I really enjoyed this book. It was cute and I loved that this was my first holiday read of the year. I wasn’t surprised that I really enjoyed this one as I adored Christina Lauren. I enjoyed all the side characters so much and loved that they were all a big part of the story!

Swoon-worthy holiday cheer, Christina Lauren is here! I loved this book! I was charmed by all of the characters in this book, and that doesn't happen often. I loved the premise--a Christmastime Groundhog Day. And the end was the icing on the figgy pudding. Right now, its not even Halloween and I will probably read this again right before Christmas. I hope this goes to the big screen at some point because that's how much I enjoyed Mae and Andrew.

Many thanks to NetGalley, Gallery Books, and the writing team Christina Lauren for gifting me a digital ARC of their latest book - as always, such a warmhearted, feel good romance book - 4.5 stars! I was in a bit of a holidaze myself - it's Halloween and I'm reading about a Christmastime Groundhog Day!

Mae spends every Christmas with her family and her chosen family in Park City, Utah, at a cabin owned by her parents' best friends. Even though her parents are divorced, they both still come for the holiday. Every day has a tradition and traditions cannot be broken. But everything feels broken this year for Mae - she's at a job she hates, back living at home with her mom, and her childhood crush for Andrew, the son of the cabin's owners, is stronger than ever and seems destined to remain only a fantasy. Worst of all - as the week comes to a close, the owners tell of their plans to sell the cabin. Leaving in the car with her family, Mae sends up a wish to be shown what will make her happy. Then there's a car crash and the Groundhog's Day loop begins. Will Mae be able to fix things?

I loved these characters, their family traditions, the setting and the romance! Christina Lauren delivers another winning read no matter what the season!

❝It never occurred to me that you might be mine.❞

If you had the chance to travel back in time and change the outcome of your future, would you?

In this hilarious story filled with heartwarming and swoon-worthy moments, Christina Lauren throw Maelyn Jones into a continuous time loop, where her words and actions determine not only her future but the future of those around her.

This was such a fun story. From the amazing characters to the situations Maelyn puts herself and her family through, I was either gasping for air from laughing or gasping with dread.

I'm not typically a fan of holiday reads, because they tend to be too 'sweet' and 'hallmark-y' for me. Which is why I loved this story so much; it went against that formula, yet still delivered on the importance of love and family.

I kind of want to cry right now. I’m so sad that I finished this book. Y’all 2020 has been a year and even books haven’t been a great escape for me for the past 8 months but finally, finally I got those butterflies in my stomach from a story again. It’s been so long!!

This story gave me major “Love at the Christmas Table” vibes (Lifetime Christmas movie. Look it up!!) and since that’s one of my favorite holiday TV movies, I am all in on this book!

If you’ll excuse me, I think I’m gonna go reread it real quick.

I apologize, I am unable to provide feedback on this book because, despite repeated attempts to work with Netgalley to fix it, they are unable to successfully send a book to my kindle.

Mae Jones always spends Christmas with her (divorced) parents with their family friends in a cabin in Utah. Her best friend is Theo while she secretly pines for his brother Andrew, who sees her as a little sister.

After a drunken kiss with one of the brothers, Mae’s life is thrown into a tailspin – and a Groundhog Day scenario where she keeps reliving the trip until she can figure out exactly what the universe is trying to get her to do to make things right.

This was pretty hilarious. Each restart produces a different set of problems for Mae but she does her best to heal her friendship with Theo, get the man of her dreams and save the cabin and figure out what to do with her life.

The whole cast was great, the setting was fun and Chistmasy with a touch of magic.

My one teeny-tiny complaint would be that I didn’t think one character was given enough depth and it weakened the story a bit but otherwise it was absolutely delightful and fun!

I always give stories that can make me both laugh out loud and cry 5 stars and this one was just that. I loved it. There were several parts that were down right hilarious and parts that were so heartful and moving that I couldn't help but cry. This book would make a fantastic hallmark movie! The first part of the book is a bit awkward and felt a tiny bit forced but the story quickly delves into a lovely heartful holiday story that you can't help but love. Add this one to your holiday reading list, you won't be dissapointed!

Maelyn Jones has just spent what will be the last Christmas with her family and friends at the cabin in Utah where they have been spending Christmases for years. But Rick and Lisa have dropped a bombshell that they are selling the cabin and everything is up in the air. As her family is driving away, Mae is questioning everything about her life and future. She asks the universe to show her what will make her happy and then they are broadsided by a truck and Mae wakes up on the plane heading to Utah to start the Christmas vacation.

