I really can't say how much I love this author's books, I am like an over-excited kid in a sweet store whenever I get my grabby hands on another of her books, but do you blame me when each one is a masterpiece of sexy and dramatic romance writing and this one is no different.

This is the seventh book n the fabulous Victorian Rebels series and this series just keeps getting better and better, Carlton and Pru absolutely stole my breath away with every page and I was addicted to their story, I couldn't get enough of it. Their journey to happily ever after isn't easy but it's worth every step of the way.

Sexually charged, richly described, gorgeous story and mesmerizing characters a winner in every way!!

I loved The Highwayman and I was really excited to see some of the characters from that book become leads in this one. I tried to jump from The Highwayman to A Dark and Stormy Knight and didn't feel connected to the plot. I think I will try again after reading the series in order as intended. DNF for now.

One of the things that keeps me coming back to this series is the fact that they’re not your standard fluffy and cute historical romance. The Victorian Rebels series has darker undertones to the stories and the characters, and that’s one of my favorite things about them! A DARK AND STORMY KNIGHT had a darker start but somehow it went to a bit of a sweeter side, even if we are looking for a killer most of the time. I can’t say I’m mad at it because the story was unputdownable anyway.

I’ve been wanting to read a book about Chief Inspector Morley since we met him in book 1, THE HIGHWAYMAN. And the opening of this book made me a bit swoony about him. I love a good strong hero who is also reserved, inflexible and straight-laced. It makes it all the more satisfying when we get to see underneath that façade. I loved getting to see so many different layers to his character, from his tragic childhood and how he had to raise from it. His society standing and his career. And the masked knight. All that and even more the passionate man with a single-minded focus on keeping his woman safe.

Our heroine wasn’t quite the star of the show like Morley was but I certainly liked her character and after getting to know him more, it was clear she was the perfect heroine for him. I loved their chemistry and strength together.

A DARK AND STORMY KNIGHT gave me everything I didn’t know I wanted from this series. It’s sensual and seductive, but also strong and dare I say a lot of fun!

I am so glad that Kerrigan continued with this series AND created a way to stay in the Victorian Rebels world just a little while longer. I loved getting Morley and Pru's story. The little bit of mystery, the new characters overlapping with our current friends and the steam of their romance is just the best.

After reading this novel, I really want to go back and read the Victorian Rebels series. If you love mistaken identity and a complicated relationship, then this book is for you.

A dark and stormy knight is the 7th book in the Victorian Rebels, and also the first book in the Goode Girls series. For some reason, I am not a big fan of the series (the Victorian Rebels), but I didn’t dislike this book as much as I did with the others. Still, it was not my favorite book of the week. Some parts of it were unbelievable. The hero is a sketchy character and I can’t say that I ever warmed up to him. Our heroine is way more likable and she was one of the things that kept me reading. Overall, the book was good(-ish) and I would suggest you to give it a try.

Kerrigan Byrne is an automatic read for me. I really enjoy her writing and her plots are always original. I read her work with The Highwayman and have been hooked ever since. Her anti-hero is always a fun read and her heroines can always hold her own.

I love all things Kerrigan Byrne and can't wait for whatever she decides to write next.

Thank you so, so much for sharing an early copy of this title!

I've been waiting so long for Carlton's book!! (Did anyone else think he's reminiscent of Batman? A tormented justice vigilante that stalks by night?) If their initial meeting (and, let's be honest, the entire plot) seemed farfetched, well, that's exactly what I signed up for, and the author delivered. I didn't love it as much as the earlier books in this series, but it has the trademarks of a classic Kerrigan Byrne: tortured hero, strong heroines, complex plot, and lots of heat. Keep 'em coming!

This maybe my favorite series.
A boy from the streets of Whitechapel grows up to be Chief Inspector Carlton Morley. A man of principle with little trust, he's secretly known as the Knight of Shadows. A chance encounter late one night with Prudence Goode at Miss Henrietta's school for Cultured Young Ladies, sets off a series of events that lead to Prudence accused of murder. A gripping who done it romance with a young lady in love with the man who has sworn to protect her, even if he doesn't trust her. Put this Knight on my list of swoon-worthy heros.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a free copy of this book.

I wanted Morley’s story for what feels like forever! I was not disappointed. I love how it started, I felt he and Pru had chemistry right off the bat. I honestly wasn’t ready for their story to be done.

I read this book ages ago. I've read a lot of different books and different authors since. I've never been able to forget this one. It had in-depth three dimensional characters, a storyline with humor and tragedy both. It was well-written and an altogether superb romance

Sir Carlton Morley is a Chief Inspector for Scotland Yard but also stalks London by night as the Knight of Shadows-performing a sort of vigilante justice. He comes from a dark past and has risen through the army and the police to earn this title. He's a complex and layered character. Into his virtual and literal lap lands Prudence Goode-a sweet, spritely and curious woman who is looking to find true passion with another before her wedding to someone that she's found out is a serial philanderer. The two share a night of passion and then don't meet again for 3 months on Prudence's disastrous wedding day. It takes them a long while to learn to understand and trust one another against the backdrop of Victorian England. Really loved the story, the historical backdrop and the cast of characters. This book is the 7th in a series of which I read none of the others. The other h/H's show up in this story but this can be read as a standalone. I will definitely be checking out other books by this author.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in return for my honest, albeit late, review.

