I just love the Natalie Ward series so had high hopes for this book. I wasn’t disappointed, another brilliant instalment that kept me gripped from the beginning. Carol Wyer is a fantastic author so I highly recommend this book and series but best to read the series in order. Bring on the next one!!

Natalie is now promoted to more of a supervisory position and is called out to the murder of a young girl who is working as a prostitute. The body count goes up pretty rapidly throughout the book as the police follow their lines of enquiry. What I really enjoyed (wrong word: found distressing but was moved by) was the way the two young girls who got involved with Tommy seemed so utterly ruined by a few wrong decisions. I wouldn’t recommend reading this book late at night as it gave me a few nightmares. The motive of the murderer did seem a little random.

This 7th instalment in the Detective Natalie Ward series sees Natalie recently promoted to DCI. She has moved in permanently with Mike and her private life seems to finally be sorting itself out.
Her son is living with her now and her ex husband David seems to be much happier.
Strictly speaking Natalie should be acting in a supervisory capacity towards her new team headed up by Lucy Carmichael, who is now her DI.
However with the discovery of a young girls body in a car park she finds she can`t not be involved , she is determined her team will succeed.
Enquiries suggest the girl, Amelia, identified as a runnaway may have been manipulated by her boyfriend Tommy into prostitution., Is he also her killer ?
The next day another girl is found strangled on a park bench. She too is found to have links to Tommy.
Like Amelia it seems Katie Bray also ran away from home.
With Tommy the prime suspect the search is on to find him.
But when another young woman is found murdered the next day the case is thrown wide open. This victim is wealthy, certainly not a prostitute.
She also has the word GUILTY written across her forehead. Guity of what?
As Natalie and the team try desperately to make a connection, Tommys body turns up in the canal.
Will they be able to solve the case before the killer can strike again?
Things may have changed for Natalie but not for me, I was hooked from the first few pages as once again Ms Wyer has given us an excellent well thought out police procedural, fast flowing with the tension mounting as the case progresses.
Hope its not too long to wait to discover what happens next for Natalie on both private and professional levels.

Carol Wyer has done it again! "Somebody's daughter" is a fast police procedural you won't be able to put down.

Natalie's been promoted to DCI and Lucy is now the leader of the new crew as DI. Although with her new promotion Natalia should be taking a step back from the investigation she's still heavily involved in as she wants the team to succeed. There are some new team members but they take more of a secondary role although I'm guessing we will learn more about them in next instalments.

I liked that Natalie hast left behind all her family drama and is now happy with Mike and in a good place with her son and ex-husband. I also loved the glimpse we got into her past and can't wait to see how that evolves.

Although the investigation kept me on the edge of my seat for the most part I felt the ending was a bit anticlimatic but the social issues it arises were pretty spot on.

This is my first book of Detective Natalie Ward series and I thoroughly enjoyed it!!

The investigation takes some time to get momentum but that's good since it gives the reader a chance to get an idea of the plot and the characters involved. The case was so twisted I could not even guess which way it was going or who was the culprit. And the ending was so intense!!

I loved the fact that when I thought that the book was coming to an end, the author threw up a hint that the story isn't over yet and there's still more to come. I cant wait to know when is the next book coming!!

A really gripping read. Highly recommended to mystery lovers!!

Another great installment!! Carol Wyer can do no wrong love this series and will continue reading all her books!

