I love Ms. Byrne but this book bored the ever loving day lights out of me. I'm really sorry but this ended up being a DNF after going back to it a few times. I didn't make it past 20%. Historical is not my fave genre to read but Ms. Byrne is usually the exception.

Thank you for the opportunity to review. Sorry I can't post a positive one.

Boy does Kerrigan know how to pack a powerful punch in her prologues!! But we needed to see what motivated Morley to become the man he was today.

I’ve been anxiously waiting for his story since we first met him. He’s been there from the beginning and I wanted him to find his HEA. Morley has lived his life without attachments. Anyone could be used against him so he stayed away from them, but one chance meeting flipped his life upside down.

Prudence has been told what she must do all her life, as women of those times were. But she decided to take one night and choose her own fate. Too bad, fate has a way of messing around with people. Little did she know how much her life would change.

Morley and Pru had an instant attraction. From that fateful day they were destined for each other. I loved watching him fight it because he thought that would be best but the heart wants what the heart wants.

This story had so many swoony moments, I was in heaven. I am extremely happy that after helping others find love, it was Morley’s turn and he found his.

While this could be read as a standalone, it’s better enjoyed if you read the full series. These Victorian Rebels are one of the my favorite historical romance series ever! Filled with anti heroes that you can’t help but fall in love with.

I’m not terribly sure what to make of this book. The ground work for the character of Cutter/Carlton is quite good but I didn’t think that the Cutter part was dealt with. I loved Prudence’s character - she seemed fun and a jolly kind of character.... one that would be fun to know.

Finally Chief Inspector Morley's story! And it did not disappoint. A shocking decision made by both Pru and Morley. Mistaken identity. A super hot encounter in the night. SO GOOD. The consequences from this one night are a domino effect that have emotions tumbling all over. A Dark and Stormy Knight indeed!

This is a full length historical romance with a HEA. This is book seven in the series and can stand alone, but will be more enjoyable after reading the others. Carlton (Cutter) Morley is the Chief Inspector at Scotland Yard and a firm believer in justice. Which is why he is also the masked "Knight of Shadows", righting wrongs the law cannot. He is all work and no play until his inadvertent encounter with Lady Prudence Goode. Pru is about to marry a rake of an Earl and wishes just once to experience her own needs met on her terms. Fast forward three months, she is kneeling over the dead body of her fiance with a bloody knife in her hand; and they are in the church office about to walk down the aisle! Carlton investigates the murder, and his cops distributing cocaine! Many twists, drama, and excitement await the reader!
I have read the entire series and I admit this is not the best one. The author is so good at character development and complex plots and enough intrigue to keep you on the edge of your seat! So this is what you expect every time. Pru is less intriguing than the other heroines, the plot is interesting, but not as complex as usual. If I hadn't read the others would I know Carlton as well? I would still recommend the book as the author is very skilled in telling a story! I received an ARC from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 Stars

Nobody pens incendiary passion better than best-selling author Kerrigan Byrne and she is back with a spellbinding and enthralling historical romance that continues to cement her standing as one of the genre’s most gifted writers.

Sir Carlton Morley appears to be a model of respectability. As Scotland Yard’s ruthless Chief Inspector, he is known for his strength, his focus, his dedication to the job and his meticulous attention to detail that had made him a pillar of the community who is feared and admired in equal measure. However, Carlton wasn’t always a model citizen. He has many a dark secret buried deep within his heart for in the past the former decorated soldier was somebody else. In the past, Carlton used his skills and talents to steal, plunder and murder – until tragedy had struck and he had been forced to change his ways. A man looking for redemption and retribution, Carlton had vowed to stay away from temptation and to put his heart firmly under lock and key – until a chance encounter with Prudence Goode changes his life forever…

Prudence has long resigned herself to the fact that a life of drudgery awaits her. Prim and proper Prudence, however, longs for just one single night of passion before she has to succumb to the rotten hand which fate has dealt her and one night, when she accidentally stumbles upon a handsome and brooding Carlton, it looks like she has found what her heart has long yearned for. However, when Carlton and Prudence come together, it becomes clear that one night will simply not be enough…

Weakness is not part of Carlton Morley’s vocabulary. However, the woman who had effortlessly shattered all the defences he has built around his heart soon becomes the one thing he finds himself unable and unwilling to resist. But Carlton is a man with many enemies who are plotting his downfall who would use anything at their disposal to bring him down – including the woman who has come to mean the world to him: Prudence Goode..

