This is a beautiful picture book to help teach children of God's love and the significance of turning to Jesus. The illustrations are very appealing and the text is simple and easy to understand.

This is a sweet book to get children interested in Jesus—and seeing him as a book character instead of the many options of other “characters.” The story is easy for all to follow and the images are good throughout. My daughter is 8 and we still love reading picture books together. She enjoyed this in the digital form!

Sweetly illustrated, straight from the Bible. Such a lovely little book to introduce young children to one of Jesus's parables. If I had littles in my life, I'd definitely buy it for them.

I gratefully received a free digital copy of this book through NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest and voluntary opinion.

This book is an awesome book for kids and adults with a great message. The book is beautifully written and illustrated. I love how the book shows how far Jesus would go to rescue you and find you. It also includes a note to parents at the end that would be good for discussion in a class setting or a family devotion.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this book!

Using Luke's account on the parable of the Lost Sheep (NIV text), Stories Jesus Told: Looking for the Lost Sheep by Tim Ladwig, wonderfully retells this passage.

The book, my means of its beautiful illustrations, gives life to the Parable of the Lost Sheep and allows both parents and children to be immersed on God's love for the lost. I even appreciate the few pictures that went a little bit out of what the text actually says to point out what the Good Shepherd would do for His sheep, protecting them from the evil one (the wolf in the pictures).

I highly recommend this book to anyone and I would gladly sell it in my store and even buy it for my sons.

What a beautiful picture book of the Biblical parable of The Lost Sheep. The illustrations are so detailed, and truly set the scene... And also makes the story FUN to read! Told in simple words, this story can be enjoyed by even your littlest ones.

I definitely recommend this book to parents and teachers. It's a book that earns its keep.

A great bedtime story filled with the sweet reminder of Gods love for us. Filled with beautiful illustrations and an easy to read translation for all ages of The Parable of the Lost Sheep from Luke 15:1-7. Great as an addition to any childs home library.

If you are looking for a beautifully illustrated story that mirrors God’s Word and enriches your child’s understanding of it, then you will enjoy Stories Jesus Told: Looking for the Lost Sheep. Award-winning illustrator, Tim Ladwig, has created a book full of colorful illustrations that kept my 7-year-old son engaged as it depicted the Bible story from Luke 15:1-7, the Parable of the Lost Sheep. The illustrations take care to depict the characters with a believable ethnicity and the emotions expressed on the characters’ faces are very impressive.

My son could read the book, but also enjoyed having Mom reading it to him. Young children of all ages would enjoy this book. When I read it, he could take the time to notice details such as the kindness expressed in Jesus’s face. My son could quickly recall the story from when he had heard it in the past and that furthered excellent discussion about what it means to be loved so much that Jesus would leave the ninety-nine to save one.

The book also has a letter from the Our Daily Bread for Kids team with helpful questions to facilitate your child’s understanding of the parable. Whether your child has never heard the story of the lost sheep or has heard it a hundred times, they will enjoy this book!

I received an ARC from Our Daily Bread Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

This was a delight to read. Pictures and words help tell the story of The Lost Sheep ti young readers. There is an application page to help connect the passage to your children.

A short read, but it has beautiful illustrations. And it helps to communicate an important message to children about the importance of outreach.

This book was very well illustrated. However, I found the lack of words on the pages to lack some of the information need by children to actually follow along. The story being told is a great one and will still definitely be reading it to my Sunday school classes.

I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley for my honest review.

A thoughtfully illustrated portrayal of Jesus telling the parable of the lost sheep. Without adding too many words or any commentary, this book shows how Jesus goes after the lost. The illustrations speak louder than the words on the page to tell the story.

Stories Jesus Told: Looking for the Lost Sheep by Tim Ladwig

5 stars

This illustrated children’s book tells the story of the parable of the lost sheep. This is abeautifull story about how God is like a shepherd and we are His sheep. When a sheep wanders away and is in danger, God (like the shepherd) will leave the ninety-nine to rescue the one sheep and bring it back to the safety of a green pasture. This parable is so important and impactful. It is one of my personal favorite parables, so seeing it illustrated was a beautiful and tear-jerking experience. I think this a fantastic resource for parents or Sunday school teachers to use with younger children. This is a fantastic little book that I highly recommend.

Cover Thoughts: I love the illustrations, but I wish the skin tone was darker. Many of the characters had darker skin tones, so I think marketing the book more accurately would be more appropriate.

Thank you, Netgalley and Our Daily Bread Publishing, for providing me with a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Wow! What a fantastic book! My daughters were riveted! But my wife, the artist, was the one who was really impressed. We were cheering for the man as he heroically looked for his lost sheep! Excellent illustrations and storytelling. We are buying it!

Book Review—Looking for the Lost Sheep

Looking for the Lost Sheep
illustrated by Tim Ludwig, text from Luke 15:1-7 (NIV)
published by Our Daily Bread for Kids (August 2020)
hardcover picture book, 32 pages, 9 x 9.2 inches

The religious leaders of Jesus’ day thought ordinary “sinners” were beneath them and definitely not worth caring about. Ah, but God loves every single one, and so Jesus told the story we know as the parable of the lost sheep.

In this book, warm illustrations unfold most of the story, letting the text from the New International Version of the Bible lead the way. Some illustrations have no text at all but amplify the words that have come just before.

I especially like the illustrations of the snarling wolf about to pounce on the defenseless little lamb, and those of the shepherd fighting it off and chasing the wolf away. All are memorable images representing how Jesus rescues us.

Children will identify with the shepherd’s desire to find the one lost sheep, his intense search, and his joy when the sheep is found and safely back where it belongs—a good foundation for learning to understand God’s love for them. A parent letter at the back of the book provides several good questions for discussing the parable with children.

This was an adorable little (mostly picture) book! It had a very good story in it, one I think kids would enjoy very much!
It told the story of the lost sheep, a story I've always loved. I always loved the moral behind it.
The pictures were absolutely beautiful! They went wonderfully with the story! The illustrator did a marvelous job blending the pictures with the story!
I hope the author writes more of these in the future! We need more children's books like this.

Anyone out there who has children - I would highly recommend this book for those who enjoys beautiful Bible stories!

The illustrations were beautiful providing excellent imagery. The verbiage used aligns with more mature readers. Using a lot of vocabulary that would prove a bit difficult to explain to my 5 year old. The discussion at the end, however, is excellent and gives relatable reflection points.

This book quotes a verse from the Bible which tells of redemption and forgiveness.
There isn't much text to read but the illustrations are beautiful and tell the story within each page of illustrations.

This is a great book for a Sunday school or for children to have as a class story in school where they can discuss what is happening with others.
