This was a well written thriller, good characters great twist(s) and while the writing isn’t super literary Goldberg paints a clear easy to follow picture. You can always rely on Goldberg for an enjoyable thriller, just not one you would necessarily remember a year from now.

Another great read from Lee Goldberg.

When rookie cop Eve Ronin begins investigating following the discovery of human bones, she never dreamed that the police would find themselves at the wrong end of the law.

This story held me captivated from start to finish - with murder, serial assaults, workplace politics and a twist at the end you never saw coming.

This was my first read of the Eve Ronin series, and I read this book as a standalone novel.

4 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Special thanks to Netgalley for providing me with this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

"Bone Canyon", the second book in the Eve Ronin series by Lee Goldberg, is a thrilling and engaging mystery novel that continues the journey of private detective Eve Ronin. The plot revolves around the investigation of a high-profile murder case in the Hollywood Hills, and Eve must navigate a web of deceit and danger to uncover the truth.

The plot of "Bone Canyon" is well-constructed, with a steady pace that keeps the reader engaged and invested in the story. The mystery is complex and intriguing, with plenty of twists and turns that keep the you guessing until the very end. Goldberg does a great job of building tension and creating a sense of urgency, making it impossible to put the book down.

The characters are well-developed, with Eve Ronin being the standout. She is a strong, complex, and relatable protagonist whom you can't help but root for. The supporting cast of characters are equally well-drawn, each with their own unique personalities and motivations that add depth to the story.

The writing style is fast-paced and engaging, with vivid descriptions that bring the setting and characters to life. "Bone Canyon" with its well-constructed plot, engaging characters, and excellent writing, is sure to be a hit. The continuation of Eve Ronin's journey makes it an especially satisfying read for those who have read the first book in the series, "Lost Hills".

Bone Canyon is the second installment of the Eve Ronin series. As we found in the first book, nothing stops Eve from getting what she wants! She is the youngest (and most green) homicide detective for the Los Angeles County Sherriff's Department, with plenty of drama surrounding that. She feels like she doesn't fit in and is constantly having to prove herself, but she will stop at nothing to do that and see that justice prevails.

I am still a relatively newcomer to Lee Goldberg's writing, but have not been disappointed thus far. I also love a strong-willed/minded female protagonist and Eve Ronin fits that bill to a T. She is determined to get justice, no matter the cost, and won't stop until she finishes exactly what it was she set out to finish to begin with. I even absolutely adore Eve's partner, Duncan. He is her protégé/trainer, that is trying to get in as much as he can before he retires. The only thing I will note about that is it was relatively annoying to hear as many times we we did, how many more days he had until retirement, mainly because it wasn't anytime soon. But I enjoy reading about the escapades that Eve and Duncan get themselves into...mainly that Eve gets them into!

Overall, this was a well-written police procedural story that will keep you excited with every turn of the page until the very end!

I would like to offer a HUGE THANK YOU to Lee Goldberg, Thomas & Mercer, and Netgalley for providing me with a copy of Bone Canyon, which allowed me to contribute this honest and unbiased review.

Eve Ronin, at times the most professioanl detective in the department and yet hopelessly naive with managing authority figures and her parents.

I think that thrillers are evolving and this one got left in the dust. It didn't feel like an orginal plot to me and I could have picked up another book for the same thing

This is a mystery book, and this book is the 2nd book in the Eve Ronin series. I loved the series Mr. Monk by Lee Goldberg, so I really wanted to try out another series written by Lee Goldberg. I have to say I really liked this series, and I will current to read this series. I loved the characters. The mystery part was good, and I love how Eve did not let anything to stop her from looking into what happen to the girls. I think the pacing in this book is good. This book had me not wanting to put it down, so I had to finish reading this book before going to bed. I have to say there is some hard topics covered in this book like (rape, murder, and Cops doing bad things), so please look into what topics is covered in this book before reading it if you get upset by reading hard to read topics. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Thomas & Mercer) or author (Lee Goldberg) via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review about how I feel about this book, and I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

This book has been on my to read list for a while, but now that I've read it, I loved it!

