This book ended up impressing me, but annoyed me throughout most.
The “Bro Codes” throughout were a bit exhausting and foolish, but I after thinking about it, I realize that most high schoolers do have that mentality.
I enjoyed seeing the characters learn their errors by living by the codes and appreciated their way of “fixing”.
I won’t read this again, but I’d read the author again.

I received this book from NetGalley!

Being a mood reader can be hard. I'm fairly certain I could love this book, however it wasn't grabbing my attention at the time I went to read it. For now, it is a DNF from me, but I can see loving it. A friend who's reviews I trust completely told me I would love it so I believe her. I'm mostly just not in the mood for YA at this time so it wasn't pulling me in. There is a chance I may come back to in it the future and will update my review at that time.

My new favorite thing is a book from the boy's perspective, and here we follow Nick and his "bros" when it comes to dating. The bro code(s) don't exactly make sense -- I'll get to that in a minute -- but I really liked <u>he Bro Code</u>. There were a few flaws but I looked past them because it was a fun read.

I really liked Nick's character. I couldn't tell you why. Maybe because, for the most part, he was admirable in his intentions with Carter's sister and the bro code in regard to that. It wasn't an insta-love and it wasn't a rash decision.

The bro codes in general were very . . . odd. Each one was bold before a chapter started, but then the actions of the bros were nothing related to the bro code or they completely broke the code altogether. I was thinking it'd be them following the rules of each bro code mentioned.

In the end, it was a cute and fun read that I read pretty quickly. A worthy fluffy, summer read.

Unfortunately the writing just wasn't for me and I wasn't able to finish the book after I tried for a couple of times and so this turned into a DNF for me. I just couldn't get into it and struggled and normally I try a couple of times and then I decide to DNF it. I don't DNF a lot, but I do feel like I don't want to continually have to Push myself to finish a book. Time's too precious for that haha.

If you're interested in the book, I'd still suggest to pick it up yourself, because everyone experiences a book in his/her own way of course.

Normally I don't rate a DNF, but seeing as I have to over here on NG, I'll rate it 1 star.

I was interested in this because it's written from the perspective of a teenage boy and you don't see that very often. But this was just plain bad. Incredibly cheesy, repetitive and sexist. The dialogue felt very unrealistic, with the teenage characters "talking" in a way that older people think teenagers talk. Pro tip: they don't end every sentence with 'bro'.

It was alright.. just what I expected. Fun, fresh. The romance was alright, a little cringey at times, but that's alright. I love the cover, and I liked some of the side characters.

Elizabeth Seibert has delivered a humorous and satirical book, It made me smile & laugh. I think it would be a great read for those interested in reading novels with young romance.

I did not finish this book. I don’t think it was for me. Couldn’t connect and felt flat on the story.

Great YA book. String characters and interesting storyline. I enjoyed reading the book and got invested in the lives of the various characters. Super adorable story.

DNF - I could get into this book. I didn't connect to the characters and the writing was okay but she used the word bro alot just in the first couple pages. Which is too bad because I was looking forward to reading this one.

Really sad to say this did not work out for me. I liked Eliza fine enough, but i did not feel like Nick and Eliza had chemistry at all. Plus it was thrown in so much stuff about Nick`s parents and i felt like we were supposed to feel sorry for him in a way. All the Bro-talk gave me a serious headache. It also took way too long for Eliza`s brother to get to know what was going on and then it was too quickly resolved.

The Bro Code
By: Elizabeth A. Seibert

REVIEW ☆☆☆
I always like cute young adult stories, but The Bro Code had some elements that did not appeal to me at all. First, the story was just offensive in its wording and repetitive mantra of Bros Before Hoes. Seriously? No, thank you. Second, the characters and their actions were beyond immature to the point of being cringeworthy. The overall impression I got was cheesy, sophomoric and not a book I would necessarily recommend. I was disappointed with this one.

Had to DNF.. I found it way to immature for my liking. The premise of the book sounded great but sad he writing did not do it justice.

Thanks NetGalley for the preview!

Gosh I am torn about this one-it was hard to see past all of the bro content to reach the silver lining. The sexual consent issues were totally smoothed over. That was super concerning to me, if a teen reads this and get the impression that is no big deal, total no no. Also there is a way for guys to be teens who are joky and crass without being totally inappropriate and gross. Eliza seemed to be under Nick's spell and in a book dominated by Bros I would have loved a strong female character to balance them out. I can think of more than a few quotes from the book that were hurtful and need to be reigned in. Lastly, it seemed like every character is defined and described by their height and not much else.