With Benny, a family friend who knows all of her secrets, as her only ally during the resets, will Mae be able to set her life on the right course to find happiness?

I found this book to be a very charming take on Groundhog Day with resets when Mae seems to be off track with seeing her happiness. The interactions between the characters came off as very authentic and the banter was sweet and witty. I loved reading about the schedule they have with different activities each day. And it was nice seeing Mae's realization to be more of a grown up throughout the experience.

The only thing that I would have liked to see more of is resets. Because that is where a lot of the humor comes in, right? When she can't remember which time line things happened in and confuses those around her with acting strange from all of the resets.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book, the characters and the writing.

Thanks to a wish, Maelyn is stuck in a time loop and needs to figure out how to act to try to get out of this mess.
At first, the story begins with one tragedy after another, with each return in time something changes inside Mae and her perception and attitudes change together.
I cheered a lot for Andrew and Mae, they are very cute together, so I was a little disappointed with the point of conflict. I confess that I preferred a story with linear time and that the main focus was on the couple building the relationship of childhood friends where the guy suddenly realizes that she was always the girl for him. I expected Andrew to be a gentleman in shining armor for Mae. He even redeems himself at the very end but I found his previous attitude quite selfish and childish.
The story has a good potential to become a fun and light Christmas movie.

This is truly a "deja vu" all over again. Mae has just spent the last Christmas at her favorite place, a cabin in Utah with her parents and two other families who have been spending the holiday together since she was a child. She is on her way home to California when there is a crash, and all goes black. When Mae regains consciousness she is once more at the cabin beginning her Christmas holiday. A most enjoyable story with great characters.

In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren was a fun and charming holiday story with a laugh out loud twist. Though for many, it may be the happiest time of the year, for Mae Jones, it’s anything but. When she wishes to find what happiness would mean for her, she never imagined that would mean relieving her holiday trip until she got it right. What follows is a story that will leave you smiling. Full of fun characters and a delightful story, this is a must-read this holiday season.

Happy reading.

The Review
The Title/Cover Draw:
Christmas AND Christina Lauren? Sign me up.
What I liked:
It was semi-unpredictable which was such a good surprise. Also there was a strong community of people, which is always a good thing for me.
What I didn’t like:
I expected more time jumping.
What kept me reading:
How would this whole thing be resolved? And the characters. See below.
The Characters:
All the characters were fun and distinct. Even though they didn’t dive totally deep into their backstory, you still knew (and loved) all of them.
The Ending:
Done pretty creatively.
Reminds me of:

Thanks to NetGalley and Gallery Books for this eARC!

A Christina Lauren take on Groundhog Day at Christmas? If that sounds appealing, know that they stuck the landing, both in the romance and in the setting of a very cozy cabin. Honestly, if Netflix has not optioned this yet, what is even the point. I would like to cast the Hemsworth brothers, Lily James, and Stanley Tucci as the wise uncle. BIG BUDGET CHRISTMAS HANGOUT, MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Why yes, it’s barely October and I’m already reading my first holiday book! And this is basically everything a Christmas book should be. It’s cute! It’s sweet! It’s got the childhood friends to lovers trope! It does toe the line between romance/women’s fiction but it still worked for me.

“I want to be happy, and I’m petrified that the path I’m on now is going to leave me bored and alone.
So I ask the universe, simply: Can you show me what will make me happy?”

At the start of the book, Mae’s drifting through her own life. Sure, she hates her job and doesn’t like living with her mom, but she’s not exactly motivated to change it either, until a late night eggnog-induced indiscretion and a bombshell announcement at the end of the vacation leave her completely devastated – and wishing that she could just figure out what would make her happy. And then, crash!, she’s suddenly back on the plane six days earlier.

The time loop aspect wasn’t as prominent as I’d hoped, and to be honest, I didn’t particularly enjoy the first few iterations of it. It’s only once Mae accepts that she’s in a time loop – that none of what she’s doing is permanent because she’ll just mess up and end up back on the plane again – that she throws caution to the wind and starts being more true to herself – and that’s when the book gets really interesting. And, huh, not only is Mae happier, but so are the people around her.