A beguiling and seductive historical romance from one of the genre’s brightest stars, A Dark and Stormy Knight is classic Kerrigan Byrne. As always, her writing sizzles with red-hot sensuality, searing emotion and captivating drama and will have readers on the edge of their seats completely and utterly consumed by this captivating tale of passion, desire and redemption.

A beautifully written historical romance readers will not be able to put down, A Dark and Stormy Knight is another winner by Kerrigan Byrne.

FINAL DECISION: A great payoff for those who have followed the Victorian Rebels series from the beginning. Loved, loved the dark and tormented Carlton with his hidden past and Pru who is going to take something for herself before being forced into marriage.

THE STORY: Sir Carlton Morley lives a double life. The stiff-lipped respected Chief Investigator of Scotland Yard is also the vigilante by night who assures that justice is done. His night investigations take him to a pleasure garden where he encounters Prudence Goode who has come to take her pleasure before being married off to a man who has betrayed her.

OPINION: I have been waiting for this book since the first in the series. It was always clear that there were depths to Carlton's characters. The upright investigator is haunted by his past and the lack of justice he can see in his job. I loved how it is clear that he is beloved by his men who see his thirst for justice and doing right.

Pru is a woman who believed she had the perfect engagement until she finds out the truth. That is the beginning of Pru leaving the expectations of a woman of her time and taking her life into her own hands.

After the first encounter between Carlton and Pru, they next meet when Pru becomes a suspect that Carlton must investigate. The combination of the personal relationship with Carlton's suspicions of Pru made this book very interesting to me. I enjoyed the back and forth and difficulties these two have in finding a happy ending.

What elevates this book is the appearances of characters from the Victorian Rebels series. I loved seeing them again and having them play a role in Carlton's romance after his interference in theirs. The interaction between the men was especially humorous.

I'm glad that Carlton had his story told at last.

WORTH MENTIONING: The book introduces characters who will appear in the Byrne's next series.

CONNECTED BOOKS: A DARK AND STORMY KNIGHT is the seventh book in the Victorian Rebels series. The romance here is self-contained, but some of the best part of this story is the development of Morley's character through the series so I recommend reading from the beginning.

STAR RATING: I give this book 5 stars.

NOTE: I received an eARC of this book via Netgalley. I was not required to write a review or to write a positive review. All opinions contained herein are my own.

A night of unbridled passion becomes much more for a reformed thief and the enigmatic woman who captures his reluctant heart in Kerrigan Byrne’s latest, A DARK AND STORMY NIGHT.

Byrne delights us with another phenomenal Victorian Rebels novel brimming with emotion, suspense and romance. This time she imparts the story of Sir Carlton Morley—the mercilessly just and principled Chief Inspector haunted by a broken past. And it’s that brokenness, the relentless pain and grief of it, which has shaped him to be a man accustomed to deception. A man who while decorated and revered by day, is vigilante by night, hiding in shadows in search of redemption.

One late night, Prudence Goode stumbles upon this Knight of Shadows, intent to seize control of her life before she’s forced to marry her two-timing fiancé. Both are swept away by the other, surrendering to a forbidden desire under the cast of darkness.

Circumstance brings them together again in the worst possible way, however, and Carlton is convinced he’s been deceived once more, despite unbidden, intensifying feelings for Lady Goode.

As danger looms and feelings deepen, Carlton and Pru must work through old scars, secrets and insecurities to build a future together.

Sensuous, suspenseful and deliciously scandalous, this is a story rife with all the things we’ve come to love from a Kerrigan Byrne novel, especially the Victorian Rebels. I love the raw and roguish men and the women who undo them. Love learning about the adversity they’ve overcome, seeing them build up the courage to be vulnerable, and ultimately creating a new life for themselves and those they love.

This is an exceptional, deeply satisfying romance that shouldn’t be missed.

So the idiot that I am didn't realize this was book seven in a series. A series that I planned on reading! Despite the spoilers I gave myself, I loved this book and I am even more excited for the rest of the series.

Prudance and Carlton were so swoony. I loved them so much!

The writing was so good. It was a fast read and I absolutely loved the story. I did not see that ending coming at all!

Even though at this point I only read one book in the series, I highly recommend the series. Just don't be like me and accidentally start at book 7!