Sir Carlton Morley, Chief Inspector has worked his way up from gutter snipe to a respected professional. In his alter ego, he searches the night for clues, as a vigilante, the Knight of Shadows. In this role he meets Lady Prudence Goode, who is looking for passion before she marries a known womanizer. Even though they share their bodies, they don't share names. several months later they meet again and things spin our of their control. Carlton is to be admired for how he brought himself up from poverty. However, he tends to be wishy washy where Pru is concerned. One minutes he berates her, the next begging her forgive him never really giving her the reasons behind until later in the story. It is a good thing that she has made friends among his friends and their wives. The story line like the majority of this author's tales is fast paced with many twists and turns, often very unique. My only complaint like with other of her books, she relays too much on foul language. It just is not necessary and does not add to the story. In fact for me it is very distracting since that language is not part of my normal vocabulary. So much so that although she has greatbstorylines, I bmay not continue to read further offerings from her.

I absolutely devoured this book - which should be of no surprise since I've adored just about everything I've ever read by the author thus far. It was nice to finally get Carlton's story, especially since we met him in book 1 of the series, and I'm happy to say that the wait was worth it! I also really loved all the cameos from the other couples in series. I really enjoyed Prudence as well - she had just the right amount of backbone to advocate for herself and to speak up when necessary. It made her wonderful counterpart for Carlton who is remarkably (but understandably) sensitive. Watching their relationship develop was an absolute delight. 5 out of 5 wine glasses.

4.5 stars. I kinda skipped from book 1 The Highwayman (loved it) to this one (new and shiny) !
I will go back to read the others. A few characters from previous book make brief appearances in ths book.
This is mainly Prudence and Carlton's story (at least 90% of the time).
I read and listened. I just can't resist listening to Derek Perkins. He reads Ms Byrne's words so well.
This is 3rd person POV. I think that all of KB's books are 3rd person.
The prologue is SO INTENSE. oh my. I usually pay close attention to them, but in this case, I'd advise to really focus. I will probably go back and reread it.
Prudence and Carlton's chemistry flames up, simmers, then burns. This is one hot couple.
I didn't like Carlton in The Highwayman-he wasn't really a villain, but he was a 19th century jerk.
In this book, Carlton's a much more sympathetic character, There is a reason for his jerkish behavior. A LOT of reasons for his outward jerkish behavior.
I really love Prudence's feisty attitude. She's soft spoken, but such a strong willed young woman.
Early in the book, she makes an impulsive decision that changes the course of her like.
I have to go back to the narrator, Derek Perkins. He does all of the voices really well. He does diffe female voices without sounding like he's joking around. The voice of one male character had me shivering with fear. I had to check if there was more than one narrator on the book.
The mystery/suspense took a back seat to the romance (I'm happy about that). The bad guy was exposed at the exact right time. I wanted the epilogue further into the future. I'll just have to read the next book in this series!

From book one, The Highwayman in the Victorian Rebels series I was absolutely hooked on Kerrigan Byrne! Ms. Byrne pulls absolutely no punches when laying out the dark and often violent backstories of her characters which always makes their ultimate salvation in the arms of a soul mate immensely satisfying.

From his first appearance in The Highwayman, Chief Justice of Scotland Yard, Sir Carlton Morley has played an intricate role in the Rebels stories, wavering between adversary and ally, but always compelling. So, from the second I read the synopsis for A Dark and Stormy Knight several months ago I have been waiting with breathless anticipation to get my greedy little hands on a copy. The wait was completely worth it!

With a lifetime of dealing with the scum of the earth, Morley has some serious trust issues in both his work and personal life. When a clandestine meeting with a stranger rocks his world completely, he never expects to meet the woman who so captivated him again, at a crime scene where she is the primary suspect in a murder.

Prudence Goode simply wished for one night with a stranger after being betrayed by her betrothed and all those she cared about the most. She never dreamed that three months later she would be married to the dark stranger who fulfilled that wish, in order to avoid the gallows for a murder she did not commit.

The story of how they overcome the strong prejudices formed by Morley’s past, an evil plot to frame Prudence for murder and an uncertain future to finally embrace the hope of a happily ever after, is enthralling from beginning to end.

Although this book could be read as a stand-alone work, I cannot recommend it highly enough that readers check out the entire series. I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Melt-your-Kindle hot and a great romantic story. Loved this one!

Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for my ARC. All opinions are my own.

3.5 stars!

This was a good installment to the Victorian Rebels series, but not great if I’m being honest. I was glad to finally read Morley’s story, but the romance between him and Prudence was just fine. The best part of the book was probably their first sex scene at the beginning of the book (she mistakes him for a male prostitute and it’s 🔥🔥🔥), but then after that the smut was a bit repetitive. The overall plot was just fine as well.