This book was a cute YA romance. The story follows a group of friends that follows "The Bro Code". When Nick ends up having feelings for his friend's sister, they start hanging out in secret. The premise was a good one, and I liked the idea of this book. As the book went on, however, I found it to be repetitive, with a lot moments that I can only describe as cheesy. I also really struggled with the repeated use of “bros before hoes” in a young adult book, which would likely be read by teens. Unfortunately, this book ended up being a miss for me.

I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

The Bro Code by Elizabeth A. Seibert was okay. I would not put it in my classroom as it seemed much older than my 8th grade students. I did not appreciate the bros before hoes - we are trying as a society to move beyond things like this. This definitely impacted my feelings on the book.

This book was hilarious! I loved the characters and was intrigued the whole time. I couldn’t put it down. I loved the talk about toxic masculinity in young men and think that it is such an important topic that needs to be discussed more often. Thank you to Netgalley and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Three-word description : sister, bro code, friendship
My rating : 3.25 / 5 stars

This was such a fun read for me! It is a very easy read that takes some time to get into but once you’re invested in the story, it is hard to put it down! I liked the premise of the book, it’s about boys with their bro codes and honestly I liked the many bro codes in the story, it adds some interesting chemistry between the characters! I especially love the three best friends, Austin, Carter, and Nick! They are just so realistic and it brings back all the high school memories!

They are just your average high school popular guys, sporty and trying to navigate high school and get into their dream colleges. I really relate to these novels especially now since I’m in a pre-university program trying to figure out what do I want to do in the future, so I am always on the lookout for novels like this transitioning from high school to college! I really liked Carter though, he’s probably my favourite bro? Hmm, I don’t know, I kind of think I like them all equally but Carter is so precious, protect him at all costs!

I liked the story but the pacing could be a little quicker! The front part was a little slow for my liking but I really do love the way the story turned out and how it wrapped up in the end, I thought it was so sweet and fitting! After all, bros stick to bros and I feel like that’s one of the biggest takeaways in the book! I adore their friendship and I also am swooning over the love interest, Eliza!

One thing to note, is that the book has mentions of toxic masculinity and I feel like this is so fitting for a YA book especially with how society has perceived girls and boys to be, it is so good to call out on topics like this! I also think it is awesome that the author tackles sexism in the novel, especially with the “bros before hoes” slogan, it is just not okay to presume and generalise. Also on the #metoo movement and non-consent sexual assault, I feel like giving this book a heads up trigger warning for people out there who may have been through traumatic events like this.

Overall, this is not a very original plot I guess but thinking again, this is written in 2012 on Wattpad and now getting published! I still enjoyed this book though, regardless of its typical trope that we see in quite some YA novels. Also, stick till the end to see the rewritten Bro Code, it puts a smile on my face ultimately!

TRIGGER WARNING: rape, rape culture, toxic masculinity, sexism

Ugh, I really hate it when I have to say I couldn't really get into this one.

It's a shame too since I'm such a romance and contemporary fan. Hand me a super cheesy fluffy YA and I'll be all over it with 5 star reviews flooding your Goodreads feed. Unfortunately, as much as I love YA romance, I draw the line when things get too predictable for me. When I can see something coming from the start and can already work out how it ends, a three star rating is the highest you'll be getting from me. Especially if you don't subvert my expectations with a completely original plot twist!

That's what happened in The Bro Code. I, for starters, couldn't get into it for some reason. There were pop culture references galore which I appreciated (especially when it came to Mrs Doubtfire, my favourite movie) but I couldn't get past the dialogue between the characters who said lines repetitively like "bros before hoes" which was said so many times I inwardly cringed. I just couldn't relate with the characters and I didn't really like their dialogue either. There also were mentions of things to do with rape culture, #metoo and toxic masculinity that sometimes were glazed over by the characters. The characters also seemed to be really shallow too if you couldn't tell from the aforementioned motto. At times I didn't mind the banter between Austin, Carter, Josh and Nick, but it didn't excuse their jerk-like behaviour.

With Nick, it felt super insta-lovey when he fell in love with Eliza after she returned back from a school exchange to Australia. Everything went quickly from there. Although I loved the forbidden romance trope the author interweaved in this, I couldn't appreciate it as much as I could've because of everything that happened with the other characters and the predictability of the novel.

ACTUAL RATING: 2.4 STARS
