This series gets better and better. Each book weaves in a wholly original version of the book used for the book club. I have said it before but Eva Gates (Vicki Delaney) is a master of the genre. It shows with this series and each time I read makes me crave a vacation to the outer banks.

A Death Long Overdue, is the seventh book in the Lighthouse Library Mysteries series by Eva Gates and the first one I read of this author, takes place at the Bodie Island Lighthouse Library, where the protagonist works as an assistant to the director and amateur sleuth of the town of Nags Head.
It is an interesting story with enough twists and turns to keep the reader's attention; well-developed characters and set in a real historic lighthouse located at the Outer Banks in North Carolina.
In conclusion, 5 stars. The author has a new fan.

It had been quite a while since I had visited Lucy and the Lighthouse Library.

Bertie is having a college reunion and the library puts out a display of librarian items from 40yrs ago. The old librarian is murdered, an old beat up book goes missing, and then there is the robbery of a very valuable necklace.

Louise Jane needs to be pushed off the top of the lighthouse.

I love this series. Lighthouses and books what more could you want! This series is an enjoyable read. The characters are like old friends and I love Charles the cat. The mystery keeps you turning the page. Another enjoyable read by Eva Gates.

The Outer Banks, a lighthouse library how can you not love this series. Once again we're drawn in to Lucy's world. This time a librarian attending a college reunion is murdered. The characters are likable, the setting divine and the storyline is well written.

This is the 7th book in the Lighthouse Library Mystery series. It was a cute and fun cozy mystery that was a nice afternoon’s read. Lucy is back, this time her former director is found murdered, which makes Lucy a suspect. She investigates to clear her name and solve the crime. I really liked the “trap” at the end of the book to catch the murderer. The lighthouse setting is well described and interesting, what a great place to have a library! 4 stars.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This is the 7th book in A Lighthouse Library Mystery series, and this is a cozy mystery series. This series is one of my favorite cozy mystery series. I really loved being back at the lighthouse library. The characters feel like really people which I love in a book. I love Connor...Who in this book try to ask Lucy a big question through out this whole book. I really feel this is a series you need to read in order. The books has a lot of story line that connects. Loved this book so much. I cannot say much about the plot because this is book 7, but this book is trying the solve what an old book as to do with a murder. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher or author via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is one of my favorite series. It only gets better the longer it goes on.

With a detailed beach setting and lots of bookishness, Gates' always crafts a well-written story with a complex mystery that's hard to figure out.

This is a great installment in the Lighthouse Library series.

This is the 7th book in the series. I have fallen in love with the characters. However, my favorite part of this series is that it is set in a lighthouse on the Outer Banks which I have visited and it is a library. As a librarian, I love this and love reading NC authors. Highly recommend!

Bertie is having a 40th class reunion for her and some of her classmates at the library, and one person a lot of them wasn’t expecting was the former head librarian and she isn’t very welcome by some.

When some of the ladies go for a walk down to the boardwalk at night only using their flashlights they end up stumbling upon the body of the former head librarian floating in the water. Lucy soon finds out that there are a few of the old classmates who wasn’t a fan of Helena. Bertie’s friends are all suspects so Lucy and her do a bit of sleuthing along with some others to see if they can figure out exactly what happened.

I like this series and it’s characters. Lucy is a fun librarian and I also like that she is seeing the mayor of the town and not a cop. Not that I don’t mind the police boyfriends but it seems to be a staple in cozies and I think it’s okay to make them friends or relatives instead of boyfriends for the main character. 🙂 I really like the secondary characters as well they can be a lot of fun.

The mystery in this one was pretty good and I didn’t figure out the killer till around the same time the MC did.

It’s not a favorite cozy series but it is one I enjoy and would recommend. 🙂

I always love visiting the Lighthouse Library. Lucy, the protagonist, lives and works in the lighthouse library, with a beautiful view of the sea and a library cat Charlie. She has such a wonderful life including a handsome boyfriend, Connor, who is also the town's Mayor. In this book, #7 in the series, Connor spends the whole book trying to propose to Lucy. Lucy has her hands full trying to help Sam find the killer of Helena Sanchez, the former director of the Lighthouse Library. It seems no one really liked Helena, she had a lot of enemies and it seems one of them killed her and left her body in the water behind the lighthouse.

This was a great mystery and the hunt for the killer was a good one with plenty of good red herrings. Louise Jane is responsible for the humour in this series and she was there with bells on. She can be quite obnoxious, but scaled it back somewhat in this book. I love all her historical talk and love of the supernatural with all her ghost stories. After several suspects got knocked off the list, Lucy, Sam and a few others put a plan together to try and solve the case. It was quite interesting, reminding me of the plans in the TV show The Mentalist. The trap worked well with an exciting showdown. I did not know who the killer was, so enjoyed the unveiling even more. I enjoy that the book doesn't just end after they arrest someone, there are questions answered regarding the murder victim, her family and the culprit. Because there are such great characters in this story, there is also closure to many of the personal storylines that were going on in this story. This was a great easy read, with an interesting setting, fun characters and a good story. I continue to enjoy this series.

