The blurb caught my attention but after that I lost my interest and didn't read this book. Maybe next time.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book was a very interesting read. I was both entertained and learned a lot. I anticipate reading future works from this author.

As someone with Bipolar Disorder I was intrigued by the description of this book and looked forward to reading it. The parts that I enjoyed most were definitely when the author told parts of his own story rather than making assumptions about others. Therefore I would have probably enjoyed it more written as an autobiography but appreciate what he said about being embarrassed to write it as a memoir. There were a number of quotes and experiences that I resonated with, and some things that I didn't agree with at all. I found It particularly interesting/strange how Twyford-Moore disliked the term 'Bipolar' but was more than happy to describe himself as having 'gone mad'. This book is part introspection of oneself living with Bipolar Disorder, part analysis of Bipolar in the media.

"I felt more fully myself - gifted with a level of self-confidence that few will ever obtain - but there is doubt that this was even ever me. If I looked back on the destruction that this self-possession caused I want to be forgiven - 'It was not me, it was the disease' - but to achieve that absolution I need to, surely, forgo everything during that made me me at the time."

This ARC was set to me from Netgalley and the publisher for an honest review

In the beginning, the Rapids talked about Jason Russell, I understand that he was publicly targeted for having a manic episode in public while naked. I just wish we didn’t have so much time on him, I didn’t care about what others were saying about him. I appreciate that the author talked about different types of manic episodes while talking about himself or others he knows about that have Bipolar Disorder 1 or 2. I love that this book was so open about the “cultural identity of manic-depression “ I learned so much reading this book from the perspective of someone who suffers for the illness, i know people that do and it was interesting to get to know how Jason deals with it himself and what came to be for manic depressive. I like that he talked a lot about celebrities and their experiences and what they wrote about relating to the mental illness they suffered. It shows the reality of the situation that everyone suffers, “The twentieth century is littered with literary figures who stumbled into some form of madness.” Perfectly describes how he writes this book. Amazingly.
Favorite Quotes : “Mania has the potential to increase sensitivity to both visual and auditory senses - there were time that even the smallest sound alone could send me into a violent rage - and so even something as boring as the Hume becomes so loud”
“The history of the psychiatrically ill has been one of a dispossession off voice.”
“Life is filled with unknowns, but not knowing quite why or how a certain medication works is somewhat terrifying - taking it, not knowing how it affects you bodily, what it’s long-term effects might be, caused unease.
“Human beings can lose their lives in libraries. They ought to be warned”

I was really excited about this book, but was sadly not able to read it because of downloading issues. For some reason, the text downloading was for a different book available on NetGalley, "Health Matters," instead of this title. I'd be happy to read it and offer a review if this issue is resolved.

I am unable to give feedback as due to downloading issues I have not been able to read this book.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this title before it’s publication and any other titles I have read. I appreciate it immensely as a way of reading such a wide variety of genres I wouldn’t normally read to allow for reviewing or recommending other readers.
