finest book yet. What a sensitive and moving story. I absolutely loved it! Loss, abandonment, love, promises, domestic violence, fostering, suicide, life changing injury ..... what else has this book got that I missed off the list? Cancel the next few days, put the kettle on, grab the tissues, and settle down to read. 5* all the way!

A sweet love story about two broken people who meet during dire times for each of them. Anton is eighteen and Edith is thirty three. It's a friendship of only a few days, but Anton is head over heels in love and devastated when Edith must leave for parts unknown. They lose contact until fifteen years later when fate intervenes.

I had some problems with the characterizations. Anton is pretty much a perfect human being. I'm not sure such a person exists in the real world. Edith, on the other hand, was kind of a bland personality with not much of a back story.

It was a nice read, but not one of this author's better books. Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review.

I truly adore all of Catherine Ryan Hyde's books and this is no exception!
There is always something to contemplate through the pages and it almost always generates reflection and some tears while moving through the words.
Grandma Marion tells her eighteen year old Grandson, Anton: "Love is when you can make the following statement, and mean it: "What's best for her, even if it doesn't include me."
Anton has a heart of gold. During his short life, he has met with tragedy and heartbreak and tries to deal with it. all
He trusts few and is not comfortable or happy in his life.
However, it is not until he saves a woman, Edith from a life of abuse and fear, that he will slowly learn to trust and implement this quote by his Grandma that he has never forgotten.
This story spanning fifty-five years, is love, heartache, family, care, heartbreak and healing.
It is excellent and definitely what the world needs now!

This was my first book by this author. I enjoyed every minute of this book. I love that it covered a lifetime and everything that comes with it. Heartache, loss, love, happiness, sadness, and selflessness. The relationships Anton developed throughout the book are meaningful and beautiful. Families are difficult and toxic at times. His was particularly so and he made that difficult decision to move on from them and foster a better family life for his own children. Sometimes books can make you stop and evaluate your own life and decisions, this is one of those books. I felt how deeply Anton and Edith loved each other and it made me value the love and strength of my own marriage. The issues in this book are deep and relevant from mental health to the foster/adoption system.

This is an amazing book! It is one of the very best books she has ever
written! It's a beautiful story, written very well.
All of her books are different. Each one tells a story that we can learn from, written
in a way that keeps us wanting to stay with it until the end. Anton, and everyone he
cared about, captured my heart! Catherine Ryan Hyde has a gift, there is no other
way to explain the beautiful stories she writes so well.

There are some books I read with no knowledge of the plot. These are usually written by authors that I know will create a story that I love and treasure. Catherine Ryan Hyde is one of these authors for me. I knew nothing about the plot and honestly I think that was a wonderful thing for me. Knowing nothing, let me experience the story with no preconceive ideas.

My Name is Anton is an emotional book filled with so many themes, but the most powerful one is that unselfish love is rare and more precious than anything else. There is so much I could write about the actual story, but I will not for the reason I mentioned already. What I will write is that I recommend this book so highly and please give yourself a wonderful gift of reading this story about a special person. I wish we all had an Anton in our life. I know his story will never leave me. It is a book that definitely goes on my favorites list.

This is a beautiful story of love and fate. Anton meets Edith by accident when he is 18 and she is 33. Edith is running from a bad marriage. Anton is hiding from living his life. Their story twists and turns over a lifetime. They are sad and happy and sad and always in love. This story stuck with me because it is so realistic. The story of Anton and Edith could be anyone at any time.

This story made me smile and sigh. I loved it!

I am always amazed at the prolific work of Catherine Ryan Hyde. She publishes two books a year. I try to space them out, but invariably read each book as soon as it is available to me. My Name is Anton is no exception. I have read 17 books by CRH and this one may be my favorite.
The book covers a lifetime. It deals with various issues such as mental illness, spousal abuse, physical disability, the child protective system and inter generational relationships. However, the book is primarily about the meaning of love. Anton expresses love Through his willingness to give up his greatest hope and desire for the well being of another. This theme continues through the end of the novel. It is a true love story that will make you laugh and cry in the same breath. I just wish it hadn’t ended so quickly.