This is one of my favorite current cozy mystery series. However, this is my least favorite of them so far. I didn't really connect to the plight of the victim, and couldn't really muster any kind of feelings as to who murdered them. Even the latest development of Lucy and Connor's relationship really came off lackluster and ho-hum. Even when the murderer was revealed it, I was more concerned for an innocent person who had been coerced into participating in the reveal and one who was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Hopefully the next one in the series will help this series remain on my favorite list.

The latest in the library lighthouse mystery series was a good read. I really enjoy this series, the setting the characters and the library cat. This story starts with a reunion of librarians one of whom is murdered. Lucy feels she must discover the culprit and in her investigating finds what could be a link to a multi million dollar diamond necklace theft decades earlier.

Dollycas's Thoughts

Library Director Bertie James' is hosting a reunion to celebrate the 40th anniversary of her college class at the Bodie Island Lighthouse Library. Lucy, Charlene, and Ronald have all agreed to be servers of the wonderful food Josie is providing. Louise Jane is there too but it definitely not to serve food. Lucy and Charlene have pulled together old library items for a display to represent how libraries have changed over the years.  All the attendees except one love the display. Special guest Helena Sanchez, former director of the Lighthouse Library, finds something disturbing among the artifacts.

After the event, several members of the group decide to take a walk down the boardwalk to the pier where Louise Jane starts telling one of her ghost stories. When they reach the pier there is something floating in the water. Lucy realizes it's Helena Sanchez. She and Ronald quickly jump in to try to save her but the former director is gone.

Lucy is just haunted by the death and finds herself delving deep into the investigation. Doing so puts her front and center on the killer's radar. Will she get the whole story or will her own book end several chapters before it is supposed to??

_______

Truly one of my all-time favorite cozy mystery series, it took cancer to keep me from reading and reviewing this book when it was originally released. I timed my review now to coincide with the paperback release this week.

I love the Bodie Island Lighthouse Library. It is a fantastic place that can truly only exist in our imaginations as no real lighthouse could hold all the books, treasures, rooms, offices, and Lucy’s Aerie apartment. As soon as you understand the mystery of the place you will be able to enjoy every wonderful event there to the fullest.

Ms. Gates has created wonderful characters. The librarians are truly like family and I love the way they all pitched in to make Bertie's classmates welcome. I really appreciate the way the characters continue to grow and evolve in each new story. Connor really impressed me this time. That man has the patience of a saint.

The mystery this time was especially intriguing. The victim was rude and very unlikeable from the get-go and it seems she made her share of enemies in her not so illustrious life. This means plenty of suspects for the police and Lucy to wade through. A few people were floating in my suspect pool immediately but some terrific twists eliminated every one of them. I loved Lucy's idea for revealing the real culprit and all the clues that brought the killer into clear focus. Ms. Gates sure knows how to spin a tale that keeps her readers on their toes.

A special subplot had me holding my breath a few times. When that was allowed to play out I let out a huge exhale and was grinning ear to ear.

I really enjoyed the trip back in time regarding libraries. Back in the day, the local library was one of my favorite places so I was very familiar with all the old relic artifacts that were part of the library's history.

A Death Long Overdue was such a fun read. The next book in the series, Deadly Ever After, hits shelves on May 11. The only good thing about reading and reviewing this book late is the short time I have to wait for the next installment. Stay tuned for my review next month!

Lucy and her fellow lighthouse library colleagues are helping with the opening reception for librarian Bertie's 40th college reunion. When the former director Helena is found floating in the water, the suspect list grows and grows. It appears no one particularly liked the woman. The suspect list kept me guessing until the end. My only complaint is that while Lucy is great at solving mysteries, she is completely clueless in other areas. Still I enjoy the series and look forward to see where it goes from here.

I really enjoyed this book. Well written and the mystery kept me guessing. Absolutely love the Louise Jane character, she keeps it fun. This series has been going for awhile now and it is still as good as it has always been. I enjoy trying to solve the mysteries in this series - there always seems to be a surprise that I miss. I always recommend this series to new members of my book club.

I really enjoyed this fun lighthouse library cozy mystery. And while it is book 7 in the series, I didn’t have any trouble following along. As a North Carolinian, I was particularly drawn to the setting. And the characters were a hoot! I did have a little bit of a hard time keeping track of all of the characters, but it didn’t take away from the story. It was a fun read! I’ll definitely be checking out the other books in the series.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a complimentary copy in return for my honest review