The cabin in Utah is the setting of so many happy childhood Christmases for Mae. Every year, several families – whose “grown-ups” were best friends in college – get together for a week. They have snow creature building competitions, go sledding, and do a wacky scavenger hunt. There’s tree decorating, baking, and lots of delicious food. It’s the sort of warm family Christmas I think most people dream about. Plus, she gets to see Andrew. Mae’s grown up with the two Hollis brothers, so much so that Theo and her are practically twins. But from the time she’s been thirteen, she’s had a crush on his older brother, Andrew.

“Climb aboard, Maisie.” Andrew looks up at me, and my heart does an aching nosedive. “There are adventures to be had.”

I’m a big fan of the friends-to-lovers trope for so many reasons, and this book does a brilliant job at it. Mae and Andy already have their own built-in jokes and a deep familiarity with each other, so the pace at which their relationship moves doesn’t seem unnatural. Not only is their chemistry great, but the romance is quite sweet as well. There’s a particularly cute moment where they’re both laying under the Christmas tree, staring up at the lights and chatting with each other. Andrew’s also supportive of Mae, both in the changes that she wants to make in her life and in their holiday traditions. And that leads in nicely to the theme of the book – that even traditions that we remember fondly need to change sometimes, that they can get stuck in a rut just like people can. As Mae learns to trust herself to be a good judge of her own happiness, it also helps those around her be happier, too.

My main con with the book is the dark moment. I thought Andrew overreacted and that the whole thing felt out of character for him. It’s hard to tell, though, as we only get Mae’s POV in the book, and she obviously thinks he hung the moon. It also means that, aside from the overreaction, Andrew feels a bit too perfect. I do think the big gesture (or gestures, in this case) makes up for it, but it was jarring. It’s also very much a rich White people book – who else could afford to have a cabin near Park Slope, Utah and take off for a holiday vacation every year?

Overall, this is a sweet and hilarious Christmas romance, and especially recommended for anyone who likes the friends-to-lovers trope.

Maelyn Jones is a bit frustrated with life - her job isn't what she thought it would be, she's living with her parents, and her love life is meh. Lucky for her, it's currently one of her favorite times of the year. She's spending Christmas in a cabin with her parents and their close friends and families. As the annual tradition comes to an end and reality sets back in, Mae makes a plea to whoever may be listening to show her what will make her happy. After her wish for happiness leaves her mouth, Mae finds herself in her own version of Groundhog Day, where she plays out the same days over again until she gets it right.

This is the third book I've read by Christina Lauren and it didn't disappoint. In a Holidaze has all the fun cheer you'd expect from a story about the holidays, and the romance and comedy you'd expect from Christina Lauren.

While I’d typically prefer to tackle my holiday reads once my Christmas tree is up and the weather has turned colder, I just couldn’t wait any longer for In a Holidaze. I’m glad I didn’t hold off any longer, to be honest. This book gave me all the magic I so desperately needed right now. It was a light and fun read, but it also packed a bit of an emotional punch. (At least for me.) There were tears, but that really shouldn’t surprise anyone that much because I am an emotional reader.

Friends-first romances are my jam. The relationships take time to evolve. There’s often some amount of unrequited (or, is it?!) love and loads of longing. I can’t get enough. Sure, I often want to force the characters into a closet and make them confront their feelings, but I still freaking love it. (Side note: there are some delightful closet scenes in this book, too.) I couldn’t NOT love Maelyn and Andrew. They gave me all the heart eyes, even when things weren’t smooth and that one time in the story where I legit wanted to scream. But all’s well that ends well, right?

If I had to describe In a Holidaze in three words, they would be delightful, magical and swoony. It’s the Christmasy romance novel version of what would happen if you mixed the movies Groundhog Day and The Family Stone (but without the cancer storyline). I straight-up read it in one sitting. That’s something that doesn’t happen very often anymore. 2020 has taken a toll on my reading focus, but it didn’t hinder me a bit here. I loved being able to escape into the snowy (and dreamy!) Park City setting and this wonderful, quirky family.

I received a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Favorite Quotes:

I want to capture this moment. I want to put it in a snow globe and be able to see it just like this, forever.

"You've never been for me, Maisie. I never knew you were an option."

"It never occurred to me that you might be mine."

I was really hoping to like this book more than I did. The whole “Groundhog Day” over and over storyline just got a bit too much for me. I did enjoy it on the whole but it was just average for me. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my honest review.

I was pleasantly surprised by this after a few disappointing titles from these authors. I loved that it was in Salt Lake City. The Groundhog Day trope was done very well and didn’t read as redundant.
