Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

Aspiring writer Natalie Bryers feels like life is at a standstill. She’s going nowhere, living alone at the old family home, in a dead end job, and making no progress on her writing career. She’s haunted too by the memory of the discovery of the body of a murdered teenager in a field belonging to her family. Years later, her father and brother are dead, and her mother left years ago.
Now the murderer, who was a teenager herself, has been released, and she claims that she was innocent. For some reason, Natalie thinks she might be telling the truth – something about the murder just doesn’t add up. Could hearing Chrissie’s story put those ghosts to rest? And could it kickstart Natalie’s dream of a career as a writer?
This novel has some very good moments, gripping, creepy, intriguing. Natalie is a complicated main character, uncomfortable with her own questionable motivations, selfish at times, but ultimately sad and lonely – you can’t help but hope that things get better for her.
You can’t help but feel sorry for Chrissy, either, even though she is quite hard to like.
So good, well-written characters, an interesting plot, and plenty of twists and turns. The issue for me, however, was that the ending felt very rushed. After a big build up and lots of drama, everything was just tied up very quickly, and I was left feeling a bit ‘meh’ if I’m honest.
So a good story, an entertaining read, but a bit let down by the ending.

TRIGGER WARNING ⚠️ ⚠️  ⚠️  SUICIDE. This book kept me on the edge of my seat from the first page trying to figure out what happened and who did it. I highly highly recommend this ebook. This ebook is in stores for $8.99 (USD).

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley for my honest review. This did not affect my rating,

TW: Suicide, child molestation joke (personal reasons it hit me wrong)

This book drew me in and kept me reading from the beginning. It had plenty of twists and turns and although I had an inkling of how it was going to turn out, I still kept reading. The small town scene was accurate, as a person who was born, raised, and still lives in a small town.

Definitely recommend as a quick read!

I wanted to read a different author over Easter and am glad I chose this.
A great storyline, with really good characters and a great plot - I was a little worried as I hadn't read this author before but am so glad I did and have now found a new author. This definitely kept me guessing. Definitely recommend

This was my first book by Carissa Ann Lynch, and it was a full 5 star read for me! This was unputdownable, and every page/chapter kept my interest. I had been in a book rut, and this one ended that for me. This book flashes between the past and present life of Natalie and Carissa. After witnessing the discovery of a young girls' body, Jenny, in the field of her family farm, 9-year-old Natalie's life was never the same. Neither was Carissa's, a teen at the time of the murder, who served years in jail for the crime. Now, Carissa is being let out on parole, and Natalie is bound and determined to find out Carissa's whole story, for the truth to come out about what happened to Jenny. I really enjoyed Natalie's character. She was the girl that never really went anywhere in her life, due mostly to what happened in her past, and she really didn't give a crap about what anyone thought of her. She was just very strong and independent. Carissa, also, was protrayed as a very dark, sinister teen, but later, getting to know her, I actually felt empathy for her. There were several twists in this story. I have not read a shocker in a book that made my jaw drop in quite some time, but the twist that I never expected coming certainly did that, and did it well. I would recommend this book to any of my friends who read and enjoy thrillers. It read quickly, and was just very enjoyable to read. Again, 5 stars!

One of my favorite mystery/thriller writers is Carissa Ann Lynch, she is one of those authors that every time she releases a new book - I jump on it as I know I will enjoy it. In She Lied, She Died the book starts with the main character Natalie as an 8-9-year-old girl. She notices a commotion on her family's farm - it is a local girl known as Jenny - she has been murdered and left to die. Shortly, the town will arrest with a confession - Chrissy who was a bit of a bad girl and trailer trash. She was the one, born on the wrong side of the tracks and the opposite of Chrissy. Chrissy went to prison and was branded as a child killer; it didn't matter that she was a year younger than Jenny as Chrissy was 14 years old and Jenny was 15 years old. Years later, we discover that not only Chrissy's life changed that fateful night but also her own family. We learn that Natalie's mother ran off shortly after and then her brother Jack - ten years ago killed himself and then now her dad has passed away and Natalie is alone and living at the farm. Chrissy has just been released on parole and Natalie is eager to know what happened that night as she was impacted too. Chrissy agrees to talk to Natalie as finally she can try and prove her innocence as Natalie is aiming to write a true crime novel about the incident. What will happen though when the truth is revealed and Natalie discovers her family was more involved than she originally thought and some dark secrets in her family closet are revealed? I felt for Natalie in this book especially when we learn more about the night her mother disappeared and more about her brother's suicide. This book also has a strong focus on how far parents will go to protect their children and how guilt is one of those ugly emotions that can do so much damage and eat people alive. If you are a thriller lover and have not yet read a Carissa Ann Lynch, then she is a name to add to your must-read authors list.

I enjoyed this book so much. I was hooked from the beginning. A woman who confessed to committing a murder when she was young is released from prison and returns to the small town where the crime was committed. Everyone in town wants her gone. The woman who owns the farm where the body was found years ago is a writer whose family was torn apart by the crime. The murderer is now saying she's innocent and wants her story told.
I felt this book was really fast paced and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. My one complaint is that the character names were really confusing. There were two guys who were key to the story and they were named Jack and John. Really? Could the names have been any more similar?!
Despite that one issue, I absolutely loved this book and I cannot wait to read more from this author. Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Missed mystery broken hearts sometimes too real to me to be able to put down the book. Our worse fears materialised by the clever writing that teaches a lesson in just don’t bloody do it!!!

Cariisa Ann Lynch has to be one of my favorite writers. I read and reviewed Whisper Island which was clever and intriging now her latest book She Lied She Died was again a brilliant read. Gripped from the first few pages from a young girl's body being found, a confession to murder by fourteen year old girl and to her release thirty years on. There was lots of clever twists leading to an emotional climax. The characters were all believable and I found myself being drawn in wanting more. It was hard to put down and I would recommend it. It never pays to lie!

A book that kept you guessing, I found it a little slow and not much of a plot until the last few chapters . It was a short read and I felt that the author could’ve added more to the storyline to make it that bit more interesting

This was a very riveting thriller with a stunning ending. Get ready to be lost in this book as you won’t come up for air until it is done.
Many thanks to Harper Collins UK and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

This author always creates a menacing ethos and atmospheric setting in her books with flawed and multifaceted characters who keep their secrets hidden until the end. A murder of a teenager by another rocks the town, and thirty years later, those that remember do not want her back. Natalie was a child when it happened, but now she is willing to listen to the accused murderer's explanations, but can she be trusted?

Concise and pacy this story draws the reader into a story full of lies, secrets and twists. Some are solvable, but the most devastating remains until the end. This is an addictive immersive story with relatable characters and a chilling conclusion.

I received a copy of this book from One More Chapter via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