I love this Author. Her books are amazing. You feel like you are right there in the story with the characters. Anton had a terrible life the year he was 18. His brother died and he lost a hand. The good thing is he met Edith and saved her from an abusive husband. Fast forward 15 years. READ THE BOOK. I highly recommend it and everything this Author has written. Thanks to NetGalley, Lake Union Publishing and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book. Deserves way more than 5 stars.

In today’s world where so many young people are considering themselves victimized or handicapped or overwhelmed by grief (or other emotions) it is so refreshing to read a story about a youngster, Anton, who was truly all of the above and yet didn’t consider himself any of those things. He didn’t really set out to “do” or to “be” anything in particular. He lived the life he was given while taking every opportunity to be of assistance to others whom he considered less fortunate.

I love the fact that C. R. Hyde’s protagonists always triumph, but do so in a very humble way. Her heroes are not “center stage” people and will never be featured in a news report. They are plain, ordinary people who happen upon a need and respond to that challenge.

Unlike most of her books, this one starts in 1965 and continues up to today, encompassing 55 years of Anton’s life. Having lived during that time period myself, I can attest to her depiction of those early years in this story.

I recommend this book, along with all of her books. These are especially meaningful for the YA reader, but well written and sophisticated enough for adult enjoyment.

Anton is still trying to deal with the aftermath of his brother’s death and the loss of his own right hand when his parents leave him for three weeks at Christmas time. By unintentionally looking in the window of the apartment across the street, he sees Edith being abused by her husband. He finds her by pretending to be a survey taker, and offers her a place to stay. He is 18 and she is 33, but they form a special relationship in their time together. She eventually leaves on a train, and will not tell Anton where she is going in case her husband confronts him. Anton is heartbroken, but tries to get on with his life. At first I was a little concerned about this book being boring, but because it was written by Ms Hyde, and her books are usually quite good, I decided to continue. I’m so glad I did. All the characters in the book are well described and you can’t help but hope for the best for Anton and Edith. I would recommend this heartwarming book to all Catherine Ryan Hyde fans, and to anyone looking for a different type of book. I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing. My Name is Anton is another homerun by Catherine Ryan Hyde. It was difficult to put down as I was constantly thinking, "What's next?!" A story of family, despair, friendship, and love in various forms that seamlessly and tirelessly spans decades, My Name is Anton is an emotional yet satisfying journey from beginning to end. Highly recommend!!

This is not typically my genre of book. I read more mystery and thrillers. However, I am so glad I read this book. I absolutely loved it!

The writing is superb and the character development is top notch. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone!

Spanning several decades and both sad and hopeful, “My Name is Anton”, by Catherine Ryan Hyde (Lake Union Publishing), is a lovely story about second chances, fate and longing.
Strangers connecting in unlikely circumstances, wounded hero Anton and Edith develop a really sweet romance. I loved the kindness, the gentleness between them. Parts of the story are poignant and sad, others are full of hope, and others are matter of fact, as the characters themselves.
I enjoyed more the parts where the characters are older and liked watching how Anton became so able, overcoming his initial clumsiness. The disability experience is incorporated into the story with minimal angst; but it’s there, and is crucial to the romance plot. It’s a rarity in fiction to watch a wounded hero grow old and I liked it.
Anton and Edith are wonderful characters. Anton is a quiet man, but so determined and sure of his feelings. The secondary characters are great, too.
Sometimes the narration felt flat and the dialogue a bit farfetched.

I liked this book but I didn't love it. The story was good and not like anything I have read before but I did feel like the ending was a little rushed. The first half of the book spans a few days and the last part is many years crunched together. That being said, the story is well written and the characters are well developed. I did find myself rooting for the characters to make it! I would definitely read more books from this author!

Catherine Ryan Hyde never disappoints and her latest, My Name is Anton, might be my new favorite. Loved this book. Loved the characters, loved the interactions and loved how we learn the stories of the two main characters as the book unfolds. Could not put this one down and I highly recommend.

My Name is Anton by Catherine Ryan Hyde is an excellent novel that drew me in from the first page to the literal last.

Ms. Hyde has a true talent of creating real, raw, complex, and rich characters that have real-life challenges and relationships with one another, and with life. Without giving the plot away to other readers, I truly enjoyed reading the story of Anton and Edith. The prose was smooth and effortless, the plot intricate, and an ending that was satisfying.