I will read anything Kerrigan Byrne puts out and I was super excited to finally get Morley's book. I devoured this. It is typical Byrne, so it's a bit on the darker romance side but it is oh so good. Well worth the wait and I cannot say enough good things about this series. If you like angst filled romance and a Victorian setting, you cannot go wrong with this book or series. This was a finish in a day book for me, which is something I am rarely able to do but I could not put this down. Five stars!

I have voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this title given to me through NetGalley. This book was just absolutely wonderful. It was just so easy to get lost in and I just couldn’t put it down. I just lost myself within this amazing story. I most definitely will read more by this author.

A Dark and Stormy Knight is the seventh book in the Victorian Rebels series by Kerrigan Byrne. You can easily read it as a standalone but if you haven't read any of the other books I am sure you will want to after you read this one. I know I do!

This story has it all, drama, romance, mystery, passion, and plenty of reason to run the gamut of emotions while reading it.

Sir Carlton Morley worked his way from the slums with no papers to his name right up to his knighthood and being the Chief Inspector for Scotland Yard. He enjoys his job and he is good at it. BUT he hates that being a police officer means that sometimes when the bad guys have a good enough solicitor or an alibi that is obviously fake but can't be proven to be, the criminals get away and he can do nothing about it. Not as a policeman. His alter ego comes in then. He becomes a masked vigilante who parols London's streets at night and makes sure criminals are stopped in their tracks. It is during one of his night patrols that he finds himself in the gardens of London's most popular brothels catering to women.

Prudence Goode is being forced into marriage by her father to a man who only wants her for her dowery. Being the good daughter that she is Prudence knows she can't get out of the betrothal but she is determined to not let her future husband take her virginity. She wants to enjoy her first time and she knows her husband to be wouldn't even try to please her. She tells her sister how she feels and is given the advice to visit the brothel where she is sure to have a night she will never forget. She decides to act on that advice.

It is there that Prudence runs into Morley, he literally falls into her lap and she assumes that he is the escort she is supposed to be meeting. His body, his eyes, his mouth all call to her. She can't believe how much she is attracted to him even with him wearing a mask. Morley is equally shocked at his immediate lust for her and when he realises she thinks he works there he can't help but take advantage of the situation and they have the most amazing passionate coupling. So fabulous that afterwards, Prudence wants to know his name so that she can come to him again. But before she gets her answer he disappears out of the garden.

Circumstances bring them back together months later at her wedding of all places. Neither realises that Pru's father is actually Morley's boss and that he had been invited to her wedding! When Morley is called to the back room of the church by his boss he is shocked to see that Pru is there and covered in blood. Her hand holding a knife and her betrothed lying murdered by her feet. She is in such shock that she doesn't give a second look at Morley and has no idea who he is. But he recognises her and he is appalled that he hadn't been able to get her out of his mind since their night together when she was a criminal. He has to push that to the back of his mind though when his boss tells him he expects his help to keep things quiet until they could find the real killer or if Pru did it, find a way to make sure she doesn't hang.

And that readers is all I am going to tell you. You know the situation, now you have to read the book to find out just how it all plays out. You won't be disappointed. Who really killed Pru's future husband and why? Will Prudence realise who Morley is? Will Morely be able to help her, will he even believe her innocence. If he can prove she didn't commit murder is there any chance for them as a couple when he really doesn't have time for anything besides his job and his vigilante work at night. He can't give up the latter, he doesn't deserve to be happy when he feels so guilty about things that happened in the past. At least that is what he thinks.

I could go on and on about this book and give so many spoilers because I want to talk about all the fabulous things that happen. It is so difficult to be good! What I can say is that from cover to cover this book is perfect and it's one that you don't want to put down until it's finished. There really is never a dull moment but there are so many exciting ones. Don't get me started on the steamy scenes, they were amazing; such intimacy and yet so raw at times. Beautifully written scenes!

I recommend this book and can find no fault with it at all.

A Dark and Stormy Knight is the seventh book in the Victorian Rebels series by Kerrigan Byrne. Each book can stand on its own, but those that have read one (or all) of the previous books will enjoy seeing past characters make their appearance.

