More legal thriller than the police procedural I was anticipating.
Well developed characters and an interesting plot that is decently paced. There are multiple side stories that would have made more sense to me if this wasn't the first book in this series I've read but they were well woven into the story. The ending seemed a bit rushed with some loose ends that I assume will follow into the next book.

Thank you Netgalley and Macmillan for a copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review

“ Not every book is for EVERY one, but, for every ONE, there is a book”

Synopsis
This book may be read as a stand alone or as part of Roy Grace series.

The story follows Mickey “Lucky” Starr, the head guy for LH Classics a classic car shop running as a front for drug and money laundering. Mickey is hoping to get out of the biz and set up a restaurant with his little brother who has Down’s Syndrome- but things happen, plans change.

Roy Grace is a good detective, trying to make his way up the ladder without ruffling too many feathers. A cop that plays by the rule book even when stuff doesn’t work out in his favour.

Meg is a middle age mom to Laura, her teen daughter who recently graduated. Her daughter much more precious since the loss of her husband and son in a tragic accident years ago. Meg is in between jobs and looking forward to a change, something different while her daughter travels before going to Uni, and she finds it- it the call to jury duty.

Terence Gready is an everyday lawyer. Small crimes, petty theft, the usual. He has a modest house, a modest car, loves his wife. But there is another side to Terry- one with multiple off shore bank accounts, burner phones and a secret hidden from his wife and colleagues.

A race against the clock, a court battle, multiple murders, 2 lives hanging in the balance- a choice- guilty or not guilty- that could change everything.

REVIEW
A good solid traditional “who dunnit” . I loved the character of Roy Grace- he is someone to look up to, someone who hasn’t been blinded by the horrors he’s seen. A family man who is dedicated to his work, a guy with a sense of humour. I would easily read more books about his life and adventures.

I was not a huge fan of the amount of detail during the court scenes. While important to the development of the story I admit to skimming through some parts as I found them to be a bit dry.

The character of Meg struck a chord with me (I also have a recent grad moving onto the next phase of life). A mother’s instinct to protect her child at all costs- no matter what the cost may be. The author was able to capture the inner struggle and turmoil Meg was going through, you could feel the tightness in her chest as she agonized over what to do. I truly sympathized with her and as a reader would support her choice whatever is was.

I was not a huge fan of the ending. I was left wanting more details. All of the loose strings were tied up tight and quick- like fast, within pages everything kinda just stopped. Maybe stuff was edited out, maybe its the authors way of leading you to the next book in the Roy Grace series, but it felt sudden, a contrast to the way the rest of the book flowed.

Overall, a solid 3.5/5 for me. I would recommend to people who like the classic simple murder/mystery.

I have read all the Roy Grace books and this is a tad different in that it mostly takes place in the courtroom instead of being a police procedural.. It has a great storyline filled with lots of suspense and the characters with good dialogue. There’s a number of threads that come together bringing the end to a brilliant conclusion. Roy Grace and his team are still there doing their part but the court case is the front runner. I enjoyed Find Them Dead and highly recommend the read. Thank you Peter James, I am anxiously awaiting the next one.

5 stars plus !

Roy Grace is back!!

Find Them Dead does not disappoint. Though it is a bit of departure from the regular Roy Grace novels as a lot is focused in the court room , Roy is still out doing his job investigating a murder that must be related to this high profile case.

There is jury tampering, bribery, did I say more murder, this book has it all.

Peter James always throws a curve ball your way in his novels ( my favourite series) and I did not see the ending coming at all.

I really enjoyed Find Them Dead because when Roy and his team made an appearance it was even better than before.

Thanks to Net Galley, Pan McMillan, McMillan UK for a great and entertaining read. See you soon Roy Grace !!