Having never read any books by the author, I will be keeping an eye out for future releases. The story uses a female detective as the protagonist, and reminds me of the Harry Bosch series by Michael Connelly, which in my opinion is a great way to write.

This starts off as a a number of bones are found on a burnt out hillside in LA, and then twists and turns to pull different elements into the narrative. I won't go into any more detail as I don't want to inadvertently reveal any detail that may give the plot away.

If you like American crime thrillers, then I would highly recommend this book for you.

I received a free ARC copy of the book from NetGalley and the publisher in return for my honest review.

Was given this doc for an honest review.

I read this book months ago but have gotten so far behind on my reviews. I really enjoyed this story as much as the first book about Eve Ronin. Here she is looking into the bones that have been discovered in a canyon after a fire that had gone through there.
What really made this story for me was that living in California we were dealing with the clean-up from those fires as I was reading this book so it made everything seem more real from the story side. You still had the people in the sheriff's department not wanting to help her because of age, being the youngest, being female, and just for what they thought was the reason why she got the job. Did not matter that she got the cases solved.
Here the author leads you to what you think is a clear-cut who did it but of course that is not the case. I was actually surprised when the real murder was reviled. This all led to another very good book with excellent characters and just an excellent story all around.

I didn't love this one as much as Lost Hills, but I did still really enjoy it. It was a fast and fun read and I had a hard time putting it down. Again, Eve Ronin, the likeable heroine, saves the day. Eve doesn't take any crap from anyone and has a great partner backing her up. We should all be so lucky. I look forward to Lee Goldberg's next book and can't wait to see what Eve and Duncan get up to next.

A swift mystery with a tough cop heroine fighting the injustice on women done by people who should protect them.

I like how tough the character bof main heroine Eve is - yet how believable her vulnerability is portrayed. I like that she is finally starting to find her way around the complicated relationship with her parents.

As for the mystery - I find the case being very relevant there is definitely a work to be done. But unfortunately I find the last twist being a bit overdone and I could be either without it or with it done in a more believable way, because the internal logic is missing for me here.

Love Lee Goldberg! Love this novel, Bone Canyon! The content of this story and the flow kept me engaged and enthralled with the storyline. The characters were dynamic and the flow made me want to read it in one sitting, however, it took me two! BRAVO!

4,5 STARS: Lee Goldberg has written a number of popular books over the years but this is my first read of one . Shame on me as this new Eve Ronin series ii a great place to start ;
Eve Ronin is a great lead character and the supporting cast is flawless and interesting as well., A great easy but explosive summer time read. Looking forward to the next book in this series. A cold-case heats up, revealing a deadly conspiracy in a twisty thriller by #1 New York Times bestselling author Lee Goldberg. A catastrophic wildfire scorches the Santa Monica mountains, exposing the charred remains of a woman who disappeared years ago
A catastrophic wildfire scorches the Santa Monica Mountains, exposing the charred remains of a woman who disappeared years ago. The investigation is assigned to Eve Ronin, the youngest homicide detective in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, a position that forces her to prove herself again and again. This time, though, she has much more to prove.
Bones don’t lie, and these have a horrific story to tell. Eve tirelessly digs into the past, unearthing dark secrets that reveal nothing about the case is as it seems. With almost no one she can trust, her relentless pursuit of justice for the forgotten dead could put Eve’s own life in peril.

*Many thanks to Lee Goldberg, Thomas & Mercer, and NetGalley for arc in exchange for my honest review.*
Quite interesting procedural series, with well-developed characters and a good mystery. I did not read Book 1 but it did not influence the pleasure of following this offering.

Eve Ronin is the youngest homicide detective in the Los Angeles County Sherrif's Department. Her partner Duncan "Donuts" Pavone is months away from retirement.
After a wild fire sears the Santa Monica Mountains, bones are revealed in the aptly named Bone Canyon. Duncan and Eve are assigned to the investigation.
Once the victim is identified as a young woman who disappeared six years ago. the search is on for how and why she was killed. The evidence leads them to local law enforcement officers.
Eve is not sure who she can trust and this twist is the case does not endear her to her colleagues.
When another set of bones are found in the same area, Eve must find out if there is a connection between them.
This was a realistic, well written, fast paced police procedural/mystery.
The story is full of great characters and Eve really stands out. She's a strong and independent female lead, who goes above and beyond to solve crimes.
Though this is second in the series, it reads well as a stand alone.
Can't wait for the next one!
Thank you Thomas & Mercer for the e-ARC via NetGalley.