Page one, right to the very last page., the twists and turns are absolutely brilliant. You can not put this book down, once you start it, you better clear the decks etc first, otherwise you will neglect things that need doing even sleep. How anyone would be able to put the book down for sleep is almost impossible. I know when I tried I put my head on the pillow despite tired and sore eyes, less than 2 minutes past before it was in my hands again and to continue reading. I wanted to know how it all ended. Yet when I got to the end I sat there trying to go back in time to read longer. It’s one of those books you just continue, and continue, and continue. To the last page then you just really want more and more and more to read. You wish you could have left some for later.. but just literally impossible to put down

I've been a fan of Carol Wyer's detective thrillers for quite some time now, and I have been following detective Natalie Ward since the very beginning back in 2018. Somebody's Daughter is already book number seven of this series, and without doubt another thrilling ride! I can always rely on this series to give me a couple of hours of solid entertainment. A little warning: technically you can read this story as a stand-alone, but you will be missing out on quite a lot of background information about the main characters and you will probably not get the full experience if you don't read the previous books first. Especially since the last two books focus on some very drastic developments in Natalie Ward's private life as well as the development of some the other recurring characters in play. Plus, if you are a fan of the genre in the first place, you will be missing out on hours of detective entertainment!

I'll be keeping this review short to avoid spoilers, but those who have had the chance to read the previous books will know what I mean when I say that life has been no picnic for Natalie Ward so far. Both book five and six had absolutely shocking developments that left me reeling, and definitely had a huge impact on Natalie's private life... Somebody's Daughter once again focuses on the developments in Natalie's private life as well as the new case. As she is now a DCI, and other known character Lucy has taken over her DI position, the balance between the characters in the team has shifted a little and we see more of Lucy than Natalie in the investigation. This gives the story a slightly different vibe, but I personally didn't mind too much as it gave the story a fresh angle too.

The writing makes it really easy to keep turning those pages, and while the pace might be a tad slower in points, things will get more intense as the investigation gets more complicated. We have multiple POVs, flashbacks and plot twists to provide us with hurdles to overcome, and the story is packed with secrets to unravel. What seems like an easy case with an easy to identify suspect soon becomes a lot more complicated... The bodies start piling up and the question is how they all connect and if the team is really on the right track. While we see less of Natalie now she is a DCI, we still get the rest of her team and she still makes her appearance throughout the case. Certain aspects of the plot made you wonder about the credibility of it all, but overall the entertainment factor won me over. Somebody's Daugher can get a bit graphic in points and includes difficult themes as grooming, abuse, rape and addiction. This is definitely not a story for those with a weak stomach!

This detective thriller series has been highly entertaining and suspenseful from the very first book, and Somebody's Daughter is already book number seven and no exception to the rule. Natalie and her team have another complicated case to solve, and the bodies are starting to pile up very quickly... Dark, twisted and highly entertaining if you enjoy a good detective thriller with a disturbing angle. If you enjoy the genre, you will most likely have a great time with this series!

Somebody's Daughter is book #7 in the Natalie Ward series by Carol Wyer. I would consider this story a stand alone as Ms Wyer gives the reader enough background throughout the story to understand previous events. I do however recommend the reader to start with book #1, The Birthday. It is such a great series as Ms Wyer makes the regular characters seem like old friends you are catching up with. Some serious changes took place in DI Natalie Ward’s life since the last book. She’s been promoted to DCI and now heads a larger, multi-professional team with some new people from other areas. She and her son Josh now live with her boyfriend Mike. His 7-year-old daughter Thea takes her time warming to her, although she does like Josh. On the night she arranged a party for the girl, she’s called to a murder scene in a multi-storey car park. A teenager is found strangled and her phone, handbag, and ID are gone. The place is also known as a hotspot for sex-workers. The girl is later identified as a runaway from Nottingham. A day later, another runaway is murdered in similar circumstances. Both girls are tied to a mysterious boyfriend ‘Tommy’ that no-one seems to know. By then, the reader knows that he is a cruel and brutal pimp that preys on teenage girls, whom he entices to run from their homes and later blackmails and forces them to work as prostitutes for him.
As a DCI, Natalie can’t be as hands-on as she’s used to and it takes time to get used to that. In this case, she’s again confronted with murdered young girls. Every time this happens, she can’t but remember her own daughter. This fuels her need to solve this case more than anything.
It’s newly-promoted DI Lucy Carmichael that heads the investigation. She’s being scrutinised and harassed by Bev Gardner, a journalist that used to be on Natalie’s back all the time. At home, she feels a growing gap between her and her partner, Bethany, since they had a baby.
DS Murray the usual partner of Lucy before she got promoted has a lot of adjusting to do. It isn’t easy for him to get orders from his former best friend and certainly doesn’t begrudge her well-earned new position but he’ll do everything he can to prove that he deserves to be promoted just as well.

