Baby’s First Kind Words. By Hsingping Pan. 2020. Storey Publishing (ARC eBook).

Bright and fun illustrations showcase words, concepts and actions of kindness to children. While a simple book, it may be a bit abstract for the youngest, but parents can come back to the book as their child grows. Overall a sweet book.

Kind Words, Concepts, and Actions

This is a very simple board book with one word and an illustration of it on each page. The book is meant to help introduce kind words and concepts to very young children. Hopefully, they've been hearing (and experiencing) plenty of these words already, but this is a sweet and gentle book that can encourage interactions as you're reading. You can hug and smile along with the book.

Fab little book - perfect for babies.

Loved the illustrations of the book, how they express the words through their images, allowing parents to ask their babies what are they seeing and helping them by explaining why that image represents the kind word. At least, that is how I would handle this cute reading.

21 kind words to read and repeat to your babies. This is a good book for toddlers to learn to say Hello, Thanks and Sorry among other must-know words in their early life. With colorful illustration to help them remember how to be nice to others, it is a great idea to have such a book in home library.

This book is just beautiful, bright and simple with a word on each page. It's ideal for babies and toddlers who will enjoy the bright colours. It has a simple but important message. I also liked the fact it was multicultural.

Imagine if you could give everyone in the world an infusion of kindness... what a wonderful world it would be. You never can start too early to teach and model kindness to your little ones. Daily, reinforcing acts of respect, caring and empathy will truly make them better people and valued by others around them as they grow up.

This wonderful book unveils 19 scenarios where kids carry out acts of kindness. The large words on each page are enriched by uncluttered, bright, colourful illustrations that young ones can relate to. Vocabulary building abounds as the words: welcome, hi ( accompanied by translations in Spanish, Swahili and Mandarin), please, thanks, friends, play, help, care, give, smile, sorry, and cheer ( just to name a few) are presented. These words when put into action will teach kids manners, positivity and generosity.

This book would be a lovely gift for a newborn. I highly recommend it.

"Bye-Bye! iAdiós! Kwaheri! Bài bài!"

I was kindly given an eARC of this book thanks to Storey Publishing and NetGalley in return for an honest review. The book is filled with bright, bold, colourful illustrations that are sure to catch baby's attention. We could all do with spreading more kindness in the world and what better way to start than sharing a book filled with kind words and focussed on kindness itself. There isn't much text as each page is limited to one word though there are a couple (hello and goodbye) that feature the words in 3 additional languages - such a lovely addition that encourages respect of other cultures from an early age. Whilst there are few words, they are important words. You can also discuss the pictures, drawing baby's attention to details, colours, shapes and expressions - all important for building vocabulary, developing connections and establishing a bond with your baby.
I would recommend to anyone who wants a baby book with a difference!

This was such a lovely book!

It was packed with lovely images and is definitely one that I can see being a firm favourite.

I read it with my daughter and she loved the images and we did read it more than once (literally finished and she asked for it again straight after) so it was a hit in our house!

It is 4 stars from me for this one - highly recommended!

Love love love this! So many 'baby first words' books out there but what about the words of kindness we want them to grow into adults and use?! Thank you Hsingping Pan for reminding adults and children that kind words are so important.

This is definitely a cute board book that highlights all the good things you want your child to focus on as they become more aware of the world around them. Flipping through the pages as a Mom would be encouraging as well!

Sweet, simple book with colorful illustrations perfect to share with the youngest of readers! A mixture of words are included that are useful in everyday interactions—give, play, sorry—that are easy to gloss over in normal interactions.

With everything currently going on in the world, we could all use a little extra kindness. Even from a young age, the behaviours that our children witness can leave an impression on them and influence the way they treat others. Teaching our little ones to be kind and respectful will manifest in to empathetic and caring human beings. The best way to start educating kids on being kind and compassionate is ensuring they have the vocabulary and know how. With it’s bright, bold but simplistic words and illustrations, this book is perfect for introducing kind, emotive words to our little ones vocabulary bank.

This book has 19 large words, one on each page, with colourful, engaging illustrations to match. Words like please, listen, friends, sorry, share and many others in this book, helps children learn manners, positivity and generosity.

Another lovely thing about this book is how the opening and ending have ‘hello’ and ‘goodbye’ in a few other languages.

I believe this is the perfect book for parents to read to their children. My 13 month old daughter is at the age where she is learning lots of new words and copying what we say, so this is a great and fitting book to help with her vocabulary. When I read this to her, we also add the makaton signs that correspond to the words, so this book can be used in more than one way.

This is a very sweet book and one that I will be sure to buy when it is released.

We absolutely loved this book. It was wonderful that the hello and ending had different languages. We would have loved it even more if that carried through the entire book, as we are trying to introduce other languages, to our daughter. Teaching her kind words is so important and having this to help is lovely. The illustrations and style of books are beautiful and fun. A really lovely book to get for your child!

Words presents language and actions that demonstrate affection and caring. Charming art brings the nicest words — such as “help,” “peace,” “welcome,” and “thanks” — to life for even the littlest children. This sweet board book is a joyful read that parents and their children will return to again and again.

This is a great start for kids to know about kindness and values.
