What a great read! Very captivating! I couldn’t put it down!! It’s a great pick me up, and I can’t wait to get my hands on a finished copy

I love YA but this one wasn't for me. Right off the bat with the "bros before hoes", no thank you. I did not finish this one, which I am sad about. The description sounded like something I would really enjoy but gave me flashbacks to rude boys I was forced to endure during high school.

I wanted to like this book more than I did. The synopsis makes it sound like it is going to reach out to young adults very well. However, that was not the case at all.

From the beginning, I was not in love with it. The phrases used “Don’t hate us because you ain’t us.” Ugh, just ugh. Everything felt very forced, stiff and unbelievable.

The two “main characters” really just do not feel like MCs, there was not a lot to them. I just could not believe the story.

I will say, I love how this story touched on some trigger subjects. It is refreshing that an author is open to pushing these subjects so that teenagers can see people know what it is like. They can know they are not alone in their emotions or situations.

Maybe this book was intended for a younger audience or a different group of people. Nothing just made me remember this book.

The Bro Code was originally published on Wattpad. Its about a group of boys who have a code when going out with girls or doing everyday things. One of them is not to date your friends sister and well....that doesn't go as planned for Nick who ends up crushing on his bestfriend'd sister, Elle.

Thoughts✏: This story very much reads like a wattpad original. It was quick, and easy to get through. You were rooting for the relationship the whole time. The writing could have been better. I did like the topic of consent in this story though.

This book is generally well written, but it was personally not my favorite. It is a quick read, but at the beginning is very hard to get into it. I also feel that it talks about topics that are not good for teenagers to be reading about.

The Bro Code is a debut YA novel set in senior year high school, following the loves and lives of a group of guys, living out their teens by following 'The Bro Code'. It's cheesy and cliched and written from the POV of a 17/18 year old 'bro', so don't expect amazing prose and literary mastery, but it's also cute and endearing and very 'coming of age'. And there's a love story too, of course 🥰.

What starts off on the surface as totally misogynistic and very much school jocks and 'bros before hoes', (how much do I hate that phrase?!), actually became more of a life lesson and touched on some thought provoking (and possibly triggering) issues.

Ideal for a light-hearted easy YA read, that doesn't require too much brain power 😊.

I am floating somewhere between two and three stars for this book. I'm not quite sure which side I'm leaning more towards so let's just call this a 2.5 for now.

Now, don't get me wrong - I didn't not like this book but I didn't particularly enjoy it either. I feel weird saying this as a fellow Wattpad author, but if I had to sum up this book it would be what people describe as the typical "Wattpad book". It didn't have anything special or anything that jumped out at me. I don't feel like I will remember it either which is always a sign that a book just didn't do it for me.
I'm not sure what my major issue was but I knew from the first page I wasn't gelling with the writing. I don't know what it was about it but something felt... stiff to me and I really didn't care for Nick or Eliza as the main character either. I didn't believe in their romance and I felt like I had read their characters before. What I'm trying to say is that nothing stood off the page.
In terms of the plot, it was predictable but I can definitely see the enjoyment of it. I know back in my younger teen days I would have ravished this book. I think now, I'm just over it.

Overall, I feel like this book wasn't for me. I could see why people liked it and I do think the book tackled some difficult issues well enough but I just felt like this was a flat, unmemorable read for me.

I've been reading a lot of dark/mystery books lately and need a refreshing change of book and The Bro Code was definitely the right book for me. With likely characters and an adorable story, this one hit the spot. This was a great YA romance.

Did I read the majority of this book in under 24 hours? Yes I did.

Do not be scared that this book was written on Wattpad. For your information, there are no explicit sex scenes. There are some steamy scenes and also some dialogue about sexual assault (Trigger Warning).

Once you get past the fact that nearly every other word is an adjective and the author includes tons of random information (seriously a whole paragraph about bug repellent lights), this book is adorable. While obviously I loved the forbidden romance, this book also dived into the topics toxic masculinity and sexual assault in a very mature way. I was pleasantly surprised by that. Also it was originally written in 2012 I think, so some of the jokes are mildly cringy but I'll forgive that.