The case takes centre stage of course, but there’s also a lot of attention for the home lives of the officers on the team, and not only the 3 above mentioned. That’s nice and makes the book more realistic and engaging. These are real people, not just cardboard cut-outs that come and do their lines to disappear after. Seeing that this is the 7th book in the series, I can understand that the main characters start to feel like family. For me, this is only the second one I read and I must confess that I’m starting to feel that way. They are so likeable because none of them is perfect or right at all times. It’s also interesting to see how the characters evolve and get promotions, divorces, babies, … as happens in real life. Especially promotions, you don’t see often in a police series. But it’s great to find out how everyone settles in their new roles. If you haven’t read any previous book, don’t worry, you can step right into the story.
The author gives also already a clue to what her next book may involve, with Natalie’s sister suddenly reaching out. I feel sorry for this woman as her live travels from crisis to crisis and doesn’t seem to ease down.
It’s a suspenseful story, with many twists and turns. The body count is extremely high, with a new killing every day. I didn’t guess the killer this time. But the end was plausible but also sad and tragic.

The books in this series have been issued on a frequent basis over the last couple of years and apart from a slight blip mid series they have all been very enjoyable and readable with Somebody’s Daughter definitely joining that list.

Recently promoted Ward and her new team are faced with a series of murders that may or may not be linked. As the body count increases so does the pressure to find the murderer.

The pages kept turning as the case unravelled and even if you haven’t read any of the previous books this would be an easy joining place for a new reader

Wow, are we really on book 7 of this series - and with no signs of flagging at all!
Natalie and her team really have their work cut out for them with this book. The discovery of a strangled teenage girl's body send chills up her spine. Identified as a girl who had run away a while back, who has apparently, according to sightings, been working the streets with a man. Then there's a second body, another young girl, also a runaway and the stakes get higher. What connection do the two girls have and what happened to them? Where is the man they were see with? If that wasn't bad/strange enough a wealthy woman is next to die... what in the heck is going on?
Oh what a tangled web this book turned out to be. I lost track of the number of times I was spun around by another twist or turn. We have it all in this book - secrets, lies and duplicitous behaviour - running through the expertly created and executed plot. And with characters that piqued my interest and tugged my emotions - both negative and positive - all the way through. Pacing a great and matches the action throughout with no superfluous waffle or padding. It crescendos to the end which was perfect for what had gone before, leaving me wholly satisfied.
All in all a cracking addition to an already well established series. Roll on next time. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

I was very excited to hear that another Natalie Ward book was available to review and eagerly applied to read this.

The latest book in the Natalie Ward series sees Natalie being promoted to DCI and having less input into the day to day detective work, with Lucy has been promoted to DI.

Lucy is the lead detective looking into the murder of a young prostitute. When another young girl is found dead, it transpires that they are both linked to a local drug user and pimp, Tommy. The race is on to find Tommy before he totally disappears underground. Then there are 3 more murders that look unrelated but turn out to be linked to the girls and Tommy himself may be in danger if he is not found quickly...

I won't say too much here, but the way all the murders are linked and the way this story is woven is very clever indeed.

This was yet another thrilling read. It was good to see how the dynamics in the team have changed from the promotions. What I also enjoyed reading was seeing Natalie in a more happy, settled home life with Mike, who she now lives with - however his young daughter is not as happy about this. David, her ex, has also moved on and comes across as far more likeable than in previous books in the series..

I really look forward to each Natalie Ward book and this was well worth the wait. I honestly don't know how Ms Wyer makes each book better than the last but she does!