Sir Carlton Morley is famously possessed of extraordinary will, singular focus, and a merciless sense of justice. As a man, he secured his fortune and his preeminence as Scotland Yard’s ruthless Chief Inspector. As a decorated soldier, he was legend for his unflinching trigger finger, his precision in battle, and his imperturbable strength. But as a boy, he was someone else. A twin, a thief, and a murderer, until tragedy reshaped him. Now he stalks the night, in search of redemption and retribution, vowing to never give into temptation, as it’s just another form of weakness. Until temptation lands—quite literally—in his lap, taking the form of Prudence Goode. Prim and proper Pru is expected to live a life of drudgery, but before she succumbs to her fate, she craves just one night of desire. On the night she searches for it, she stumbles upon a man made of shadows, muscle and wrath, and decides he is the one. When their firestorm of passion burns out of control, Morley discovers, too late, that he was right. The tempting woman has become his weakness. A weakness his enemies can use against him.

A Dark and Stormy Knight is a good stand alone, and an even better continuation of the Victorian Rebels series- since I wanted more of Morley. I liked his character, and while he is flawed he is also a thoughtful and good guy. Pru is in a terrible position, and Morley's is not much better. I found their individual worries and struggles to be well done, and their journey towards a happy ending even better. The new secondary characters, and returning players were equally complex and well done. I liked the mystery aspect as well, and can honestly say that I thought someone else would be involved, but the climax and conclusion was entertaining and had me surprised and thoroughly engaged. I really enjoyed this read and finished it way too quickly.

A Dark and Stormy Knight is an entertaining historical romance, and fans of the author and genre will want to pick it up.

This is a very good read. The author dibs great job with her characters and the storyline will have you entertained for hours. Prudence over years that her fiance will not be faithful to her, so she decided to have a going of her own before she has to marry him. But on the day she is to marry him she is caught with damming evidence in her hand. Only to have the unknown gentleman she had her one night with walk in to the room as none other than the Chief of police. Carlton cannot believe his eyes seeing the one woman he had not been able to forget after their one night together and having to arrest her for murder. Prudence must prove she is innocent to the man who is the cause of her secret and Carlton will have to learn to trust her to find the truth and free the woman he has come to love.

This is a very good read. I received this book for an honest review.

This was an amazing addition to the Victorian Rebels series - and a fitting story for Morley - who we've been waiting for since that first book! A sexy and powerful hero whose heroine is in need of a knight - even if he doesn't ride a white horse, this story is so emotional (and dark just like the rest of the series) and with a great payoff at the end. Another fabulous example of how bad men ARE changed by love, but are not less dangerous! Loved it!

While this one started out strong for me, it sort of fizzled out fairly quickly. And even though it was a short read, it seemed to take me a long time to get through. It was part of a series I loved, but yet none of the characters felt the same to me. Part of this may have been the timing in which I picked this book up, and part of it may have just been it not working for me. I do love most of this author's work, so I'm hoping to bounce back with the next read.

Kerrigan Bryne always brings her A game and this book is no exception. Chief Inspector Carlton "Cutter" Morley finally gets his story in a Dark and Stormy Knight. Carlton and Prudence's story is unconventional from their first meeting. The way the end up married is very orginal. The build up to their HEA is very well written. Because their love doesn't have quite the same backstory as the Highwayman or The Duke with the Dragon Tattoo had there isn't quite the same punch to their coming together. Don't let that deter you though because their is plenty of emotional punches just not the same angst. As always I'm left wanting more. I want to read the love stories of all the characters that have yet to be paired up.
Trigger warning: violence

I just devoured all 7 books in this series in 4 days. Loved them all so much!
I knew this book was about Sir Carlton Morley so I paid extra attention to his character while reading the previous 6 books. I loved getting to know him better!
Prudence Goode was a delight. In previous books the heroine was often ones who had such hardships and tragic pasts. I loved that Carlton, who did have a tragically sad past, found someone to bring out the light in him.
Loved the suspense, action and that fountain scene.
One of my favourite scenes was when Carlton revealed what was happening to the other 3 men in his office. I laughed so hard. Hope to see them all together again.
I highly recommend reading this series in order, as there are a few secrets revealed throughout that may confuse you otherwise.

I have been a fan of Kerrigan's writing since I read the first book in the "Victorian Rebels" series, The Highwayman back in 2015. I have eagerly awaited the release of the next book in the series, and have not been disappointed! Kerrigan's stories are character-driven and what wonderful characters they are. Her storytelling is addictive. I love the bad boys that are the center of this series and the strong women that challenge and tame their men.

You can enjoy this book as a stand-alone, you do not need to have read the whole series, but if you love Historical Romance with a dark side this series is for you!
I highly recommend this book and series. 5 Stars!!