Overall, the romance was amazing. The banter was hilarious. The hard conversations about real topics did not feel forced AT ALL. The character development felt very realistic. It was fast paced. I really enjoyed it.

This one was a good story overall. It touches a lot of problematic topics and deals with them quite well but, for me, it feels like they are a bit too young for all that toxicity.
Maybe I live in another world but most of the things that happened here are supposed to be for college/university age in my opinion.
There’s a lot of sex and alcohol use, there’s a lot of the craziness of their years when everything is in balance to what’s right or wrong and their feelings are everywhere as expected.
There’s family drama and friendship drama. There’s a best friend love story as well that I wanted to see more of but somehow it felt like a secondary plot overall.

My honest opinion is that it shouldn’t be tagged as YA and teen read as it has many triggers

This was my first book by this author, It was pretty enjoyable. I would give this book a 4.5 star rating! It was a pretty Quick and easy read!

I was gearing up to give this book 2 stars because I felt as if it was misogynistic. Then I got about half way through and it kinda turned it around to show acting like that isn't what people should do. It got better and I finished it happy with the growth of the characters Austin and Carter. But I feel as if Nicks character was a little let down. He's the main character and it felt like his only role was to show the growth in the other two. It wasn't a bad book. It wasn't a great book. It was a nice average read that took less than a day. I don't wanna call it light and fluffy because of some of the content included but it's a book about high school love. Easy read, happy to read it, probably won't reread.

I loved this book, it was funny, heartfelt and warming. I totally recommend this book to any YA lovers.

I liked this book to an extend. I was debating if I was going to give this book a 2 or 3 star rating but ended up going for a 3 star rating.
This book wasn't really for me I'd say. I started off hating Nick. I could not connect with him and low-key thought he was a douche bag. (Sorry not sorry)
Then further into the story where you're supposed to have sympathy for the character I had nothing. I just didn't really care for the character in general.

When he meets his best friend's sister I was hoping for some more fun, however all I got was some sloppy dialogues in my opinion. The writing style was also not really my style.

In the end I do think this book deserves a 3 star rating however I see it more as a 2,5 star.

Romance with a message . . . treat women better. If it takes thinking of a love interest as someone's sister, then it is a start. Bros are out to get their kicks (pun intended, these are soccer players after all), and the code is shared as chapter headings as Nick and Eliza become a couple. That is no surprise as the story is a boy gets girl story, but with an extra helping of changing the conversation about how women are treated, how to know that you're being taken advantage of by a guy. Girls, respect yourself and don't settle for anyone who doesn't treat you right. So, if that's the message we take away, good story, Bro. If not, it is just another high school romance.
NOTE: Would not say a guy is 135 pounds. Descriptive details are important, but a teenage girl reading this will start to freak about her weight. Height fine. Weight, firm no.

The Bro Code is exactly what you'd expect it to be. It's tropey and cliche and predictable but sometimes you're looking for something tropey and cliche and predictable.

It's not bad, it's not good, it just is.

The Bro Code follows a group of “bros” who follow a specific set of rules about friendship and dating. Nick has never had any problem following these rules.....until he meets Carter’s sister Eliza. His friendships are super important to him, but will he ultimately choose love over the bro code? Thank you Netgalley and Smith Publicity for my copy of The Bro Code! I tried to rate this keeping in mind that it’s YA. One really special skill of YA authors is the ability to write interesting and meaningful books for young adult readers AS WELL AS adults. A truly great YA book can be enjoyed regardless of age. This is one thing that I deducted for. The author does a good job connecting to the younger readers, but I don’t think adults will necessarily enjoy it. However, I do think that young readers aged 11-14ish will enjoy this book a lot. I think the author made the subject area super relatable for this age group. I also found the book to be a smooth, easy read which I enjoyed. So, I give it 3.5 stars.
