“Virtual Unicorn Experience” by Dana Simpson is another Phoebe and Her Unicorn collection of comics.

This time around, Phoebe learns that by complimenting her unicorn friend, Marigold Heavenly Nostril, she can actually make her float off the ground, proving that a floating unicorn is better than a normal one. Phoebe is also tried in unicorn court for being a human. Phoebe learns to live without a cell phone for a while, and has a virtual unicorn experience as promised in the title.

This collection is consistently good. I’ve enjoyed reading them all. The art and humor are consistent, and I love the addition of a glossary at the end for readers to learn new words and improve their vocabulary.

VIRTUAL UNICORN EXPERIENCE is the story of Phoebe and her unicorn, Marigold Heavenly Nostrils. The first thing I noticed about this book is that Marigold is very conceited. Perhaps that's a unicorn thing. I'm not sure it's something I'd want my daughter reading.

Beyond that, this story was good. A bit boring and all over the place but good. I was halfway through the book before there was any mention of a "virtual unicorn experience" so I'm a little confused at the rating.

I liked the illustration style and the fact that everyone around Phoebe seems to know Marigold exists. That was different.

It's always a job to fall back into the world of Phoebe and Marigold, and this installment is no exception. The snark, the silliness, the emphasis on friendship. It's all a pure delight and never fails to make me laugh and reinstate a little bit of my faith in humanity.

A modern day Calvin and Hobbes. Phoebe's best friend is Marigold Heavenly Nostrils, a unicorn she rescued from being mesmerized by her own beautiful reflection. A collection of Phoebe and Marigold’s adventures.

Not what I usually read but still a good book with a fun mix of stories. I loved that there were parts that were sassy and sarcastic. I had never read this series before and could tell it had the format of a web comic but that wasn't a bad thing, just a different way of story telling. I liked at the end we got the definitions of bigger words. Will definitely suggest this to younger readers.

My daughter is addicted to these books! I enjoy reading them with her as they bring her so much joy!!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

From my 11-year-old: I liked the book because it was funny and it made me laugh. I also liked the part where Phoebe grows a tail and uses it to pick up stuff. Also when phoebe goes to unicorn court for being human. When Marigold puts a spell on the ball so it has a mind of its own and it flys away.

My girls love the Phoebe and her Unicorn books, and this one was no exception. Geeky humor and friendship and unicorns are a winning combination-- A+ 5 stars, highly recommended.

Our characters are visiting a science museum, talent show, and there is an emergency sparkle transfusion.

I love the Phoebe and her Unicorn series so much. I look forward to every book being released and they are a huge hit in my classroom. Phoebe's sarcasm is probably one of my favorite things. For example, unicorns will float away if they get too many compliments and I absolutely love that Phoebe uses this fact to her advantage.

As a teacher, I also really enjoyed the description of standardized tests: wait long enough to forget it was even taken and then you get a number you don't understand.

Everything about the book is so much fun.

Thank you NetGalley and publishers for an ARC
All opinions are my own.

This is another great edition of Phoebe and her Unicorn. I love Phoebe and her quirkiness that is highlighted by her friendship with a unicorn. Phoebe and her unicorn discuss life inside and outside of school. The characters are great and the storytelling is entertaining. Great for upper elementary students.

Fantastic! Come for the unicorns, stay for the sarcasm. The sass is strong with this one, and I loved every bit of it. This has a great mix of Phoebe-related stories (a field trip, playing hand ball, going to unicorn court) and Marigold-focused events (for example, a play and some strips on unicorn self-esteem). I haven't loved a Phoebe and Marigold collection this much since the first couple books in the series. Phoebe and Marigold fans should NOT miss this one!

This is another great book for fans of the series. My 9 year old is absolutely in love with all of these books, and I expect that she is going to enjoy this one just as much. It has jokes that go on just long enough for a younger reader's attention span, paying off in four or five pages instead of the longer focus needed in older comics. Whether Phoebe is being watched by unicorns or the Unicorn is getting her nails polished - and therefore thinking thoughts that make her float, but just enough - the book is silly, funny, and very pink. I love it, and so will she.

It’s no secret how much I love this series. There are unicorns, magic and nerds. What’s not to love?! Although it’s technically a series for kids, this adult finds it delightful. The friendship between this unicorn and her nerd is really sweet, full of mutual admiration, laughter and a healthy dose of sarcasm.

In this collection we learn that Marigold floats when she’s complimented. As she fishes for compliments a lot I would have thought we’d already know about the floating but this is new information for both Phoebe and me.

Phoebe learns the Unicorn Investigative Agency has her under surveillance. The solution? A sparkle transfusion! Of course, this doesn’t exactly go to plan.

Phoebe finds out what life without a phone is like. Marigold attends an audition and it’s Phoebe’s job to distract her until she finds out the result. Phoebe enjoys one of life’s pleasures - falling asleep to the sound of rain.

We learn that Marigold has a magical pocket dimension, which could be the answer to all of your storage needs. Phoebe performs in a talent show and Marigold has jury duty. We discover that Marigold went through a goth phase.

My favourite chuckle was when Marigold showed us how good she looks in pink.

I enjoyed seeing a couple of different sides to Dakota. I was disappointed by the comics that included Max though. His character has so much potential but he wasn’t given a lot to do in this collection.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the opportunity to read this graphic novel.

My daughter loves the "Phoebe and her Unicorn" books and this was no exception! This was great and really enjoyable for a 34d/4th grade reader. Definitely recommend for girls who love this style of book! So cute!

This series is amazing, my son and daughter are big fans. Great for young readers. After reading the books myself, you don't miss much if you pick up a book in the middle. They are mostly 4 panel comics with self-contained jokes and gags. If you read the series in order, you definitely begin to appreciate more the characters and inside jokes.

Thanks to the publishers for sharing this one. I love all the Phoebe and her unicorn books- this one was no exception. My 11 year old loves them too. My full review appears on Weekend Notes.

It's a fun, laugh-worthy middle-grade graphic novel. Would say it's definitely worth the read if you're into this kind of graphic novel, the humor is simply Uni-que! Sorry, I just had to make a pun. :D

This series has lost the magic for me. This twelfth volume kind of felt like it was phoning it in. Sure, we have the established characters, but how many times can we see Dakota be nasty, Max be wallpaper (he had so much potential when he was first introduced!), and Marigold be vain? It's getting old.

Marigold also slipped up and used a contraction in this book (shocking!) and there was an uncomfortable passage with a glitching computer and Phoebe talking about the world needing a reset. The timing is awfully suspicous. (Look up "The Great Reset". Finding what looks an awful lot like propaganda in a children's book left a bad taste in my mouth.)

If you're a die-hard Phoebe and Marigold fan, you might enjoy this. I've loved this duo from the beginning... but I think maybe 12 books is enough.