This was my first book by Carol Wyer and it won’t be my last, it was such a good read, fast paced and an intricate web of misery and destroyed lives, a game of cat and mouse trying to piece together a puzzle that just doesn’t want to fit. Bodies are piling up quick and every avenue of policing seems to be a dead end. The storyline is great and I really liked the authors style of writing, I won’t go in to the storyline too much as that is what the blurb is for but if you like police procedurals, strong female characters and some murder along the way this is definitely a read I would recommend.

I could not put this down! I was meant to be reading something else but I couldn't wait to pick this up. Carol Wyer never disappoints with her police procedurals and I do love Natalie. She is just a fantastic character and we are still learning so much about her and seeing a different side to her in Somebody's Daughter. If you haven't met her yet you need to go back and start at the beginning, this is book 7. You definitely need to do this series in order.

This time Natalie has been promoted to DCI and Lucy is running the teams first investigation. She is under pressure to perform from all angles and this is a complicated case. The bodies are piling up, and quickly and there does not seem to be a real connection. The victims are being strangled and it is messy. Just when they think they have a handle on it another body is found, throwing a spanner in the works. At the same time Natalie is trying to manage her new life with her new partner and his daughter, and her past is coming back into her life - but does she want to let it in?

I never repeat the blurb. I do, however, love this series of police procedurals. Great characters and we have now been following their lives 'off duty' for some time. This particular series of murders, so close together just have to be related but how? Great stuff. More please.

What an intense read by Carol Wyer! Full of deceptions, sibling angst, the newest case for DCI Natalie Ward and her team was a fantastic captivating book. The book takes place a couple of months from where the last installment ended. There are many changes that have taken place, both in Natalie's personal and professional life. Still reeling from the heartbreak of her daughter's loss , she is forging ahead , learning to live again. Not only is this an incredible police procedural, it is also a book that deals with personal growth, reconciliation with the past, and learning from past mistakes.
Anxiously awaiting the next book, I can't wait to dive into Natalie's past, and explore the sister angle.

#SomebodysDaughter #NetGalley Well what can I say. I know that whenever I pick up a Carol Wyer book, whether a crime thriller or other I am in for a real treat and this book is no exception! Full of drama, and nail biting action right from the off, you just can't put the book down. Perfectly capable of being read as a stand alone but you do get more enjoyment having read others in the series to get more of an insight into the main characters. For me, personally, I would have liked Natalie to be more hands on as a DCI (more like Vera Stanhope!), the focus was more on the newly promoted DI Lucy Carmichael and at times I just wanted Natalie to just take over!! Nevertheless this does not stop me giving this another stonking 5 star review!! A little teaser at the end regarding Frances leaves me desperately waiting for the next installment!!

I want to start off by saying I absolutely adore this series! Without a doubt I love following Natalie and her team and the goings on in their private lives!

So the book begin with sisters Sophia and Katie in a physical fight over a boy called Tommy that they have both had romantic connections with.
Then it goes to Natalie who is hosting a Halloween party; she is called away due to the body of a young girl being found. Natalie and Lucy visit the deceased family where they find out she had ran away; the mothers lodger Dylan had previously seen the deceased with a local pimp; Tommy.
We then find out Tommy is now prostituting Katie out to feed his drug habit on someone else’s patch. She also is soon found dead in similar circumstances to the first girl. Is this due to Tommy stepping on another pimps toes?
It then jumps to Rachel who is awaiting the arrival of someone in a pub for a drink, when this person doesn’t turn up she leaves. Soon to become the third victim, quickly followed by fourth and fifth victims.
Whilst this is going on it occasionally flips back to the past to someone in the army, what is there connection?
Lucy, Natalie and the team seem to be just meeting dead ends until Natalie interviews someone which flips things on its head.
It all comes to a bit of a dramatic ending which I did not see coming at all. Like every other book in this series I loved it!

Already looking forward to finding out what is next in store for Natalie, Lucy and the team!