Bone Canyon by Lee Goldberg
Eve Ronin #2

Homicide Detective Eve Ronin and her partner are off to check on human remains found in the back yard of someone’s house that managed to survive a horrendous forest fire. Eve has not had it easy as the youngest member of the team. Her colleagues feel she achieved her position through online fame rather than years on the job and they don’t like that. Duncan has taken her under his wing but is also focused on having an easy time in his final few months before retiring. The fact that they catch a cold case and then a few other victims are found nearby means they spend most of the book dealing with the police procedural aspects of solving cases. Will they find out what happened or not and will Eve find her spot on the team?

What I liked:
* Eve: dedicated, competent, focused, intelligent, willing to take risks, true to the badge, there for the victim, dealing with a mother that was more into her profession than her children, and a woman that might eventually have more in her life than just work.
* Duncan: a good mentor, seasoned detective, great at interrogating suspects, supportive, eager to retire, all around nice guy.
* Getting to know Eve’s family a bit better.
* The police procedural aspects and watching how Eve and Duncan followed leads.
* That Eve was not perfect and may have learned better techniques for future cases.
* That the persons responsible for the crimes in this story were found and dealt with
* There were no loose ends.
* Finding out that there were some on the police force that were supportive of Even and not all were against her.
* Knowing that there will be another book to look forward to.

What I didn’t like:
* The criminals and the impact they had on more than one person’s life.
* The coverups carried out and assumptions made by police unwilling to do their job.
* Knowing that there are corrupt wicked people out there getting away with crimes all too often.

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Yes

Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for the ARC – this is my honest review.

“Bone Canyon” by Lee Goldberg is the second book featuring Eve Ronin, investigator for the LA County Sheriff’s Department. Ronin is young, energetic, and single-minded. She is relatively new on the job yet believable and tenacious. She has much to learn and much to prove.

The Southern California setting plays an important role when a wildfire uncovers the remains of a long vanished woman, and Ronin and her partner Duncan Pavone investigate this harsh “cold case.” Ronin struggles to balance the quest for justice against the pressures of politics. The plot is fast-paced with some grit, but Goldberg manages to intersperse the tension with little bits of humor. The story is also enhanced by a narrative that engages all the senses, - the sights, the smells, and the sounds.

“Bone Canyon” is quick to read with compelling action and complex characters. The plot is deliberate, planned, and organized, yet has plenty of suspense and unusual twists. I received a review copy of “Bone Canyon” from Lee Goldberg, and Thomas & Mayer Publishing. I enjoyed the first book in the series and liked this one even better. Now, I am just waiting for the next book. I think this will be a long-running series.

Bone Canyon takes off a few months after the end of Lost Hills, book one in teh series. Since the second book builds on the first, I’d advise reading them in order. Eve has continued in the Homicide unit and still is partnered with Duncan, who reminds her at every juncture of his upcoming retirement. With that in mind, Duncan lets Eve take the lead on their case, a body that has been uncovered by recent wildfires in the Santa Monica area. The body has been there for years, but was clearly the victim of a murder. And we know that Eve is not one to give up on a case.

Another body is found in the same area, so Eve and Duncan have a couple lines of investigation. As Eve uncovers more evidence, she finds information that may put her in danger and most definitely pits her against others in the Sheriff department. I love Duncan. Eve can be a tough and rigid. She’s driven and dedicated, but Duncan not only has her back; he also reminds her that she needs to have a life, that she needs to be careful, that she needs to have friends in the department when he leaves. The interaction between the two of them is always entertaining.

We also get to see more of Eve’s family in this book. Her parents pushing their Hollywood dreams onto her was done well. I also particularly enjoyed the references to Hollywood and the Vine, a show we were first introduced to in Goldberg’s Ian Ludlow series.

Bone Canyon is really enjoyable. It’s fast-paced and has some great characters. The twist at the end was a little too convenient and quick, but I can overlook that.
