This is a good overview of Stott. I didnt know much about him before reading this book, and this has definitely given me a comprehensive understanding of him. It is a good addition to the series.

This book is an excellent overview of the life and contributions of John Stott. Chester pulls from Stott's work and provides very helpful context, not only in understanding Stott, but also in understanding the time in which he contributed to and shaped the evangelical movement. Chester's choice to structure the book according to Stott's major preaching, teaching, and theological themes is insightful and helpful, as well as instructive. There is much to learn from Stott, and Chester has presented the material in such a way that we can continue to glean wisdom from Stott's ministry. A very good book.

Chester fleshes out a great introduction to Stott with plenty of background but then it kind of ends. I was looking for more on Stott and less on stats?

As with all volumes in the “On the Christian Life” series, the writing feels rushed and dry. I love John Stott, his theology, his biography. But this presentation of him seems like a haphazard portrayal without a goal. That’s surprising, because Chester is usually a clear writer. To the editor(s) of this series, help readers bridge the gap between history/biography and practical theology using a clear purpose statement in each book.
